1 Hardware Announcement July 11, 2006 Infoprint 4100 Models HS2 and HD4 now include the Infoprint POWER Controller Overview The enhanced Infoprint POWER Controller: Is now standard on the Infoprint 4100 Models HS2 and HD4. This controller is presently standard on the models HS3 and HD6. Provides a new level of printer performance, reliability and productivity Is the follow-on to IBM s proven Advanced Function Common Control Unit (AFCCU ) architecture. Is available as an upgrade on installed AFCCU Model HS2 or HD3/4 printers. New processors for the Infoprint 4100 HS2 and HD4 with the Infoprint POWER Controller provide industry-leading performance and increased functionality. 2 Infoprint POWER Controller Description The IBM Infoprint POWER Controller provides the next level of printer performance, reliability and productivity which can lower operational costs, increase printer utilization and improve overall throughput. The POWER controller represents the evolution of IBM s proven Advanced Function Common Control Unit (AFCCU) architecture. The AFP Colour Emulation feature allows the Infoprint 4100 with the POWER controller to print colour images in grayscale. The Infoprint 4100 converts the colour images with IBM s innovative 256-level grayscale technology. The Infoprint POWER Controller uses the multiprocessing capabilities of multiple POWER5 processors to provide a cost-effective, industry-leading, highly scalable processing capability. The Infoprint POWER Controller: Is now standard on the Infoprint 4100 Models HS2 and HD4. This controller is presently standard on the models HS3 and HD6. Is available as an upgrade on installed AFCCU Model HS2 or HD3/4 printers. New processors for the Infoprint 4100 HS2 and HD4 provide industry-leading performance and increased functionality. Provide support only for the Infoprint POWER Controller. The p5 55A processors do not support the AFCCU. Integrated 10/100/1000 BaseT (Gigabit Ethernet) Port in Controller A 10/100/1000 BaseT or Gigabit Ethernet Copper TX port, integrated into the control unit, is standard in the HS2 and HD4 processors (#9244, #9245, #4264 and #4265) and (#9644, #9645 and #4664). This Ethernet port can be used for functions such as print data, SNMP, and such features as Infoprint Manager Operations on the Controller (#4560) or the Productivity Tracking Feature (#4565) for true two-way communication. If other Ethernet attachments are ordered, such as a Gigabit Ethernet SX feature, only one of these Ethernet ports can be enabled at one time for the purpose of receiving print data. Attachment features There are two card slots in the printer controller on the Models HS2 and HD4 for additional adapters (in addition to the Integrated Ethernet Adapter described above). On the Models HS2 and HD4, the two adapters can be any combination of supported adapters. The optional adapters available for the Infoprint 4100 depend on the processor installed. When a p550 processor (#9244, #9245, #4264 or #4265) is installed, the following table summarizes the adapter feature numbers. Restrictions with p5 55A Processors The following restrictions apply to the p5 55A processors (#9644, #9645, #4644, #4645 and #4664) The Advanced Function Common Control Unit is not supported. Only UP3i feature #4740 can be used. UP3i feature number 4730 is not valid. The Advanced Pre- and Post-processing feature (#4720) cannot be installed with these processors. Infoprint POWER Controller (#9650) Initial Order Infoprint POWER Controller (#4800) MES Summary: This feature code allows the installation of a an Infoprint POWER Controller on an Infoprint 4100 Model HS2 or HD4. This capability facilitates migration to full-colour Advanced Function Presentation (AFP) workflows and reduces the need for future resource conversions for colour printers. Applications can now be designed using colour objects and printed as-is on Infoprint The AFP Colour Emulation feature supports the printing of industry-standard colour and grayscale image objects on monochrome printers. The image types listed below are supported natively in the printer controller. This adds the flexibility to reuse image objects across multiple monochrome and colour workflows. AFP Colour Emulation also supports a workflow of variable data images such as those used in check-printing applications. The AFP Colour Emulation feature supports the following image types: TIFF GIF JPEG/JFIF IPDS IOCA FS11 IPDS IOCA FS45 Potential applications include: Printing production statements incorporating grayscaled, industry-standard, full-colour image objects. Examples include production statements that incorporate variable data and cached image objects (such as a company logo) or advertisements with photographs. Printing variable data check image objects (TIFF or FS11). For example, grayscale or bi-level check images from a check scanner used for a Check 21 1 application or for bank statements. The AFP Colour Emulation feature is available by ordering the following feature numbers on an Infoprint 4100 Model HD4 or Feature number 4850 (initial order) Feature number 4851 (MES upgrade) Feature numbers 4850 and 4851 have the following prerequisites: An Infoprint 4100 Model HD4 or HD6 with V15.0 microcode and HD6 IPDS Performance Upgrade (#4264 or #4265) Most common image formats are supported.
