1 Swann Security DVRx Alert Setup Guide This guide is for you to setup Alert for the DVRx Problem: You may experience not able to send alert from your DVRx-2500 to an address automatically when motion is detected on your computer. This is usually caused by misconfigured settings, your Internet Service Provider s SMTP (outgoing server) blocking your internet connection to send out s or your server rejecting the s. Solution: We can use Gmail s SMTP service (free service) to provide a secure and reliable outgoing service for your DVR. It is fully encrypted and secure through the use of Secure Socket Layer (SSL). For Gmail account setup in details, please refer to Appendix A for Gmail setup! PLEASE NOTE: WHILE THIS GUIDE DETAILS THE USE OF GMAIL WITH OUR DVR, UNDERSTAND THAT WE CANNOT GIVE SPECIFIC GMAIL SUPPORT BECAUSE IT IS A 3 RD PARTY APPLICATION. WE INCLUDE THE GMAIL GUIDE AS AN EXAMPLE OF CONFIGURING THE DVR WITH AN PROVIDER. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO USE GMAIL S SERVICE TO CONFIGURE THE DVR TO SEND S. UNFORTUNATELY, NOT ALL PROVIDERS WILL WORK WITH THE DVR, SO WE ALSO INCLUDE THE GMAIL GUIDE IN CASE YOU NEED A FALLBACK PROVIDER. 1 / 6

2 Setting up Alert on DVRx-2500 STEP 1 First of all, press the Menu button to go into Main Menu and choose DEVICES by using the navigation keys and press SELECT key. (as shown on the left) Fig. 1 STEP 2 Once you are in DEVICE MANAGEMENT, choose ALARM icon by using the navigation key and SELECT key. (as shown on the right) Fig. 2 2 / 6

3 STEP 3 Using the navigation key to select SETUP and press SELECT key. (as shown on the left) Fig. 3 STEP 4 This is the detail setup for settings. Use the navigation keys to move between the fields. If the field requires you to put in alphanumeric characters, you need to press the SELECT key twice on the intended field. Then an on-screen keyboard will appear. Using the navigation keys and SELECT key, enter in the relevant information. Once the intended field is complete, select the Enter icon within the on-screen keyboard to exit the on-screen keyboard. The settings needed on this screen are the settings from your Gmail account. Fig.4 3 / 6

4 STEP 5 Once you have completed the settings, they should appear similar to the figure shown on the left. With this example, the DVR will send out alerts from your Gmail address to abc@yahoo.com (which is the recipient s address). Fig. 5 Common Settings are shown below: ON SSL: ON SMTP PORT: SMTP: smtp.gmail.com After all the settings have been entered and checked, use the navigation key to choose APPLY and press the SELECT key to apply the settings. SEND your Gmail address SEND PW: your Gmail password RECV recipient address STEP 6 Once the settings have been applied, you should see a screen like the one on the right. Press the SELECT key again to clear the confirmation. Finally, use the navigation keys to choose EXIT and go back to the live screen. 5 APPENDIX A Setting up Gmail Account Advanced security make easy Sometimes your account cannot be used for sending motion alerts out from your DVR system automatically. This is usually because the system cannot process the correctly. You can use a free Gmail account as a post office to send out your alert s. Firstly, you will need to go to and setup an account. After you have setup your account, you can log in and get it ready to send out your s. From the main page, click Settings. 5 / 6

6 In Settings, follow this procedure: 1. Click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP. 2. Click on Enable POP for all Click on Save Changes. That s Gmail configured, now to set up the DVR to use Gmail as the sending account. Please copy down your Gmail address and password you have created for later use! 6 / 6
