4 1 Introduction 1.1 Validity This document applies to the Workstation PVS 7. It has been produced on the basis of the following versions: Microsoft *) Windows *) 7, incl. all the latest security updates PView 7 PGuard advance Pictures in this document may differ from the actual product. 1.2 Documents Installation and Configuration (this document) The document entitled Installation and Configuration contains detailed descriptions of the installation, connection, commissioning and configuration of the device. Safety instructions, general notes and technical data are additionally provided. The target audience is exclusively specially trained and authorized professionals (installers). 1.3 Conventions This document contains various warning words and symbols that indicate potential sources of danger. DANGER DANGER indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. WARNING WARNING indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. CAUTION CAUTION indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury. 6 2 Safety Instructions Only use this unit if it is technically in proper working order, to the intended purpose and while keeping safety and potential dangers in mind. Qualified personnel Installation, mounting, connection, commissioning and configuration of the unit may only be carried out by qualified personnel. This also applies to the maintenance, testing and repair, whereat the regulations of the DIN VDE 0701 series of standards (repair, modification and inspection of electrical appliances) must be followed. Regulations The use of video and audio surveillance systems in general is strictly regulated. Inform yourself about the applicable laws and regulations regarding data, working and environmental protection before using the unit and ensure compliance with them. System components Only use internal components that have been tested and approved by Dallmeier. Inappropriate internal components can cause malfunctions, damages and data loss and can result in loss of warranty. Modifications Do not make any modifications to the hardware or software that has not been tested and approved by Dallmeier. Always observe the contained instructions, notes and warnings. Condensation water If the unit is brought from a cold to a warm environment, resulting condensation water can cause malfunctions and damages. In this case wait (up to 8 hours) until the unit has reached room temperature before commissioning. Operating conditions Unfavourable operating conditions can shorten the life of the unit and can cause malfunctions, damages and data loss and can result in loss of warranty. Observe the specifications given in the technical data, the operating condition requirements and the maintenance instructions. Shocks Shocks can cause malfunctions and damages. The unit may not be moved while in operation. Foreign bodies If objects or liquids get into the unit, immediately disconnect it from the power supply (pull out the power plug). Contact the sales partner responsible for your area. 6

7 Burnt smell If you notice burnt smell or formation of smoke from the unit, immediately disconnect it from the power supply (pull out the power plug). Contact the sales partner responsible for your area. Opening The housing of the unit may only be opened by qualified personnel for commissioning, inspection, maintenance and repair. Disposal Disconnect the unit from the power supply. Remove all connected devices. Return the unit to your respective sales partner. 7

The functional range of the device depends on the ordered equipment or device variant and may differ from this document s content. Certain functions and features may require an activation that is subject to costs. 3.2 Transportation and packaging Store the original packaging for transportation at a later date. Dallmeier electronic is not responsible for damage resulting from unprofessional/improper transportation. The goods should only be shipped in their original packaging. If the original packaging is no longer available, ensure that the packaging used sufficiently protects the unit against damage, moisture, heat and cold. 3.3 Appropriate use The PView Station PVS 7 is a HD compatible stand-alone evaluation and management station for Dallmeier recorders. Its powerful Intel Core *) 2Duo or Intel Core2Quad CPU respectively, enables a smooth video display with high image quality in up to 24 independent splits. The connection between PVS 7 and one or more Dallmeier recorders is realised via an IP based network. All necessary hardware and software is already installed and pre-configured. 8

10 4 Requirements 4.1 General Unfavourable local conditions may shorten the life of the device and can cause malfunctions or damages. ¾¾Do not install/operate the device in places with large scale dust and dirt. with steam or oil vapours (e.g. kitchen). with direct sunlight. strong heat emission (e.g. radiator). with improper ambient temperatures. near sources of strong radiation (e.g. radio transmitters, magnetic fields). with corrosive surroundings (e.g. gases, salt water). insufficient air ventilation (e.g. closed cabinet). 4.2 Stand-alone operation The recorder normally can be set up and operated at any place that meets the requirements above. Observe the following requirements and notes in addition. Computer room This recorder is not for use in a computer room as defined in the US fire protection regulation Standard for Protection of Electronic Computer/Data Processing Equipment, ANSI/ NFPA 75. Secured room Risk of manipulation and sabotage. A stand-alone installation should be made in secured rooms with restricted access only. Socket-outlet The socket-outlet to be used has to be installed near the device. Is has to be easily accessible. 4.3 Operation in a 19" rack The recorder can be installed and operated in a 19" standard rack, that is situated at a place that meets the requirements above. Observe the following requirements and notes in addition. Elevated ambient temperature The ambient temperature in a multi-unit rack may be higher than the room ambient. Ensure that the maximum ambient temperature in the rack complies with the requirements specified in the technical data. 10

11 Reduced air flow The air flow in a (closed) rack may be reduced. Ensure that the amount of air flow required for save operation is not compromised. Ensure sufficient ventilation with 10 cm free space on the recorder s front, rear and right side. Earthing Always ensure reliable earthing of the recorder. 11

12 5 Mounting The PVS 7 is designed for stand-alone operation. As an option it may also be installed in a 19" standard rack. 5.1 Stand-alone operation Fig. 5-1 ¾¾Ensure a stable and horizontal surface. ¾¾Ensure 10 cm of free space at the front, rear and right side. ¾¾Connect the recorder as described on the following pages. ¾¾Commission the recorder as described on the following pages. 12

13 5.2 Operation in a 19" rack Fig. 5-2 ¾¾Exclusively use the 19" holder provided by Dallmeier. ¾¾Insert the recorder into the 19" holder. ¾¾Use the housing feet as guidance. Fig

14 ¾¾Use the 4 screws delivered with the 19" holder. ¾¾Mount the housing in the 19" holder with the 4 screws. ¾¾Ensure that the ventilation slots are not covered. 16 6.2 Connection assignment The number of connections can differ depending on the ordered equipment or device variant. The following description relates to a standard configuration of the PVS 7. 17 7 Connection and commisssionig First connect all required peripheral devices (mouse, keyboard, USB licence dongle, etc.) and establish a network connection if required. 7.1 Monitors The PVS 7 allows the connection of one or two monitors in its basic equipment. When connecting several monitors the most left monitor has to be connected to the first active monitor output (M1). The next monitor on its right side has to be connected to the next monitor output (M2). Variant 1 M1 = VGA output M2 = DVI 1 output Variant 2 M1 = DVI 1 output M2 = DVI 2 output The DVI outputs are not suitable for the connection of VGA adapters. 7.2 Commissioning ¾¾Switch on the periphal devices if necessary. ¾¾Connect the supplied dongle to a USB port on the PVS 7. ¾¾Connect the power supply. ¾¾Switch on the PVS 7. The PVS 7 starts automatically in the following steps: Start of the operating system. Automatic login with the user account prepared from Dallmeier electronic. Automatic start from the software PView 7 and PGuard advance. A dialogue requesting to enter the serial number will be displayed when the Dallmeier software is starting if the licence dongle is not connected accurately. 17

18 If the dialogue to enter the serial number is displayed, proceed as follows: ¾¾Close the Hardlock-Dongle unlocking dialogue with Cancel. ¾¾Shut down the PVS 7. ¾¾Connect the USB license dongle correctly. ¾¾Launch the PVS 7 again. After successful launch PView 7 is displayed in full-screen mode. The software PGuard advance is active in the Background. Fig

19 8 Configuration 8.1 Periphery Peripheral devices (printer, keyboard, etc.) have to be connected and installed with the current drivers according to the manufactures guidelines. Note the documentation of the operating system and peripheral devices. 8.2 Monitors ¾¾Open the desktop context menu by right-clicking on the desktop. ¾¾Select Screen resolution. The appropriate configuration surface is indicated in a window. Fig. 8-1 M1 M2 ¾¾Mark the inactive monitor (2) with a leftclick. ¾¾Select Extend these displays in the dropdown box Multiple displays. ¾¾Click Apply to save the setting. ¾¾Confirm with OK. 8.3 Software The PView 7 and PGuard advance software is already installed on the PVS 7. It finally has to be configured for the particular application. Please refer to the according manuals for detailed information on the installed software (PView 7, PGuard advance, etc.). 19

20 9 Maintenance Changing the filter mat and possibly occasional cleaning of the housing are the only maintenance work that you have to carry out at your system. 9.1 Changing the filter mat A filter mat is positioned behind the front panel in front of the intake fan. This filter mat prevents dirt particles in the ambient air from entering the unit. A strongly soiled filter mat can impair the cooling air supply. This can lead to a system failure due to overheating. NOTICE Change the filter mat regularly, at the latest when it is gray. The frequency of filter changes is dependent upon the installation site and the degree of soiling associated with it. In normal office rooms, checking every three months is generally sufficient, while a monthly check would be recommended for rooms with large amounts of dust (storage etc.). Filter-change procedure ¾¾The unit should be switched off (replacement is possible while in operation, however). ¾¾Open the front panel on the left side of the recorder. ¾¾Remove the soiled filter mat. ¾¾Remove lint/dust from the mesh with a dry cloth if necessary. ¾¾Insert a new filter mat. ¾¾Close the panel. 9.2 Cleaning the unit If the housing of your system is soiled, use a dry cleaning cloth to clean it. NOTICE Do not use cleansing agents or detergents! Some cleansing agents and detergents contain solvents that can damage the surface of your system. 20
