5 GAME INTERFACE OPTIONS Communications Connections Although the Nanoptix PayCheck Printer is a complex device, its operation is quite simple. The Printer requires two consumables to operate: (1) a regulated 24 VDC Power Source, and (2) Thermalsensitive Paper. The PayCheck Printer is equipped with the following communication interface ports: 1. A Power/Communication Port, located at the bottom rear of the Unit; 2. A USB Port, located at the top rear of the Unit; and 3. A Maintenance USB port, located on the side of the printer. NOTE: A 3-pin I/O Connector, situated at the front of the Unit, can be used to control an externally-illuminated Bezel. Table 2 lists the PayCheck Printer s Communications Ports. The Sensor types include: A Photo-interruptible Sensor, used to detect the Main Bracket's Open/Close Status. A reflective Optical Sensor located at the front of the Ticket Tray, used to detect a Low Paper condition. NOTE: On certain Printers, a second Paper Low Indicator is located on the left side of the Paper Tray. A third Optical Sensor, used in the Printing Mechanism Assembly to detect the presence of Paper, and start the Feed Motor when loading Paper. A fourth Optical Sensor located in the Paper Chute, which works in conjunction with the third Optical Sensor to re-align the Paper back to its "Ready" position. When the Sensors are not reporting any errors, and a recognized data stream is sent to the Printer, a printed Ticket will result. 2013, JCM Global, Corporation 7 Part No R_Rev. 1

14 DOWNLOAD FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS To Flash program the PayCheck Series of Printers: 1. Create a PayCheck Firmware Folder on your PC. 2. From the Windows Desktop, launch WinZip (or use another "unzip" extractor utility program), then extract the ".zip" file to the folder created in Step 1 (Figure 11a, b 1 /b 2 /c). NOTE: DO NOT run flashimage.exe from within the ".zip" File Folder that was just created; doing so will cause the Firmware upgrade to fail! 3. Make sure that the Printer is using a 24 VDC Power source, and is connected via the available RS232 or USB options. NOTE: The flashimage.exe Firmware Downloading Application looks for a known Printer via the USB Port first. (If no printer is found, it will check the installed Serial COM Ports on your PC.) The side USB Port (Figure 4 c) is faster, and is strongly recommended. a b 2 b 1 c Figure 11 Typical WinZip File Extraction Screen 2013, JCM Global, Corporation 14 Part No R_Rev. 1
15 4. Run the FlashImage.exe file (Figure 12). Figure 12 Typical Flashimage.exe Download Screen 1 The application will begin searching for Printers. Once a Printer is found, the application automatically switches to Download mode (e.g., the LED and Buzzer activate once per second). Next, the flashimage.exe program will download the (*.bix) Configuration Files (Figure 13). Figure 13 Typical Flashimage.exe Download Screen , JCM Global, Corporation 15 Part No R_Rev. 1
16 5. Next, the Firmware (*.bin) Image File is sent to the Printer in 64KB instruction blocks. During the final critical 20 to 30 seconds during the download, the Printer will transfer this information from its RAM to its Flash Memory. Finally, the Printer will reboot, and will automatically return to RUN Mode (Figure 13). NOTE: DO NOT disconnect Power or Communications until the Download is complete! 6. For verification purposes, a Power Up Report (Status Ticket) can be printed. To print the Ticket, make sure the printer is powered ON, then press the Paper Feed button. A Power Up Report (similar to Figure 2 on page 3) will be printed, which can be used to verify the Firmware Version. NOTE: Pressing the Paper Feed button again will result in blank Tickets being printed! 2013, JCM Global, Corporation 16 Part No R_Rev. 1
