For thi olution, an integrated Celerra NS-12 tora ytem with 4 GB 1k rpm FC dik wa ued and configured for 1, Exchan 21 uer. Each of the 1, uer had a very heavy profile of.1 IOPS and a mailbox ize of 2 GB. Solution Decription Sizing and configuring tora for Exchan Server i a complicated proce, driven by many variable and factor, which vary with different organization. The izing approach taken in thi olution i bd on performance, capacity, calability, and reliability to meet and exceed the Microoft Exchan Server recommended metric. Thi olution utilize three copie of each Exchan datab. Two of thee copie are on the primary ite tora array. To provide additional protection, a third copy of each datab i placed on a econdary ite tora array. The tora in the primary ite i configured on two different helve of Celerra NS-12 with three RAID (4+1) group in each helf and the tora in the econdary ite i configured on a ingle helf of Celerra NS-12 with three RAID (4+1) group. Each RAID group hold one datab and the log for the next datab. That mean, the firt RAID group hold the log for the econd datab, the econd RAID group hold the log for the third datab and the third RAID group hold the log for the firt datab. Thi tora deign enure that each datab and it correponding log are in different RAID group. Thi tora deign can be followed by any organization to implement a Availability Group (DAG) configuration. A DAG i a et of mailbox erver that ue continuou replication to provide automatic recovery in the event of failure. 6 and log file. When three copie are ued within a DAG, EMC recommend that the third copy i placed on a eparate tora array. Thi will enure high availability within the ite and between two ite. If thi dik layout i properly configured, it will match Microoft Exchan Server recommendation of a well-performing ytem from both a dik capacity and end-uer perpective. The ESRP-Stora program focue on tora olution teting to addre performance and reliability iue with tora deign. However, tora i not the only factor to take into conideration when deigning a cale-up Exchan olution. Other factor that affect the erver calability are erver proceor utilization, phyical erver and virtual memory limitation, reource requirement for other application, directory and network ervice latencie, network infratructure limitation, replication and recovery requirement, and client ua profile. All thee factor are beyond the cope for ESRP-Stora. Therefore, the number of mailboxe hoted per erver a part of the teted configuration may not necearily be viable for ome cutomer deployment.
