27 FINAL CONCLUSIONS Consumer: still a goldmine? Market for smartphones/portable applications is levelling Automotive & Medical applications offer pockets of growth and profitability. The car industry is still hungry for sensors. Autonomous cars bring new opportunities. For BioMEMS, boundary between consumer and healthcare applications blurs. This trend has the potential to carry the biomems industry across the gap from medium to large volumes, enabling significant cost decreases. 27
