13 *NOTE: Concurrent with the Exhibitor Showcase, there will be a Splicing Challenge. Participants will be timed on completing 6 fusion splices. Timing will start at the striping of the first fiber and stop when the last splice hits the heater. Participants will follow the strip, clean, and cleave process. Participants that skip any steps will need to restart the challenge. Times will be recorded. The top three times will be on a Leader Board. The top three times of the day will win prizes. The participant with the top time will be announced as the 2019 Spring Symposium Fusion Splicing Champion. Participants many also try out their OTDR skills in an OTDR Challenge as they wait their turn for the Fusion Splicing Challenge. Participants will use an OTDR to identify events, be asked to take measurements of events, and determine locations of events of a simulated fiber optic network. Participants will be judged on accuracy. Participants with accurate answers will be entered to win a prize to be drawn at the end of the challenge. DRAFT Page 13 of 13
