2 1. Locate my asset 1.1. Poll Asset via Verifind Web site. Once logged in, select the map backdrop you wish to use: LINZ (property boundary info) or GOOGLE MAPS(Satellite imagery): Google Maps: Double click on the Locator icon to centre the Locator on the page, then slide the slider on the
3 left up or down as required to zoom in and out respectfully. Click On Satellite to view satellite imagery, or Hybrid to view Satellite imagery with map overlay. Hover cursor over or click on the Asset tag (teardrop) to view detailed information on the selected position report. IMPORTANT: Pay special attention to the position time as this may differ from the reported time (when the Asset is unable to obtain a GPS fix such as when it is indoors it will report back its last known position), and to any warnings listed against the position and time. LINZ Map: i) Select Asset from Dropdown and click Find Asset. ii) Wait until the 1 unit polled awaiting response message changes to 0 units polled awaiting response. iii) Alternatively, if you wish to receive SMS txt and/or notification of the Poll result tick the appropriate boxes first; results will be sent to the mobile number/address entered against your username in the User Admin page v iv ii i iii
4 iv) Click on + icon at top right of map v) On the map, hold the left mouse button down and draw a box around the area which you would like to become the new map border. To zoom out click on the icon and click on the centre of the map page. Hover cursor over or click on the Asset tag (red dot or arrow) to view detailed information on the selected position report Poll Asset via SMS Note: Only Users who have their mobile phone number set up in the User Admin section may request locations for an Asset assigned to them via SMS txt. FOR VODAFONE MOBILE USERS: To request a location txt POLL [UNIT ID] to e.g. if the Asset was called Truck 1 txt POLL TRUCK 1 to An acknowledgement txt should be received within 5-30 seconds, followed by the actual Poll result anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes later. If the Locator is outdoors the result will come in quicker (normally between 30 seconds and 2 minutes), whereas if it is indoors it will take longer (normally between 5 and 10 minutes), because the Locator takes more time to realise that it is indoors before reverting to sending the last known location. If a Poll result has not arrived within 10 minutes this would normally mean that the delay is being caused by the Vodafone Network or there is insufficient credit or Credits available to complete the request. Note: Re-txting the Poll request will NOT speed up the process of returning a result View movement history: Google Maps & LINZ Map. To view the movements of a locator for any given period click the relevant button to see all the position reports on the map for the timeframe selected. Today Yesterday Last 7 Days Date Range : Show all movements for today.: From 12am to present time. : Show all movements for yesterday. : Show all movements for the last 7 days. : Show all movements between selected date ranges.
5 View movement history: Locator History Page.. To view the movements of a locator for any given period select the asset from the Select Asset dropdown box. Click the relevant Report button to see all the position reports in text format for the timeframe selected
6 Field Date Time Asset Name Address Trigger Type Icon Speed Battery Report Type Comment Date report received. Time Report received Name of Locator Address at time of position report. If you click on the address you will be taken to the LINZ map showing you visually where the location of this report. Reason for report to be generated. Start/Stop Report: GPS unit has detected that the asset has started or stopped moving. Motion detected: Asset is in motion. Indicates whether the asset has stopped, accelerating, slowing down ath the time of report creation Speed at the time of report creation Indicates battery supply to unit. When unit connected to a vehicle supply will show 100%. If a battery pack is used, then the percentage of power left in the Battery pack. Indicates type of report. Ie Position, Status, Alert, Speeding, etc IMPORTANT: Pay special attention to the position time as this may differ from the reported time (when the Asset is unable to obtain a GPS fix such as when it is indoors it will report back its last known position or if the asset is out of GSM mobile netwok range.), and to any warnings listed against the position 1.4. Download movement history. If you wish to download the movement history then click on the Export to Excel button at the bottom of the Position Reports Table. All the reports in the table will downloaded in CSV format onto your computer.
7 2. Alerts & Sensors 2.1. Turn On/Off Alerts and Sensors. Alerts and sensors may be set for a Locator to notify you and other people in the Asset s Contacts list via or SMS when a predefined event is triggered. Events can include: - Heartbeat reporting failure. These Health Check position reports can be set to be sent either every 24 hours or every 7 days, which are then anticipated by the VeriFind server and if missed will notify you that there is a potential problem with the Locator). - Low battery or VAM disconnection. If the Locator is portable, a low battery notification will be sent as soon as the battery level drops below 20%. If the Locator is installed in a vehicle and powered externally, if the power is lost (e.g. due to a flat car battery or someone tampering with the Locator) a VAM disconnection report will be sent. - Motion. If the Locator is not meant to move, the Motion alert will notify you as soon at the Locator moves. - Geofence breach. Via the Geofencing page, the Locator can be set to send notifications whenever it enters and/or exits a predefined area or areas. - Speeding. The Locator can be set to send an alert with the speed details whenever it goes over a certain speed for a certain length of time. - Output Sensors. The Locator can be set to send notifications whenever one or more pre-wired sensors are triggered, such as car alarm, ignition start and stop, horn, airbag, etc. Custom solutions can also be designed around this feature such as crash reporting. - Input sensors (due to be released fourth quarter 2007). With input sensors, over the web or via SMS txt you may control certain vehicle functions remotely, such as performing a safe remote ignition start or kill (i.e. vehicle traveling less than 5 km/h), door lock/unlock, etc.
8 1)Goto Settings dropdown menu then select Alerts and Sensors 2) Select Group then Asset from dropdowns 3) Configure Notifications as required: select those which you want to turn on by ticking the respective boxes and choose from the dropdown how you would like to be notified (i.e. via , SMS, or both). Click edit to create or modify contact details. 4) Configure Sensors as required (Vehicles Only) IMPORTANT: Make sure to click the Save button to lock in any changes to Alerts settings IMPORTANT: Configuring and using Alerts costs 2 credits each time and requires that the Contacts details are entered correctly (click on Edit next to Contact 1 and Contact 2 to edit Contacts details). IMPORTANT: To turn off an alert that has been activated due to a trigger event, you need to go to the Alert Response page which is found on the Settings dropdown., 2.2. View history of Alerts.
9 To view a history of Alerts for a locator select a start and end date then click View History If you wish to download the history then click on the Export to Excel button at the bottom of the Report Table. All the reports in the table will downloaded in CSV format onto your computer 2.3. View my history of Ignition Alerts. Not currently supported. Future enhancement Alert Response. select the Asset to which the alert relates, then highlight the alert, and choose the desired Response ( Deactivate or Reset ), then click Send. If this is not done, the Alert will continue to be ed/sms txted which may become bothersome and in the case of SMS txt-ing costly. Note: If your trigger event is critical (e.g. car has been stolen) you may click Send Tracking Configuration which will turn on a constant tracking feature that will report the Locator s position up to every 22 seconds whilst it is moving. Please note however that activating this Tracking Configuration feature will rapidly use up any prepay balance you may have if you are operating on your own Pre-Pay plan with Vodafone. It does not cost anything other than the 2 credits to activate if you are using a VeriFind supplied SIM, although the feature may only be used once per year for a maximum of 24 hours at no charge, otherwise it costs 100 credits per day (24 hour period) to activate.
10 2.5. Configure my and SMS alerts..
11 1) Choose Settings link from Navigation options then select Reconfigure Locator 2) Select Group and Locator that you wish to reconfigure from dropdown lists then click Show Locator 3) Edit fields as required. 4) Save change by clicking Edit Locator. IMPORTANT: Select Battery Unit if the Locator is being/to be powered by 4xAA batteries, and VAM Unit if the Locator is being/to be powered by a vehicle battery or other constant power source via the VAM module. IMPORTANT: The address and mobile number entered against the Locator on the Reconfigure Locator page is where all Alerts will be sent. IMPORTANT: Communications Type should be set to GPRS only if VeriFind has supplied the Vodafone SIM card otherwise SMS only should be selected (i.e. you are supplying your own Pre-Pay SIM card from Vodafone). 3. Add, Remove users for my account. 1) Go to Settings link then User Admin. 2) Choose the group from first dropdown list you wish to add/move a user to 3) Choose User or select Add New User from second dropdown list 4) Fill in/amend User details fields 5) Click Add/Edit User to finish
12 IMPORTANT: The address and SMS number entered against a user is where all Poll request results will be sent. 4. Create, Remove & Manage my Geofence Create a Geofence. 1) Go to Settings, then select Configure Geofence 2) Follow the instructions at the top of the page 1 2 3
13 b a Delete a Geofence. First, remove all units from Geofence a) Click on unit then click Remove Unit from Geofence Button b) Once all units are removed. Click on the Geofence name and then click Felete Geofence Button 4.3. Modify a Geofence.
14 Add and remove Locators. Change the Notification Criteria. Ie Alert when entering or exiting Geofence or both. Modify & SMS notification contacts. 5. View History of SMS Credits used. Credits are optional and are used for setting alerts and sensors for the Locator, and for receiving alert notifications and poll requests via SMS txt to your nominated mobile phone(s). Receiving alerts or poll requests via is free. Credits are purchased in minimum packets of 25 at 60c+GST via the Account > Purchase Credits page. Note: All accounts receive 25 free Credits when first set up. - Each View Asset request made via the main map page where SMS is chosen will cost 1 credit and will send the position result by SMS to the mobile phone number of the user initiating the request. - Each Poll request made via SMS from an authorised user s mobile phone will cost 2 credits - Each Alert or Sensor that is set or unset and each Alert Notification sent via SMS to a registered Contact will cost 2 credits 5.1. View History of SMS Credits used. - To View Credits History and Balance go to the Account link then select Account Usage. Run report 5.2. Add Credits. - To Purchase Credits, Please contact Verifind on accounts@verifind.co.nz 5.3. View my Payment history. - To View Payment History go to the Account link then select Payment History. Run report
15 6. Find GPS Co-ordinates for an address. Use this function if you require the GPS co-ordinates of an address in New Zealand. Enter address details the click Find. 7. Trouble Shooting 7.1. If you have an unresponsive Locator, please in the first instance try the following: a) If you are operating a pre-pay SIM card, check that your pre-pay balance has sufficient credit for the Locator to operate; b) Clear your computer s cache by clicking CTRL+F5 as your internet settings may be storing and displaying old position reports and preventing new reports ones from being shown c) Check to see if there are any Alerts outstanding on the Alert Response page. It may be that the unit has lost power or has missed a heartbeat report recently and that you missed or did not receive the appropriate Alert/s via or SMS txt. d) Wait for minutes. Unless your location request is time critical, in which case you should contact VeriFind customer support, there may be a Vodafone network delay, or the Locator may be outside of Vodafone coverage. When coverage is restored, only then will position points will be reported. e) If you have tried all of the above to no avail then phone to receive VeriFind customer service assistance and report the issue, or else support@verifind.co.nz if you do not require immediate assistance 7.2. If your Locator is reporting positions, but not frequently enough (e.g. you are on extended plan B for every 60 seconds but only receiving positions every 5 or 10 minutes) then this may mean: a) The Locator has something surrounding it that is interfering with the GPS or communication signals, such as radio or electromagnetic interference or metal, or b) The Locator may be traveling in an area when or at a time where there is impaired Vodafone coverage, c) The Locator may have had an incorrect configuration provisioned to it (this would be a VeriFind administration fault) If you require assistance diagnosing any of the above, please call or support@verifind.co.nz
16 1. If your Locator is reporting incorrect or no position found addresses: a) Incorrect Reporting: a. The address should never be out by much (i.e. one or two doors way, or across the road). If the position is way out, like hundreds of meters or more, then this will either be an anomaly, or if it is happening regularly your Locator may not have a correct Almanac. An Almanac is the base set of geographical and time coordinates needed to calculate subsequent times and locations and is obtained when the Locator first powers up after being unpowered for an extended period of time, and may take up to 15 minutes to complete. The Locator uses its Almanac to calculate where it is and what time it is. If the Locator has lost power for longer than hours or moves a great distance without being able to see the sky (e.g. it is carried in luggage on an airplane) or it does not have sufficient time to gather an almanac with a clear sky view when first powered up, then the Almanac may be incorrect or incomplete, causing the position reports to be incorrect. Ensuring that the Locator has 15 minutes of clear sky view after powering up will eliminate an incorrect or incomplete Almanac as the problem. b) No position found reporting: a. Usually this means that the Locator has something preventing the Locator from getting a GPS fix such as metal obstructing its view of the sky (e.g. it is in a garage/indoors) in which case the most reliable position will be the last known one as reported in the Asset Status page. Since the Locator attempts to obtain a GPS fix every one or two seconds, the last known position is usually an entry point to a building. To view the last known position, go to the Reports navigation link, and choose Asset status, and view the history of the Locator. b. Another reason the Locator may report no position is that it is not at a known address in the LINZ mapping database, for instance the Locator is on a boat out at sea. In the case of the latter, you will need to revert to the Google map to view the Locator s position or use the geographic coordinates displayed in at the bottom left of your browser window. For further troubleshooting refer to the VeriFind Locator installation manual which can be downloaded from 8. Internet Explorer 8 and above mixed content error message From the release of internet explorer 8 onwards IE8 automatically displays an alert for mixed content. Previous versions of IE did not do this. When the message appears click NO. To permamnently stop this message appearing there are 2 options to pick from. The first is under Tools>Internet Options>Security>Internet>Custom level Scroll down to the the section labeled Miscellaneous. Now go to the section saying Display Mixed Content. Set to enabled.
17 Or, if you do not want to enable mixed content to all Internet sites you can do the following. 1. Tools>Internet Options>Security>trusted sites>sites 2. Add Press close. 4. Tools>Internet Options>Security>trusted sites>custom level 5. Set Display Mixed Content as above. 9. Self Installation of GPS unit.
