1 Phone Numbers Phone Numbers British Telecom (BT) Service: National Codes: National codes are fixed and apply anywhere in the U.K. They are the equivalent of US area codes. These are listed in the white pages of the phone book. Some commonly used national codes are included within the guest directory. Types of Calls: There are three different types of BT calls: own exchange calls, local area calls, and national calls. If you are calling from a private line, use the following procedures: To make a call to the same exchange, dial the number only without a national code. To make a call to another exchange within your area, or a national call, dial the national code followed by the number. Phone Box: British pay telephones are commonly referred to as Phone Boxes. To make a call within the UK, first obtain the national code for the city that you are calling. The national code precedes the residence or the business telephone number when dialing. Follow the instructions in the phone booth to place a call. Commercial calls may be placed from your room. Refer to the instructions within this guest directory to place and receive calls in your room. The Bob Hope Community Center also provides a pay-as-you-go telephone services for both the U.S. and U.K. calls. If needed, calling cards can be purchased at the Shoppette, located within the AAFES BXTRA.

2 Telephone Instructions The telephone in your room has the capability to dial DSN, commercial, on-base and off-base. Commercial, local, and long distance phone call will be billed to your room. Please note there is a connection charge per call to off-base and cell phone numbers. The average connection charge from local carriers is approximately $0.20.
