1 How to Use the Online Appeals System Your Real Estate ID and Access Code are printed on the Notice of Value. If the property s ownership has changed recently, you may need to request a new code. Check the checkbox to accept Terms of Use for the site. Click the Create BOE Appeal button to begin your appeal. If you have already submitted an appeal, follow the same steps and click Retrieve Submitted Appeal PDF to view a duplicate copy. 1

2 There are six steps in the appeal process. This bar will show your progress. Appellants other than the property owner may be asked to submit proof of power of attorney. Because many appeals can be resolved through a data correction, we ask that you review your property data on our website and note any discrepancies. An opinion of value must be provided. An approximate or rounded number is okay. At least one basis for your opinion must be provided. Some selections may give a prompt for additional information. When finished, click Next to continue to the next step. 2

3 These questions will collect any known opinions on the market value of the property. Selecting Yes to any of these will open a prompt for values or prices and dates. Continue to Step 3 or return to the previous screen. 3

4 This question seeks to verify specific details that can affect the value of a home. For this purpose, any bathroom with a shower or tub or both is considered a full bath. When appealing the value of income producing property, you will be asked to provide income & expense data to support your opinion of value. This will not apply to most owner-occupied homes. 4

5 This space can be used to provide any information not already covered that you would like the appraiser to know when considering your value. Please verify that the information we have on file is correct, or provide new information if it is not. If you have spreadsheets, scanned documents, photos, or other files you would like to include, you will be able to upload them in Step 6. 5

6 Please provide daytime contact information. This will only be used for the appraiser to contact you regarding the appeal. This is an optional space to let the appraiser know if you have any special needs regarding your availability. For example, if you will be out of town or you work night shifts. Mark Yes and type your name in the text box to certify your appeal. Click to submit your appeal. You will be able to upload attachments on the next screen. 6

7 This message means your appeal has been received in our office. In the last step, you have the option to upload any files that support your opinion of value and attach them to the appeal you have opened. Click this button to attach any files you wish to upload and attach to your appeal. This will be shown in more detail on the next page. If you are not attaching any files, simply answer question #15 and click Finish. Click Finish to complete your appeal. If you have any supporting documentation that is not in an electronic format, marking Yes here will let the appraiser know to expect it. This should be received in our office as soon as possible, and within 30 days of the appeal being opened. 7

8 Use this field to give a brief description of your attachment. If you are not uploading any attachments, just type None. On the previous page, you saw an Attach Files button. Clicking that opens an explorer window to browse for your file. Once you ve selected a file, the screen will look like this. If you wish to attach a second file, click the Add button. You may add as many attachments as you like. The Online Appeals system will show each file as you add it to the list. When you have listed all of the files you wish to attach to your appeal, click the Upload button. The system will keep you informed of its progress. When your files have been uploaded successfully, the Upload button will become inactive and say Done. If you experience any difficulties uploading your files, you can send them to us by . Just answer question #15 as yes, and follow the instructions on the screen. 8

9 This message confirms that your appeal is completed. Click Print to PDF to generate a copy of your appeal that you can print or save. Please keep a record of your Real Estate ID and your Case Number in case you need to contact us with questions. Use the Print Mail Document Form if you will be sending additional information by mail. This will generate a cover sheet with you case number and other details. Appeals are not worked in the order in which they are received. We make every effort to respond within 60 days, but this may be dependent on the number of appeals received. 9
