2 1 Getting started Ebook Clicking on this link opens an interactive PDF of the Coursebook contents pages in a new window. From the contents pages, you can click through to any of the chapters. Within each chapter you can click on any of the CD-ROM links to open the associated animation, application or self-test. 2 Resources for book chapters You can click through to a page for each chapter where the associated resources are listed. These are the answers to the questions, the revision checklist, and all the interactive materials that are also accessible through the ebook. 3 Options Leads to a page where you can find all the Options chapters as well as the answers to the questions in those chapters. 4 Guidance on the internal assessment Opens a PDF with information on how to tackle the various aspects of the internal assessment. 5 Breadcrumb trail The links in the breadcrumb trail will help you to navigate your way through the CD-ROM interface. 6 Weblinks Links to the Cambridge University Press Education website and the International Baccalaureate website. 7 Periodic table Opens a PDF of the periodic table for you to use as a reference. 8 Help notes Opens the PDF you are reading now. 3 2 Software requirements The files on this CD-ROM are provided as-is and we cannot provide support for queries related to the underlying software. Interface The CD-ROM interface is in HTML format and will run in your default browser. Mac users are advised to use Firefox rather than Safari to browse the CD-ROM interface. The use of Safari may results in extra steps being required to open files beyond those in these instructions. Either right-click or ctrl-click the Home.htm file and choose Open with to open in Firefox. You can download Firefox at PDF Many of the files on this CD-ROM are in PDF format. Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat are recommended for viewing these files. You can download Adobe Reader at: Mac users should make sure that they open the ebook PDFs in Adobe Reader and not Preview, because Preview does not support the interactive features of these files. To ensure that Adobe Reader and not Preview is used, select a PDF file in a Finder window and choose Get info from the File menu. In the popup window that opens, view the Open section and choose Adobe Reader from the dropdown menu, then click Change all. The ebook PDFs of the Coursebook pages are not printable as you already have these pages in your Coursebook. All other PDF files are printable. Excel All applications and some of the self-tests on this CD-ROM are in Microsoft Excel format. These files may not work properly using software other than Microsoft Office for Windows, version 97 or later. In particular, versions of Excel without full Visual Basic support (including some versions of Office for OSX) may not provide full functionality. PowerPoint You will need Microsoft PowerPoint to run the Titrations presentation in Chapter 1. Flash The animations and most of the self-tests require Flash Player to run. You can download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player at: Cambridge University Press

4 3 Ebook In the ebook contents you can click on any of the chapter headings to open the PDF of that chapter. In each chapter, you can click on the links next to the CD-ROM icons in the design to open the relevant animation, application or self-test. The route to animation 1 in Chapter 6 is illustrated here: Cambridge University Press

5 You can improve how you browse through the ebook by changing the following settings in Adobe Reader or Acrobat. In the Edit menu, select Preferences..., In the Preferences window, select Internet in the categories column on the left hand side. Uncheck the top option Display PDF in browser. The contents page will now open in your PDF reader rather than in a new browser window. You can now also click on the section headings in the contents listing to open the chapter PDF on the page where that heading appears. Also, the chapter PDF will open in a new window rather than in the same browser window as the contents. Cambridge University Press

6 4 Resources for book chapters This screen contains a link for each chapter, which takes you through to a screen containing the relevant resources for that chapter. The top three links are always to the answers to the test yourself questions, the answers to the exam-style questions and the revision checklist. The other links are to the same resources as are accessible through the links in the ebook. Cambridge University Press

7 5 Options Each link on the Options screen opens a PDF with the relevant content. 6 Exiting the program You can exit this program at any time simply by closing the browser window. Cambridge University Press
