1 Guidelines for the print data preparation For the production of printed products of a sophisticated quality, you should already take some technical settings into account in the data preparation. We will be pleased to assist you. In these guidelines, we have compiled the current specifications with regard to print data creation on the basis of various ISO standards. Setting files for the PDF export from conventional layout programs can be found in the download area of our Internet site The basis for the data handover is the respectively current version of the media standard Print (bvdm.) 2 Separation and test print parameters Please create your colour templates pursuant to the current standards of the process standard for offset print. Please select the target colour space depending on the circulation paper (see table below). As a fundamental principle, the specifications of the respectively valid media standard ( Downloads) apply. If you should be uncertain with regard to the paper category, we will be pleased to advise you. The standard exposure at Körner Druck is done in a 60 screen with a resolution of 2400 dpi, pursuant to ISO The dot shape is elliptical. The screen angles are: C = 75, M = 135, Y = 0, K = 15. 3 Digital data preparation In order to achieve a smooth transfer of data without any technical problems and conflicts with licence and usage rights, we have summarised the most important points for you. Data format The ideal data format for the data handover is PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4 (ISO 15930). With productions with nonperiodic (FM) or fine grids please ensure that the image resolution is not reduced (switch off down sampling) and do not used any high-loss compressions (e.g. JPEG). Please agree the delivery of other file formats and PDF versions with the order manager responsible for you. PDF files can only be processed as composite. For the correct positioning of the pages on the print sheet, trim marks and the PDF frame end format and bleed frame are essential. Bleed difference: 3 mm The delivery of individual pages compared to double pages (montage areas) or multi-page documents makes replacing pages easier in the correction phase, as only the page with the corrections has to be replaced. The effort required for correction is thus reduced and the production reliability increased. Dateinamen Please select the file names according to our naming convention. 9999_EXAMPLE_001_DE stands for our Order_number_Customer_abbreviation_Page number_version code. If you use other file names, please avoid mutated vowels, punctuation marks and special characters. Instead of spaces, please use an underscore as shown in our example. Your order manager would be pleased to tell you the order number. Image format The colour space for all images and elements is CMYK. Screening settings are overwritten. Please agree the use of special colours and the process with alternating version with the order manager responsible for you. The necessary image resolution is based on the screening width in which the printing is to be done (see box below). As a standard feature, the settings for spaces and overprinting will be adopted from the PDF file. Trappings are carried out by us. If trappings already exist in your data, please let us know. Image resolution = screening width in lines/cm x 2,54 = screening width in lines/ Inch x screening width in lines (1,5 to 2) = Image resolution in ppi (Pixel per Inch) Example: 60 screen x 2,54 = 152,4 l/inch x 2 = 304,8 ppi Image resolution Page 3

4 Fonts/Layout Fonts Please only use Type 1 Postscript, TruType or Open Type fonts, no Multiple Master fonts. Embed the fonts in full, without sub-groups, in the PDF file. The forwarding of fonts with open documents from layout programmes mostly breaches the licence and usage rights of the font manufacturers. Layout Please delete unnecessary pages, elements and colours. Please note that all colours that are to appear on the same colour extract are identical in the colour definition, name and spelling. Please do not use any hair lines. Line strengths for positive lines should be at least 0.1 mm, and for negative or colour lines at least 0.4 mm. For small font sizes and fine fonts the same restrictions apply as for fine lines. With orders with version changes please supply your data in separate PDF files for basic and changing elements to avoid any status or register problems. These separate documents are position in levels over one another at our company and issued together for the respective version. Ideally, you already work in your layout program with the levels function which also simplifies your own data handling. A key benefit of this approach is that the basic pages which usually contain the pictures requiring the most memory, only have to be created once. In particular the dispatch of pages with text changes is considerably accelerated as the large data volumes of the images do not have to be resent. Page 4

5 Data handover/ digital test print Data handover Please conduct a careful check of output with regard to functionality, completeness and correctness with regard to material and content of the data and data media supplied. The data delivered to us will be processed pursuant to the specifications described in these guidelines. For problems that arises from inattentiveness or errors of the data supplier, we cannot assume any responsibility. Please mark data and data media clearly and enclose a printout of the content. Together with your data, please provide us with templates of binding status and colour that reflect the latest status of correction. Please never send us your original data or data media but please always use a copy. Four weeks after the date of delivery, your data will be deleted from our servers. If subsequent usage of the data is planned for a further production, please let us know. You can also send us smaller data volumes as a file attachment to an . For larger data packages, we would be pleased to set up access on our WebShare server for you and send you the necessary access data. If you require such access, please ask your order manager. We can receive data here with a line capacity of 155 Mbit; however, the transmission rate also depends on the capacity that your provider offers you. The access to our server is protected via a firewall. In addition, the access is protected by user log-in and password so that no unauthorised person can access your directories and data on our system. Please inform the order manager responsible for you when you send data to us. Your data transmission can thus be assigned quickly and reliably to the right order. Test print / Data test For each page, please supply a digital test print pursuant to the specifications of the ISO including UGRA/FOGRA media wedge CMYK/V3.0. Please send us test data and the relevant digital test prints in good time before the start of production: these should include all the relevant elements for production. This helps to ideally coordinate the data handover. If you have any technical questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.
