HOW TO CONNECT TO TEAM SPEAK United Sim Army Teams (USAT) operates a Team Speak server for voice communication between members. It is a free download from You will need the client version. Our Team Speak server is protected and requires a password for Guest Users to join. This password changes every week. To find the weekly password, check at the bottom of Team Speak if you are registered. It will be bold and the third message line that comes up upon joining. Also, you can check on the website ( in the bottom capsule on the left hand side. When you join USAT, you will receive an that lists your login information for your registered account. An image of how your Connect to Server page should look is on the following page.

STEPS TO CONNECT Go to menu item "Connect". You will see the 1st listed item in the "Address Book" tab,, "Servers". Right click on "Servers", and choose "Add Server". For the Label and Server Address, specify "unitedsimarmy.us" or one of the Team addresses, such as 82nd.us. Do not put an IP address in the Server Address, as it might change. Label: unitedsimarmy.us Server Address: unitedsimarmy.us Nickname: (your assigned roster name) Uncheck Allowserver to assign a nickname Check Registered Nickname: (your assigned roster name) Login Name: (your assigned roster name) Password: (your password) Auto-Reconnect: Checked When you signed up, you should have received an giving you your roster name and the password you chose. The password for TeamSpeak is the same password you chose for the website.

TEAM SPEAK SETTINGS USING TEAM SPEAK It is best to use a headset with a muffled microphone, so that you can hear in game sounds, provide a clear voice to the microphone, and prevent background sounds and feedback. Do not use speakers and a microphone close by or use the "voice activation settings" to talk. Remember to turn off all programs that cause popups (such as Internet Explorer, anti-virus updates, AIM etc). SOUND OPTIONS On the Team Speak Menu, click "Settings", and then "Sound and Input Settings." Select an Output Volume that allows you to hear people in-game without being overly loud. On "Voice Activation Send Method" choose "Push To Talk", and click the "Set" button to choose the button you want to use to talk with Click on Activate Local Test Mode to test your setup. This is a close approximation of what everyone else hears, including microphone volume.

If somebody else tells you that you can barely be heard, activate "Local Test Mode" and test your If somebody else tells you that you can barely be heard, activate "Local Test Mode" and test your microphone volume. Make sure your microphone is close enough to your mouth. Adjust your microphone volume levels in your audio properties. Here is a sample of what you might have to look for in your system for sound configuration (Windows XP):

SIZE, ICONS AND ACRONYMS Your Team Speak should display all three panes (Channel List, Channel Descriptions, and Text Messages). This will prevent you from missing any important information. The dark green icons light up to bright green when someone is talking. Other icons are shown below and what they mean R means Registered r U Unregistered user SA Server Admin - Majors and above are given administrative rights on the server.

TEAM SPEAK COURTESY JOINING A CHANNEL It is common courtesy to state your name when you join a channel, provided there is a break in communication. Some brigades report in by rank and name, while others are more casual. Check to see what is required by your brigade. THE TIME TO COMMUNICATE The only time a communication should be sent is if it reveals OPFOR locations/movements, friendly movements that might prevent members from violating the Rules Of Engagement (ROE), or helpful information such as the location of power weapons (AR, 203, sniper rifle). The key difference is if it does not communicate information needed for the mission, then it does not need to be said. Again, this is for while a mission is underway, talking between members builds friendship and helps build trust and teamwork, feel free to do so as long as no one in channel is in combat. WHEN NOT TO TALK IN TS Communications that do not pertain to what is going on in combat should not be happening in the same TS channel with members who are alive in combat. This chatter covers OPFOR movement noises, which could give away enemy positions and it distracts team members from what is going on in game. This includes operational lectures on the different programs such as TS, U.S.A.T. website, AAO tracker, Sever Administrator rights (with the exception of a command(s) needed at the time of request as long as the administrator is in the same AAO server as the TS members in that channel). If a member needs to discuss something with another individual while combat is going on the member should request the other individual(s) to change to another channel. TS communications should not be used for the sole purpose of displaying astonishment, disappointment or resentment over being killed or being caught unaware. These communications

confuse team members who then have to request what is going on, and takes away valuable air time which could mean the difference between winning and losing a round. TEXT COMMUNICATIONS WITHIN AAO This is the most reliable means of communication available and as such should not be taken for granted. If AAO is running chances are, this is operational. When too much information is going across TS or when TS is down this is the only means to communicate. The voice commands brought up using the G key are also helpful ways to control squad movement or let your team know what you intend to do before doing it, thus helping prevent violation of ROE and keeping the team working as a unit. REPORTING Use the game location reporting function (i.e. America's Army default U Key) whenever possible to minimize voice communication. HOW TO SPEAK IN TS Members should use a clear, calm, steady voice when communicating over TS. Shouting or talking in an excited voice is simply obnoxious, and in-game, it causes a distraction that is not needed. Keep voice tone under control so that the communication comes across Teamspeak clearly the first time and does not need to be repeated. Try to talk in a slow normal tone of voice. Talking too quickly sometimes jumbles the transmission and some members have difficulty understanding words spoken too fast. MISSION COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL Communications during missions should be clear, simple and to the point. If a communication lasts longer than 9 seconds, then it did not serve its purpose because the information is already getting old. A member should not need to identity himself during combat, it does not matter who needs cover fire (it only matters where cover fire is needed), in the same respect it does not matter who needs a medic, only the wounded s location.

There are only two instances when a TS member should have to give their identification during voice communication. When a "bleeder" is identified the closest medic who intends to go assist should identify themselves at the beginning of transmission so that other medics do not risk themselves going out of the way to assist(this also prevents a gathering of team members which OPFOR can easily take out with automatic fire or explosives. Also, Commanders or NCOs should identify themselves before giving squad movement, once identified during the beginning of the mission it should not be necessary to identify during every transmission. Members should become aware of who is giving the orders so that air time is not wasted on identifying who is in charge. TEAM SPEAK ADDITIONAL RULES No cursing while minors are present Allow one person to talk at one time No voice activations allowed (see "TeamSpeak Settings") No Kicking registered members, unless a violation of the teamspeak rules have occurred No offensive comments, even ones made in good humor. They may be taken the wrong way. This includes, but not limited to, racist remarks, sexual harassment, name-calling, ect. No excessive outbursts or WHINING Whenever possible, all USAT members on a dedicated game server also must be on Team Speak Do not register or allow to be registered non-usat members. This includes friends, buddies, other people we regularly invite onto the server, ect. Registration is reserved for USAT members only Join designated Assault or Defense channels whenever possible Do not ask for game IP address for USAT dedicated servers. All the information you need is listed on the right pane of TS as the channel topic whenever you click on a channel. Write down the IP address you are going to use before going in game. Once in game, save the server as a favorite

GHOSTING DEFINITIONS OPPOSITE TEAM GHOSTING Spying for the other team. Opposite team ghosting occurs when you are on a team that is opposite from other players who are on with you in voice communications. Then, you use your position on the opposite team to view remaining or dead player views to communicate Teamspeak where remaining players are, so that the players in your voice communications can take advantage. SAME TEAM GHOSTING Viewing a live or dead player's view to assist locating enemy taking advantage of the more flexible camera angle you have over the player you are assisting. POLICY Opposite Team Ghosting is not allowed, period. It is a kickable and possibly bannable offense. If you are a non-usat member, where practical, you may be asked or forced to move to a team opposite of USAT with similar tag names assuming that you possess the ability to use voice communications in a cooperative setting. Same Team Ghosting (USAT Members) is generally allowed, under the following conditions: The person playing requests help and only one person helps Or, non-precise help is given (i.e. "there are several enemy heading south")

You may NOT provide Same Team Ghosting without being asked or chosen to do so and can be considered unwelcome chatter
