1 Phoenix Install 4m 12/12 Place Instrument Change in Progress sign on console Follow instructions for removing the cage bottom Once removed, add or remove the appropriate rocket weights If necessary, follow instructions for installing the rotator and guider If the interface is not already attached to Phoenix attach it to the instrument first In the coude room, remove the stabilizing blocks holding the interface to the plate Loop three lifting straps through the holes in the vertical pieces on the interface (as seen above) and attach them to the jib crane Raise the interface with the crane and roll the cart out of the way Remove the top nut washer pair from the 11 threaded studs atop Phoenix Remove the light port cover from the top of Phoenix

2 Turn off the compressors running the Phoenix cooling, located on the control room floor In the coude room Turn off the motor controller Turn off the Electronics box Disconnect the He lines from the wall NOTE: After disconnecting the lines you have 1 hour to install the instrument and hook the lines back up Remove the He lines from Phoenix so the side of the cart can be removed once Phoenix is attached to the telescope Disconnect the power, fibers and the ethernet cable If the interface is not attached to Phoenix move Phoenix under the interface Make sure to line Phoenix up in the proper N-S direction and in the proper holes for the 4m Two of the 4 tabs on the top of the interface are marked, one N-4m and one S-4m Line the bird on Phoenix up with the S-4m tab Line the interface up so the 4m holes line up with the threaded studs on Phoenix Place the foam ring on top of Phoenix

3 Use the crane to lower the interface onto Phoenix Reattach the washers and nuts Lower all the feet on the underside of the interface until they contact Phoenix Remove the lifting straps from the interface Wheel Phoenix onto the instrument lift and line up with the Phoenix marks on the floor Remove the bolts that have been placed through the holes on the top of the interface Remove the red cover off the top of the interface

4 Raise the lift Attach Phoenix to the telescope, noting the proper N direction for the 4m If need be, use the jack on the cart, until the interface is flush with the telescope If used, lower the Phoenix jack Remove the cart railing on the west side Connect the He lines Plug in the two AC power cords Make sure the motor control box is turned off Lower the platform On the control room level, turn on one of the compressors Follow the instructions for attaching the cage bottom While doing so, turn on the motor control power Plug in the private network cable Hook up the Phoenix fiber bundle Hook up the two cables to the interface If Phoenix was at the 2m prior to 4m installation, the cables will be secured on the S side of the instrument and have to be unsecured and moved to the N side to plug them in Turn on the electronics box Plug in the Phoenix video power and video, on the W side of the instrument, to ICCD 2 on the rotator cable bridge patch panel Hook up the exhaust hose Hook up the N2 line Install the refocusing lens on the north port camera Install the refocusing lens on the guide camera

5 If necessary, follow the instructions for doing a secondary flip from F/8 to PF While at the SE Annex Hook up the pedestal focus handpaddle inside the PF cage Move the pedestal focus all the way out On the flip panel the minor flip ready will now light up Press and hold the F/12 button until the mirror is all the way in place Switch the vacuum from F/8 to F/12

6 Hook up all the cables in box 1 on the ring, except J2

7 Return the telescope to zenith Follow instructions for balancing the telescope In the computer room, switch the fibers from the coude connection to the telescope wildfire connection
