4 1 Introduction 1.1 Validity This document applies to the installation of the SeMSy III Failover Server software. 5 2 General Notes 2.1 Appropriate Use The SeMSy III Failover Server software is a failover (hot standby) for network-based Dallmeier recording systems. The software permanently monitors the availability of all recording systems in the SeMSy III video management system. When the recording of a system is interrupted (fail of the device, loss of the network connection, HDD or RAID failure), the Failover Server switches all streams for the recording on the defined spare recording system. 2.2 Performance Features Monitoring of the availability of recording systems Definition of standby recording systems for all monitored recording systems Detection of failure of the recording system, loss of the network connection, HDD or RAID failure Instant switching of all streams for recording on spare recording systems Triggering of failover operation indicators on SeMSy III Workstations 2.3 Warranty The terms and conditions valid at the signing of the contract shall apply. 5

7 4 Installation The SeMSy III installer setup installs all the necessary components on your system. A SeMSy III Failover Server gets its settings automatically by a SeMSy III Setup Server, which is administered by the software tool SeMSyConfig (see the documentation Configuration for SeMSy III SeMSyConfig ). Note before the start that administrator rights are required for installation. that a SeMSy III Setup Server has to be available and accessible over the network. Follow the steps below to install a SeMSy III Failover Server: ¾¾Close all running applications. ¾¾Start the SeMSy_III_Installerx.x.x.exe application. The Select Language dialog is displayed. Fig. 4-1 ¾¾Select the required option. ¾¾Click OK. 7

15 The ntp.conf file is displayed in a text editor. Fig ¾¾Edit the line #server : ¾¾Remove the # comment character and enter the host name or the IP address of the SeMSy III Setup Server to use as a backup either the local system time or the system time of SeMSy III Setup Server. ¾¾Save and close the ntp-conf file. The dialog for configuring the NTP service settings is displayed. Normally, the already activated settings in the dialog can be used. Fig ¾¾Click Next > to create a NTP service account. 15

The dialog for completion of the NTP installation is displayed. Fig ¾¾Confirm with Finish. The automatic installation of the required ActiveX *) component takes place. Fig

17 The system has to be restarted to complete the installation of the SeMSy III Failover Server. Fig ¾¾Confirm the reboot with OK. The installation of the SeMSy III Failover Server was performed. The SeMSy III Failover Server starts automatically after rebooting the system as Windows service. The SeMSy III Failover Server gets at the startup the configuration settings from the SeMSy III Setup Server, that has been specified at the installation. The additionally installed FailoverMngrClient application displays system-wide status information about the active failover recordings of a SeMSy III Failover Server. In addition, it is possible to manually trigger a failover for individual devices and to comprehensively evaluate failover events using the report function (see below). 17

18 5 Configuration The SeMSyConfig software tool is used to set up a failover system after the server components and client have been installed. In the SeMSy configuration application the required settings for encoder, OPC interface and SeMSy server are defined. The functions for manually triggering a failover and automatically sending a PGuard alarm on a failover event can also be activated in the configuration file of the failover server. 5.1 Encoders An encoder can be assigned to a specific failover pool and defined as a spare device. Due to the video channel based functionality of SeMSy III, the settings for a single encoder are automatically applied to all other encoders of the corresponding recording system. ¾¾Start the SeMSyConfig configuration application. ¾¾Open the Encoders directory and select the required encoder entry from a sub directory. ¾¾Select the Failover tab in the configuration area of the encoder: Fig. 5-1 ¾¾Enter the Pool ID, if required. ¾¾Enable the Spare checkbox to use the device as replacement, if required. ¾¾Finally, confirm the settings with Apply. 5.2 SeMSy OPC A failover system is activated via the corresponding server connection data for the OPC interface of the SeMSy system. ¾¾Start the SeMSyConfig configuration application. ¾¾Open the Ini Values directory and select the Dallmeier SeMSy OPC entry. 18

19 ¾¾Select the Failover tab in the configuration area: Fig. 5-2 ¾¾Activate the use of a failover system via the Enable Failover-System checkbox. ¾¾Enter the host name or IP address of the failover database server in the Hostname or IP of Failover-Webservice field. ¾¾Enter 3306 as the number for the database port in the Port of Failover-Webservice/Database field. ¾¾Activate the Query states directly via DB checkbox to display the device status in the Failover Manager Client. In the fields for the login data of the failover server (Username..., Password...) the default settings (Use Default) can normally be used. Also in the field for the database schema (Schema of Failover-Server) on the Failover (2) sub-tab: Fig. 5-3 ¾¾Finally, confirm the settings with Apply. 19

20 5.3 SeMSy Server A failover system is configured with the corresponding server connection data for a SeMSy III installation. ¾¾Start the SeMSyConfig configuration application. ¾¾Open the Ini Values directory and select the Dallmeier SeMSy Server entry. ¾¾Select the Failover tab in the configuration area: Fig. 5-4 ¾¾Activate the use of a failover system via the Enable Failover-System checkbox. ¾¾Enter the host name or IP address of the failover database server in the Hostname or IP of Failover-Webservice field. ¾¾Enter 3306 as the number for the database port in the Port of Failover-Webservice/Database field. In the fields for the login data of the failover server (Username..., Password...) the default settings (Use Default) can normally be used. The default value (1 second, Use Default) can also be used for the query interval of the device status update in seconds (Update Interval). 20

21 ¾¾Select the Failover (2) sub-tab. Fig. 5-5 ¾¾Enable the Query states directly via DB checkbox to display the device status in the Failover Manager Client. In the setting for the database schema (Schema of Failover-Server), the default setting (Use Default) can normally be used. ¾¾Finally, confirm the settings with Apply. 5.4 Report Function Failover events can be evaluated using an extensive reporting function in the Failover Manager Client. The service host required for this is defined in the Global Settings section of the SeMSyConfig configuration tool. ¾¾Start the SeMSyConfig configuration application. ¾¾Open the Global Settings directory and select the Failover Server tab. Fig

22 ¾¾Enter for the service_host Parameter the IP address of the corresponding failover server as Value. ¾¾Enter the required server port number 8282 for the service_port Parameter as Value. ¾¾Finally, confirm the settings with Apply. 5.5 Manual Failover The option to manually trigger a failover for individual recording systems in the Failover Manager Client can be set up in the config.xml file from the program data directory of the failover server installation. ¾¾Open the config.xml file from the C:\ ProgramData > Dallmeier > Failover > FailoverMngr directory in a text editor. ¾¾Select the <manualfailover> tag. Fig. 5-7 ¾¾Change the value of the enabled tag on true to activate the function. If the standard manual failover password (failover12345) is to be changed, proceed as follows: Fig. 5-8 ¾ ¾ Enter the new password in plain text as the value in the password tag and then set encrypt as an attribute with an empty value. 22

23 Note that there has to be a space between the password and the encrypt attribute. If this is not the case, the failover service does not start afterwards. ¾¾Save and close the config.xml file. The password entered initially in plain text is encrypted by the encrypt attribute the next time the failover service is started and can therefore no longer be read in the config.xml file. 5.6 PGuard Alarm When a failover event is triggered, a PGuard alarm can be generated which is evaluated on a SeMSy III workstation in the corresponding PGuard module. This function is enabled in the config.xml file. ¾¾Open the config.xml file from the C:\ ProgramData > Dallmeier > Failover > FailoverMngr directory in a text editor. ¾¾Select the <pguardinterface> tag. Fig. 5-9 ¾¾Change the value of the enabled tag on true to activate the function. ¾¾Enter the IP address of the PGuard server as the value in the host tag. ¾¾Enter the required sub alarm ID (default: 10100) as the value of the subalarmid tag. ¾¾Save and close the config.xml file. Note that the PGuard Interface has to be also installed on the PGuard server. The required installation file can be requested from Dallmeier support. 23

24 6 Failover Manager Client The Failover Manager Client application provides an overview of the current failover status of a SeMSy system. It is also possible to manually trigger a failover for individual devices via the client. In addition, an extensive reporting function is available for evaluating past failover events. ¾¾Start the appliaction via the FailoverMngrClient file from the C:\ Programme (x86) > Dallmeier > SeMSyIII > FailoverServer > FailoverManager directory. The Failover Manager Client dialog shows the Status tab after start up, which displays the current activities of the Primary devices and Spare devices: Fig Trigger Manual Failover If manual triggering has been configured for the failover system (see section Manual Failover on page 22), a manual failover can be started for individual devices on the Status tab. Fig. 6-2 ¾ ¾ Right-click the required device in the Primary devices column and select Start Manual Failover in the displayed context dialog. 24

25 Fig. 6-3 ¾¾Enter the password (default password: failover12345, see section Manual Failover on page 22 to change the default password) and confirm with OK. The status of the primary device changes to orange the spare device immediately takes over the tasks. in the Connected column and Fig. 6-4 ¾¾Confirm the following info dialog. A manual failover remains active for a device until it is manually stopped again (see below). 25

26 Fig. 6-5 ¾¾To exit, right-click the required device in the Primary devices column and select Stop Manual Failover in the displayed context dialog. ¾¾Enter the failover password and confirm the following info dialog. The manual failover process is terminated and the primary device resumes the recording process. 6.2 Using the Report Function Failover events of a system are logged and can be comprehensively evaluated on the Report tab. ¾¾Select the Report tab. Fig. 6-6 ¾¾Select Server and / or Recorder, if required. ¾¾Set an Event Date / Time, if required. ¾¾Start the query with Refresh. ¾¾Click Export to export the results in a CSV file, if required. 26
