2 The computer is a tool in which the student uses to access the curriculum or support an individual IEP Goal.

4 Switch Interface A switch interface connects the switch to the computer. The switch interface acts as mouse clicks or keyboard commands. 1-4 switches can be connected to this switch interface.

5 Access methods for the Computer

6 Why use a switch? If the student is using a switch to access their environment due to physical/motor needs then the best access method for the computer would be to use a switch. If a student can physically access the computer, then switch access should not be used.

7 If the student can physically access all four quadrants of the computer screen then they should not use a switch. If they cannot physically access all four quadrants of the computer screen then switch use should be considered.

8 Using a Switch as a Pointing Device Using the switch as a mouse is the access method and a means to an end.
