Cooling strategies. Aisle containment. An economical solution to improve the performance of any cooling system. Benefits Increased airstream management Supply air and return air do not mix Uniform distribution of cold air Higher delta T for increased efficiency Modular, scalable, and retrofittable Can be used with perimeter-based cooling Can be used with row-based cooling 4
Cooling strategies. Aisle containment. An economical solution to improve the performance of any cooling system. When to use aisle containment Issues with bypass air Issues with hot air recirculation Issues with hot spots Issues with uneven cold air distribution Issues with maximum cooling capacity * Image from 42U.com 5
Cooling strategies. Aisle containment. Hot and cold air distribution with and without containment. 6
Cooling strategies. Aisle containment. An economical solution to improve the performance of any cooling system. Why aisle containment works Prevents hot and cold air from mixing Higher supply air temperatures Increased energy savings! Increased economizer hours Increased energy savings! Increased cooling efficiency Increased energy savings! 7
Cooling strategies. Aisle containment. An economical solution to improve the performance of any cooling system. Cold aisle containment benefits Precise, targeted cooling Consistent air temperature Eliminates hot spots No raised floor required Minimal infrastructure requirements Creates easy retrofit installations Using only doors shows increased efficiency Prevents end of row recirculation 8
Cooling strategies. Aisle containment. An economical solution to improve the performance of any cooling system. Hot aisle containment benefits Work environment is flooded with cold air Hot air can be ducted back to CRAC Increased efficiency Consistent air temperature Eliminates hot spots * Image from 42U.com 9
