2 1. General instructions Pages 1. Text etc. may not be closer than 4 mm to the trimming (see the picture) 2. The bleed in pictures and tones has to be 4 mm 3. The register and trimming marks must be in line with trimmed format and outside of the trimming area and may not extent 3 mm closer to the trimming. 4. 3 2. Reproduction, proofing The requirements for the repro material 1. All elements have to be defined in the CMYK colourspace. 2. Resolution - Images 304,8 dpi (12 px/mm) - Graphics and text 1200 dpi 3. The smallest usable character size - Positive: 6 points - Negative: 8 points in bold Pics 304,8 dpi G&T 1200 Positive Negative 4. All black text and graphics have to be overprinting. 5. The finest usable line size - single color positive or negative 0,3 mm - negative in 2-4 -color material 0,4 mm 6. "Deep" black in large solid tones - to achieve deep solid black you have to have min. 50% cyan tint in an area which is slightly smaller than the actual black area. Must not be used for text. The characteristics of the printing process at Helprint 1. Helprint is a rotogravure printer. Our printing process is adjusted to match European PSR V2 gravure standard (Process Standard Rotogravure). Colour separation (RGB-to-CMYK conversion) should be performed with PSR V2 profiles. Proofs must be printed according to this standard in order to match the printing result correctly. Information about the PSR V2 standard is available on ECI website: 2. The printing paper quality has major influence to the way how the colour separations must be generated and how the pictures must be adjusted. Before beginning with the repro work the customer should contact Helprint customer service, so that we can suggest the correct ICC profile for the product and check other possible technical details. 4. If you are a new customer we recommend that you prepare few test pages and send the over to Helprint for inspection and testing. This way we can ensure that the files are technically correct (= no ripping problems), and if there are any problems we can work together and fix them before the actual production. Quality proofs 1. When printing high quality 4-colour products we must be delivered quality proofs, which are accepted by the customer. These acceptance proofs (or contract proofs) will be then used as the colour model for the printing process for the colour accuracy, page layout and overprinting issues. 2. The acceptance proofs must be printed from the final corrected page material. 3. The proofing standard used must be shown in the proofs (MF, SC, LWC, etc.). Data vs. proof differencies If the content of the page data files differs from the supplied proofs, we assume the data being correct. It is a common practice that there can be changes in the page content after approval of the colour proofs. We always use for printing the last data we have received before the agreed deadline of the data supply.

5 3. Requirements for the digital page material Page files 1. Print only one page or spread per one file (e.g. PDF). 2. The page size and the trimming have to be the same on every page of the material. We recommend to print out the pages with space for the technical symbols as follows: - the page size should be 10 mm larger on every side of the page than the trimmed size of the page (see the picture in page 2 of this document) - place the trimming marks, scales, bleed and cutting marks in this white area 3. The orientation of the pages has to be standing, so called repro orientation. 4. Scaling 100% File formats We accept the following file formats: PDF versions 1.3 ja 1.4 Ripped data (CT + LW) CT files 12 pix/mm (304,8 dpi) LW files 36 tai 72 pix/mm CT+LW 12 pix/mm TIFF, TIFF/IT, TIFF/IT P1 JPEG (high quality) Notice! We do not accept any document formats. For example, Adobe InDesign, Quark Express, PageMaker, FreeHand, etc.

7 4. Data transmission, media FTP Helprint has two FTP servers. Their addresses are: ftp.helprint.fi ftp2.helprint.fi Requirements for file transfer using FTP: An account with username and password is created (= no anonymous FTP) Please contact our customer service for an account Accepted file systems and media DVD ISO formatted CD ISO formatted Compression File compression is usually not necessary for saving on physical media or file transfer. If necessary, you should use ZIP compression.

8 5. Contact persons, Delivery address Our contact persons The customer s repro should contact us to check the data specification and to possibly make some tests before starting to do the repro work. We would appreciate to be informed when ever sending us any material whether the material is delivered by mail, courier or by means of digital data transmission. Please enclose the contact information of the sending company with the name of your contact person for the job in the parcel.

Flexo printing specification The specification for flexo printing at Helprint The flexo printing at Helprint comprehends printing changing information with single color (black) e.q. a dealer logo and address into the product. Flexo printing material must meet the following requirements to be acceptable for us. If not, this has to be agreed in beforehand. Otherwise this may lead to extra cost work. Instructions to follow: 1. The material has to be in right size ( 1:1 ) 2. The smallest usable text size is 10 points. 3. If the material consists of other than text, it should be rasterised in 30 lines/cm. 4. The logo etc. may not be closer than 20 mm to the trimming. 5. The material can be delivered as: Offset-rasterised negafilms with emulsion on the readable side. or As digital in Adobe PDF format (Grayscale), papersize set to A4. Notice! Dealer information have to be clearly identified within the flexo material.

10 7. Additional services By customer request Low resolution preview files on our FTP server It is possible to generate lowres softproofs of the ripped page data and place them on Helprint's FTP server in customer's directory. These softproofs represent the page content to be engraved and printed, and can be used for the final check and approval. Image colours in the softproofs are not colour accurate. This service has to be agreed on before the supply of the printing data by the customer. Data corrections in our prepress Normally all the customer corrections have to be finalized in the customer repro. However we have a possibility to make some last minute changes in the page data in our page preparation department. The workflow in this department include preflight, ripping, and preparation of the page data into the engraving data. The corrections that we can make can be only corrections to the ripped pixel data and this will be done with Adobe Photoshop. In any case the corrections have to be made by customer request and with final customer acceptance for the edited page data. This service is mostly used when ever we are tight in timetables and the customer can not have correction service from their repro e.g. during off office hours. End of document.
