This new Emulex expansion card connects to the PCI-X bus, and provides access to the Legacy Switch Modules 3 and 4. 2 Features and benefits: It integrates the SAN fabric to simplify deployment/management and help reduce infrastructure complexity and total cost of ownership. It provides interoperability with FCSW2-compliant SANs. It leverages the leadership capabilities of our BladeCenter Alliance. BladeCenter leads the industry in delivering integrated fabric switching to the blade server environment. Integrated fabric switching eases deployment, simplifies the data center, reduces cabling and optical transceivers (SFPs), and lowers costs. BladeCenter clients have the flexibility to choose from a variety of SAN switch vendor's architectures. The BladeCenter SAN switch module portfolio now includes QLogic, Brocade, Cisco and McDATA. Each BladeCenter server provides redundant connections to data and storage networks. Clients can configure their blade servers with dual port host bus adapters and be assured that they will always have a connection to their Storage Area Network (SAN) via BladeCenter's high availability midplane. Through integration, BladeCenter eliminates the fiber cables from the server to the switch. This not only reduces the opportunity for misconfiguration, it lowers the expense for cables and optical transceivers (SFPs), and reduces potential points of failure, while increasing network availability. One port from the expansion card is wired via the midplane to one I/O module bay, while the other port is wired to a second I/O module bay to provide redundancy against a single point of failure.
