IBM 4400 Printer IBM 6400 Line Matrix Printer with IPDS coax or IPDS Ethernet feature Infoprint Manager server hardware and software requirements Recommended server hardware and minimum software requirements for Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 In environments with lighter print loads, the minimum configuration for running the Infoprint Manager V4.2 base code is a 400 MHz POWER3 -II processor, 600 MHz RS64 processor, or 1.0 GHz POWER4 processor with: 1 GB of memory 18 GB of DASD CD-ROM 17-inch graphical display Commercial print applications will usually require additional DASD for storing job tickets, their associated jobs, and retained jobs. The recommended configuration for running the Infoprint Manager V4.2 base code in a basic printing environment, where there are many single-copy PostScript jobs, with one or two Infoprint 4000 Model IR1/IR2 printers, is an IBM 7028 pseries 630 workstation with the following: 21-inch graphical display Two 1.2 GHz processors 4 GB of memory Two 36.4 GB disk drives CD-ROM drive Appropriate printer and LAN attachments 4 GB/8 GB 4-mm tape drive If Infoprint 4000 Model IR3/IR4, any Infoprint 4000 ID model, or Infoprint 4100 printers are used instead of Model IR1/IR2 printers, the recommended configuration for running the Infoprint Manager V4.2 base code in a basic printing environment, where there are many single-copy PostScript jobs, is an IBM 7028 pseries 630 workstation with the following: 21-inch graphical display Four 1.45 GHz processors 8 GB of memory Two 36.4 GB disk drives CD-ROM drive Appropriate printer and LAN attachments 4 GB/8 GB 4-mm tape drive Additional processors could be added to allow the PostScript L3 transform to rasterize more jobs concurrently. The minimum configuration that yields the best performance depends on many factors, especially the characteristics of printing applications. Infoprint Manager supports many combinations of applications, functions, and printers. Defining the exact server configuration needed for every potential use is not practical. Notes 1. FDDI or 100baseT Ethernet are recommended for those printers which support them. 2. Additional memory may be desirable for some applications. 3. Disk configurations may affect server performance, especially when other applications are running on the server. 4. Infoprint Manager can be installed or run on smaller or slower systems, but performance will be affected. Customers planning to migrate from Print Services Facility for AIX V2 to Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 may require additional disk storage capacity. The disk storage increase is required for the Infoprint job processing input work area (located in the file system /var/psf/segments). Advanced installations may need to increase the size and placement of this file system. The following factors should be considered: 1. Current size of the file system /var/psf/segments 2. Type of datastream 3. Size and volume of current advanced workload

If you do not have disk capacity available for increasing the input work area file system, additional disk hardware is required. An advanced customer is affected only if the size of the current job mix exceeds the size of /var/psf/segments. Recommended server hardware and minimum software requirements for Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2: The recommended configuration for the server workstation is: 2-way 2.4 GHz PC. In some situations, depending on workload, print datastreams, and number and speeds of printers, a 2-way PC may be sufficient 2 GB RAM Three hard disks with 96 GB total capacity Graphics display Windows 2000 Professional SP4, Windows 2000 Server SP4, Windows XP Professional, or Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition Internet Explorer 6.0, or later Client hardware and software requirements: Client workstations that will submit jobs via the Infoprint Job Ticketer must have the following: IBM Java JRE (provided on the Infoprint Manager POD CD) or the Sun Java JRE (available from the Sun Web site) Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or Safari The minimum Windows configuration for Infoprint Submit Express, the Infoprint Administrations and Operations GUI, Infoprint Job Ticketer, and Infoprint Select is: PC with an 800 MHz Pentium III processor 256 MB RAM (512 MB RAM recommended for Infoprint Job Ticketer) CD-ROM 10 MB DASD for program storage Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional LAN connection (either Ethernet or Token-Ring) IBM TCP/IP Access to the Infoprint Manager Server The Infoprint GUIs and Infoprint Submit Express can also run under Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. Note: DCE will not be supported by Infoprint Manager for AIX versions or releases after V4.2. If you plan to print the output generated by the DBCS ASCII and EUC transform, you must be able to access Japanese, Traditional Chinese, or Korean fonts from your RS/6000 or PC. ACIF can also be used to produce Simplified Chinese output. The IBM AFP Font Collection (5648-B45) and Infoprint Fonts (5648-E77) include Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese fonts. Job routing and resource mounting requirements: If you plan to use TCP/IP or NFS to route print jobs from other IBM systems or mount resources from other IBM systems, the following list shows the products that must be installed on the applicable systems, and it indicates the minimum release levels of those products: For VM systems: 5735-FAL IBM TCP/IP for VM V2.2 with Network File System Feature (feature 0802 or 0803) installed Optionally, the 5798-DRG VM Interface Program for TCP/IP

For OS/400 systems: 5722-TC1 IBM TCP/IP Connectivity Utilities/400 V5.1 Routing print jobs to or from the VSE/ESA system using File Transfer Protocol (FTP) requires that one or more of the following products be installed on the VSE/ESA system: TCP/IP for VSE/ESA (5686-A04) If you plan to use PSF Direct to send print datastreams from PSF on OS/390, MVS, VM, VSE, or OS/400 systems across SNA links to Infoprint Manager the following list shows the products that must be installed on the applicable system and it indicates the minimum release levels of these products: PSF for OS/390 V3.3 (5655-B17), PSF/VM V2.1.1 ( ), PSF/VSE V2.2.1 ( ), or a supported version of OS/400 with the PSF/400 feature. The lowest supported releases of OS/400 is currently V5.1. For z/os with SNA LU 6.2 communications, you need the z/os Communications Server base element of z/os For VM and VSE with LU 6.2 communications via a 3270 or 3275 Communications Controller you need the following: ACF/Virtual Telecommunications Access Method (ACF/VTAM ) V3.4 (VM: , ), (VSE: ), or later ACF/Network Control Program (ACF/NCP), V4.2 ( ), or later For VM and VSE with LU 6.2 communications via a 3745 Communications Controller Token-Ring System you need the following: ACF/VTAM, V3.3, or later ACF/NCP, V5.0 ( ), or later For VM and VSE with LU 6.2 communications via a 3174 Establishment Controller Token-Ring Gateway you need ACF/VTAM, V3.3, or later If you plan to use Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 to upload print data to a S/390, you need the following software: Host System z/os 1.3 (5694-A01), or later For SNA communications, z/os Communications Server base element of z/os and TCP/IP Workstation AIX V5.1, AIX V5.2 ( with APAR 44183), or AIX V5.3 Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 For SNA communications, SecureWay Communications Server for AIX V6.1 (5765-E51) Compatibility: The same spool files may be used when migrating to Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 from Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.1. Similarly, the same spool files may be used when migrating to Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2 from Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.1. However, in both cases the queues must be drained and the printers stopped before the migration process is started. For both Infoprint Manager for AIX V4 and Infoprint Manager for Windows V2, the Release 1 Java Admin GUI is not supported under Release 2. Limitations: The Calibration GUI has been renamed the Halftone Management System and moved from the Infoprint Manager for AIX base to the POD optional feature. Customers who wish to continue using this capability need to order the POD optional feature. Limitations Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 and Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2 do not support microfiche output. Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 and Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2 are not supported by OS/390 Print Server. Infoprint Submit is intended primarily for basic printing and doesn t support the full range of Infoprint capability. In particular, Infoprint Submit should not be used with the Advanced GUI and Server. The IBM 3112, 3116, 3912, and 3916 Page Printers provide 4028 subset emulation with some host error recovery and resource management. Error recovery is resident in the printer with selected status messages returned to the host. Some set-up values are communicated to the host through operator panel key sequences. The full error-recovery capabilities of Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 and Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2 are not available with non-ipds printers. The vector graphics (GOCA), bar code (BCOCA), compressed image (IOCA), and duplex functions are not available on all printers attached to Infoprint Manager. Refer to the publication Advanced Function Printing : Printer Information (G ) for a description of the printers supporting these functions. Resolution conversion algorithms may yield degraded appearance when used to reduce the resolution of a datastream. For this reason, the PCL transform may degrade the appearance of higher-resolution datastreams when used with 240-pel printers. The customer should verify that print fidelity is satisfactory. Jobs downloaded using the MVS Download facility must be spooled on the workstation. Print resources used by these jobs are not downloaded with the jobs. They may be stored permanently on the workstation, but must be managed manually. There are subtle differences between PCL4 and PCL5E when it comes to handling fonts, and while many PCL4 files will work with this transform, some may not produce the expected output. Adobe PostScript Distiller and support for Lotus Domino are not included in Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 or Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2. When Infoprint Manager is used with Infoprint Transform Manager, the transforms in Transform Manager are automatically invoked instead of the corresponding transforms in Infoprint Manager. The fax-line optional feature of Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.1 is not offered in V4.2. However, customers who already have this feature may continue using it with V4.2 and may continue getting software maintenance on it. This feature supports a maximum of 17 fax lines and ISA-bus fax cards only. It does not support PCI-bus fax cards. In addition, this feature is not supported under AIX V4.3. The Advanced Scan client is no longer included with Infoprint Manager for AIX V

Fonts in the AFP Font Collection are no longer included with Infoprint Manager. The AFP Font Collection is still available as a separate program, 5648-B45, as is Infoprint Fonts for Multiplatforms (5648-E77). In Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2, the Halftone Management System is moved out of the product base into the POD optional feature. Support for the following are not included in Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2: Installation of the server under AIX V4.3.3 Security using DCE V3.1 Infoprint Select under Windows NT, Windows 98, or Windows ME Infoprint Submit Express under Macintosh 10.1 or Windows NT Infoprint Submit for Windows Infoprint Submit for Macintosh Tivoli Non-IPDS models of the IBM Infoprint Color 100 and IBM Infocolor 70 printers Font Save utility S/390 parallel channel emulator card Variable data plug-ins that use the MergeDoc component of Infoprint Manager The following SMIT panels are no longer included: Add a printer or PSF queue Show/change characteristics of a printer Remove a printer Submit an Infoprint job Customers who wish to drive more than 50 printers with Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2 should sign a services contract for a performance study to ensure that their network has sufficient capacity for the print data traffic. Support for the following are not included in Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2: Installation of the server under Windows NT Infoprint Select under Windows NT, Windows 98, or Windows NT Infoprint Submit Express under Macintosh 10.1 or Windows NT Infoprint Submit for Windows Infoprint Submit for Macintosh S/390 parallel channel emulator card is supported under Windows 2000, but not Windows XP or Windows 2003 Server Tape input AFP upload and print Fax input or output output Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2 does not include support for DCE and will not interoperate with an installation of Infoprint Manager for AIX that uses DCE. Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2 allows only limited workgroup print scalability. Recommended maximum configurations for workgroup print environments include those environments with up to 50 printers per server, depending on printer type, speed, and application datastream. For larger workgroup and distributed print environments, IBM recommends using Infoprint Manager for AIX. The Job Ticketer interface will display some information, such as job status and job logs, from the Infoprint Manager server in the same language that the server is using, regardless of the language that Job Ticketer is using. If the Infoprint Manager server and Job Ticketer are not using the same language, some special characters entered in the text fields in Job Ticketer may be lost. Performance considerations: Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 and Infoprint Manager for Windows V2.2 support multiple printers from a server. The actual number that can be effectively supported will vary with the printer speed, method of printer attachment, the density and complexity of the average page, additional datastream transforms, and the specific workstation used. Some environments require more than one server. Some combinations of applications, configurations, and printer speeds may require careful evaluation to determine feasibility on a particular Infoprint Manager configuration. In particular, PostScript datastreams vary greatly in complexity. Not all will run at rated speed, even when rasterizing multiple PostScript jobs concurrently. 10 The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities. Ordering information Infoprint Manager for AIX and Infoprint Manager for Windows are client/server products with additional charges for optional features and printer attachments. The printer attachments depend on the numbers and speeds of the attached printers. Ordering instructions New licensees: The machine-readable code will be refreshed to include translated error messages and help screens on January 14, Orders for the U.S. English media that are received before January 14, 2005, will be shipped without translations. Orders received after that date will be shipped with translations. Infoprint Manager for AIX: Order an Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 license for each SP node or license for each workstation on which you will run the server. You do not need to order a license for a workstation used for cold backup. However, you do need to order a license for each workstation used for hot backup or HACMP. Specify 5765-F68. Specify the one-time charge (OTC) feature numbers and media feature numbers from the table below. Determine the speed-tiers of your printers: 0-49 impressions-per-minute (workgroup) impressions-per-minute (low-speed) impressions-per-minute (medium-speed) 117 or more impressions-per-minute (high-speed) Note that these speed-tiers are different than the ones for Infoprint Manager for AIX Version 3. Order a print engine license for each print engine in each speed-tier. Note that duplex fanfold printers have two print engines. Workgroup print engine licenses are sold in groups of 25, but there are also ordering-convenience features for ordering two or four groups at a time. These convenience features allow you to order 50 or 100 workgroup print engine licenses at a time. Count all printers that you expect to drive from the Infoprint system. Do not count printers used for backup only. The following apply in situations where Infoprint Manager is connected to a host PSF system: If you are using AFP Upload, do not count printers in the Infoprint Manager calculation if they are connected to the host system. These printers should be included in the calculations of the host PSF tiers. If you are using PSF/390 Download, printers driven by Infoprint Manager should be included in the Infoprint Manager calculations, not the host PSF tiers Printers driven by PSF Direct should be included in both the Infoprint Manager and host PSF tier calculations. IBM impact printers are counted in the low-speed tier. Example: Suppose you wish to use Infoprint Manager for AIX to drive the following printers: An Infoprint 60, which prints at 60 ipm An Infoprint 2000, which prints at 110 ipm An Infoprint 4000 ID5/ID6, which prints at 1002 ipm and has two print engines A LAN with 43 Infoprint 20 printers, each of which prints at 20 ipm The Infoprint 60 requires one Low-speed Print Engine license feature. The Infoprint 2000 requires one Medium-speed Print Engine license feature. Because it has two print engines, the Infoprint 4000 ID5/ID6 requires two High-speed Print Engine license features. Finally, the Infoprint 20 printers require a total of 43 Workgroup Print Engine licenses, which can be obtained by ordering a quantity of two of the following feature: 1 Group of 25 Or you can order a quantity of 1 of: 2 Groups of 25 (Total 50) The first year of Software Maintenance is included with the purchase price of this product. However, you must register to ensure entitlement. A three-year option, which consists of the first year and an additional two years, is also available. Refer to the Software Maintenance section for a description of Software Maintenance and ordering instructions. You do not need to order a license for a server used for cold backup only. Specify 5639-N49. Specify OTC feature numbers and media feature numbers from the table below. Determine the speed-tiers of your printers: 0-49 impressions-per-minute (workgroup) impressions-per-minute (low-speed) impressions-per-minute (medium-speed) 117 or more impressions-per-minute (high-speed)

Note that these speed-tiers are new with Infoprint Manager for Windows Version 2 and in particular, are different than the ones for Version 1 of Infoprint Manager for Windows NT and Windows Order a print engine license for each print engine in each speed-tier. Note that duplex fanfold printers have two print engines. Workgroup print engine licenses are sold in groups of 25, but there are also ordering-convenience features for ordering two or four groups at time. These convenience features allow you to order 50 or 100 workgroup print engine licenses at a time. Count all printers that you expect to drive from the Infoprint system. The following apply in situations where Infoprint Manager is connected to a host PSF system: If you are using PSF/390 Download, printers driven by Infoprint Manager should be included in the Infoprint Manager calculations, not the host PSF tiers Printers driven by PSF Direct and DPF should be included in both the Infoprint Manager and host PSF tier calculations. IBM impact printers are counted in the low-speed tier. Customers who wish to drive more than 50 printers should sign a services contract for a performance study to ensure that their network has sufficient capacity for the print data traffic. Example: Suppose you wish to use Infoprint Manager to drive the following printers: An Infoprint 60, which prints at 60 ipm An Infoprint 2000, which prints at 110 ipm An Infoprint 4000 ID5/ID6, which prints duplex at 1002 ipm A LAN with 43 Infoprint 20 printers, each of which prints at 20 ipm The Infoprint 60 requires 1 Low-speed Print Engine license feature. The Infoprint 2000 requires 1 Medium-speed Print Engine license feature. Because it has two print engines, the Infoprint 4000 ID5/ID6 requires two High-speed Print Engine license features. Finally, the Infoprint 20 printers require a total of 43 Workgroup Print Engine licenses, which can be obtained by ordering a quantity of two of: 1 Group of 25 Or you can order a quantity of one of the following feature: 2 Groups of 25 (Total 50) The first year of Software Maintenance is included with the purchase price of this product. Technical Support is provided by the IBM Support Line. Software Subscription consists of no-charge entitlement at the same level of service to all new releases and versions of Infoprint Manager for AIX generally available during the Software Maintenance contract period. If you want Software Maintenance, a Software Maintenance contract is required for each Infoprint Manager license. Software Maintenance has three kinds of features: 1. Registration features, intended for customers who are buying Infoprint Manager for the first time, or who are buying additional Infoprint Manager licenses or features. 2. Renewal features, intended for customers whose current Software Maintenance contracts are coming up for expiration and who wish to renew them. Note that IBM does not send out notifications of expirations of these software maintenance contracts. It is up to the customer to apply for renewal. 3. After License features, intended for customers who have let their Software Maintenance contracts lapse, or who are upgrading from a previous version of Infoprint Manager. The first year of Software Maintenance is included with the purchase price of this product. However, you must register to ensure entitlement. A three-year option, which consists of the first year and an additional two years, is also available. The Software Maintenance offerings have the same product structure as the Infoprint Manager licensed programs. For every Infoprint Manager optional feature, there is a corresponding Infoprint Manager Software Maintenance optional feature. You should order the same Software Maintenance optional features and the same quantity of Software Maintenance optional features as licensed program optional features

Initial orders: If you are upgrading from the previous release of Infoprint Manager, follow the instructions under Upgrades. If you are not upgrading, choose either the annual (one-year) or three-year option for each Infoprint Manager server license. Specify the Software Maintenance Registration feature for each Infoprint Manager for OTC feature that you order. The Software Maintenance Registration features should be specified in the same quantity as the Infoprint Manager features. Adding features: If you add features to your Infoprint Manager server license after its initial order, order an additional Software Maintenance contract. Do not try to add additional features to the existing Software Maintenance contract since the new features will have a different expiration date. Software Maintenance features should be in the same quantity as Infoprint Manager features. Renewals: If your current Software Maintenance contract is coming up for expiration and you wish to renew, choose either the annual (one-year) or three-year option for each Infoprint Manager server license. Note that IBM does not send out notifications of expirations of these software maintenance contracts. It is up to the customer to apply for renewal. Order a Software Maintenance Renewal feature for each Infoprint Manager for AIX OTC feature that you have installed. Software Maintenance features should be in the same quantity as Infoprint Manager features. If your current Software Maintenance contracts have features with staggered expiration dates, you may order renewals as the features expire. Software Maintenance features should always be in the same quantity as Infoprint Manager features. Reinstatements: You may reinstate Software Maintenance after it has lapsed. Choose either the annual (one-year) or three-year option for each Infoprint Manager server license. Order a Software Maintenance After License feature for each Infoprint Manager for AIX OTC feature that you have installed. Software Maintenance features should always be in the same quantity as Infoprint Manager features. Upgrades: Customers with the previous release of Infoprint Manager and a current software maintenance contract may upgrade to the new release at the same level of service by ordering the media features of their current Software Maintenance PID number. Upgrade example: Suppose you currently have Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.1 with the PPFA optional feature and use it to drive an Infoprint 60 printer and an Infoprint 4000 ID5/ID6 printer. To order an upgrade to Infoprint Manager for AIX V4.2 under a one-year Software Maintenance contract, specify 5765-F90 with the following features: Media feature for the Infoprint Manager Base in the desired language Media feature for PPFA Media feature for Medium-speed Print Engine Media feature for High-speed Print Engine Note: While the Fax-line optional feature is no longer offered for new licenses, software maintenance support for this feature continues to be available to existing licensees by ordering the appropriate Fax-line Renewal or After License feature.
