1 BEFORE THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA Southern California Edison Company s (U 338- E) Application for Approval of Advanced Metering Infrastructure Deployment Activities and Cost Recovery Mechanism A (Filed July 31, 2007) NOTICE OF EX PARTE COMMUNICATION OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY (U 338-E) Pursuant to Rule 8.3 of the Rules of Practice and Procedure of the California Public Utilities Commission ( Commission ), Southern California Edison Company (SCE) hereby gives notice of the following ex parte communication related to the above referenced proceeding. On Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at approximately 1:40 p.m., Michael R. Montoya, SCE s Director of Engineering Advancement, made a presentation on the smart grid as part of a panel of speakers at a California Energy Commission public workshop on load management standards, at which California Public Utilities Commissioner Chong was in attendance. Mr. Montoya s presentation is attached hereto. Mr. Montoya also responded to a question from California Energy Commissioner Pfannenstiel on whether SCE had taken the smart grid into consideration in developing its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) communications strategy. Mr. Montoya indicated that SCE had done so, and is working toward taking advantage of the infrastructure. 1
