The LR24 Relay Card gives the KDA the ability to operate an additional 24 Control Points with latching relay contacts. Addition of the LR24 Relay Card to the KDA gives it a total of 32 Control Points. Fig.1-LR24Relay Card fits in KDA Expansion Slot Downloadable Configuration The Relay Card can be configured for point description and latching or momentary operation. All configuration data for the LR24 Relay Card is entered via the same downloading software used to program the host KDA. Downloading can be done locally at the KDA s front panel connector or remotely via a dial-up modem. Configuration data is held in non-volatile memory to survive loss-of-power. Magnetic-Latching Relays Because they are magnetic-latching, the relays maintain their positions upon loss of power. A second set of contacts on each relay is used to report position to the front panel LEDs and back to the host T/MonXM or IAM, giving a true indication of operation. Relay position is reported as alarm status points 1-24, respectively on the same address and display assigned to the LR-24 control points. Connectorized Rear Panel The KDA is available in a connectorized model to simplify and speed installation. Connectorized KDA s can be ordered with a 50 pin Amphenol connector installed for the LR24 Relay Card. A connectorized version can also be ordered with a universal expansion card panel consisting of 8 DB9 connectors the will interface all currently available expansion cards. (See the KDA manual for ordering information.) Connectorization is a factory upgrade only. KDA Smarts Since the relay card is an expansion card for the KDA, it inherits all of the powerful features of the host KDA. For example, if the KDA is set to have alternate path, (dial up modem in case of dedicated path failure), then the relay card will have the same capabilities. NOTE: Since the Relay Card communicates through the KDA, the relay status will be reported to the interrogating master using the same protocol as the KDA. Software Version Notice The relay card requires T/KDA version 2.1 or later for configuration. T/MonXM software version 2.2f or later is required to operate the relays. D-PC A-00 1 OG-LR24-010

2 T/MonXM FA MODE A B Local and Remote Monitoring The same program and computer used for configuration may also be used for local monitoring and operation of the control points, allowing on-site testing of all relays. Remote monitoring and operation may likewise be performed via dial-up access. T/Mon Compatibility The relay card is compatible with T/MonXM WorkStation alarm master or the IAM (Intelligent Alarm Mediator). The software in these high level master stations allows you to: 1. Operate Control Points manually, 2. Send derived control commands based on alarms present, 3. Maintain point operation history, 4. Have multiple users access the system. Typical Relay Applications The relay outputs are A form (Normally Open) contacts. Any device that can be activated by a contact closure Fig. 3 shows a typical relay application to T/MonXM via dedicated line with dial back up. Shipping List Verify that the following were included with the Relay Card: LR24 Relay Card Operation Guide (This Manual) Spare Fuse Registration Card* T/KDA Software* *Normally the relay card is shipped installed in the host KDA. FA Off Fuse OK FA Red Fuse Blown Button Mode Fuse & Indicators FA MODE A B Fig.4-LR24Front Panel Button Function Table Function The Mode button has no function on the current version of the Relay Card. The front panel contains an easily accessible fuse. This fuse is independent of the fuse on the main KDA unit. The relay card has two different ways of reporting a blown fuse. The first is a red LED on the front panel which turns on KDA-J2 KDA-J3 X DPS INC. when the fuse is blown to allow the local personnel to quickly isolate the unit. The second method of notification is relay contact closure that can be wired into a local alarm device to notify on site personnel that the fuse is blown. NOTE:It is recommended that the expansion card fuse alarm be paralleled to the host KDA s fuse alarm. If either fuse fails, the local alarm will sound. The polling master will generate a communications failure alarm when the host or the expansion card fail to respond to polling. Refer to the connector pin layout drawings and tables for the fuse alarm output pin numbers. Fig. 5 shows how the fuse alarm is wired to the KDA. On a connectorized KDA the wiring is factory installed. Configuration Software The relay card is configured using T/KDA, which is a non-copy protected software that is supplied with each KDA or Relay card. This software is DOS based and can be used to create, maintain, download and upload provisioning data along with monitoring and controlling relay status. The configuration downloaded to the relay card is stored in non volatile memory (nvram) so the information will not be lost in the case of a power outage. T/KDA version 2.0d or later is required to support the LR24 Relay Card. NOTE 3: If the relay card is being added to an existing KDA with T/KDA software earlier than version 2.0d, contact DPS customer support to arrange a firmware upgrade for the KDA. It may be necessary to return the KDA board to the factory for the upgrade. Edit Expansion Ports Overall directions for the use of T/KDA software are found in the KDA manual. Follow those directions with the exception of the Edit Expansion Ports section. Use the following directions to define the expansion port for the relay card: The Edit Expansion Ports option is used when the KDA Expansion Slot is equipped with a TBOS, Analog or Relay Card. Satellite KDA s may not be equipped with an expansion card at the present time. The current version of T/KDA supports both the 4 and 8 Port TBOS cards as well as the analog and relay card. Important: All configuration data must be saved by using the F8 key in order for them to become effective. Using the F10 key will exit without saving. Press F1 to enter descriptions and other data for the status report. Archiving and other features of alarm reporting will be valid, if defined. Otherwise, control point operation will generate undefined alarms. Refer to the File Maintenance Section in the T/MonXM Manual. The control points on the LR24 can be defined as site controls, labeled controls or both. In the Control Point Definition Screen for either type of control, the channel (Ch) field must be RP and the address (Add) must be the virtual address. In the example shown in Fig. 17 the channel entry is RP and the virtual address entry is 3, the same as that shown in Fig. 16. Enter all other fields per the instructions in the T/MonXM Manual. Points 1-24 are valid. Test Procedure After completing installation of the relay card in a KDA host test the unit as follows: 1. Exercise all relays.
