1 THIS SLIDE NOT PART OF PRESENTATION. Abstract: The Ohio Department of Transportation initiated the Roadway Information Management System (RIMS) as a multiphase project to upgrade the architecture, software, and provision of LRS and road inventory data to the enterprise. The strategy behind the phased multiyear approach should allow the components of the project to build off of one another in a manner such that critical business processes and data reporting requirements could be maintained. While only partly through the effort, several lessons have been learned while implementing new software (Esri Roads & Highways), migrating data architecture (normalized table structures), and integrating other enterprise systems (Traffic, Assets, Crashes). Bring your favorite sports drink and come hear the details of how this sometimes rewarding and sometimes grueling LRS marathon experience is going.

13 The Blisters Thus Far Along the Journey 1. Evolving software fitness Software is enhancing usability and functions 2. The unexpected race encounter Unusual project risks 3. Schedule hurdles Once a year opportunities, data & system obligations 4. A different pair of running shoes Different software and approach (3 systems) 5. Multiple co dependent & inter related races Acronym soup: RIMS, TMMS, HPMS, BTRS, TIMS, LBRS, etc. 13
14 Race Tips for Others Define the finish line and intermediate mile points Do a 5k before Pilot efforts and iterations will improve success. Cheer loudly let your pain points and ideas for improvement be heard Training is key to improve readiness, & reduce the number of steps (clicks) Know that once the race is finished, the work is just beginning This is not a sprint keep calm and keep running
