2011 Region 1 istep Feedbacks
Central istep (Post Mortem Meeting) Survey and get feedback from the student attendees, and learn what they wanted to see at or get out from the istep event. The online registration (vtool) should be clearly stated the location of the istep event scuh as the Hall/Room, where to park, and direction to the venue. Program needs a break after all the presentation on IEEE topics. 30minutes for Mentoring game was too long. It should be reduced down to 15minutes Need a slide to explain how to play the game - Wind Blows Wind. So that the following istep events can use it. Good time to give out the IEEE Caps after the game. Actual program time for Central istep was 3 hours and 15 minutes, excluding the social networking with pizza right after 5:00pm. Program should be clearly stated the food at the Social Networking. Pizza instead of Ice- Cream. Future programs should just state "Social Networking with Professionals" with indicating the specific type of food. There should have signs/direction to the event - at the building front door, staircase, walkway Certification of Application to the student branch chair, and a plaque for the student branch. Need to prepare gift for guest speakers. Should mix the students and volunteers around the tables. Region 1 istep 2011 Slide 19
Northeastern istep (Tom Perkins Summary) Piggy-backing with another IEEE event (NH Section Annual Award Banquet) worked well. Lack of students attending was disappointing, although the ones attending were extremely professional and appreciative. Room layout U shaped put the students up-front with the leadership Increased focus on interaction and dialog with the students. This worked well. Follow-up mentoring is possible. Several of us pledged to help and left with action items. Some students from Dartmouth attended the dinner as a result of the istep promotion, but could not attend the afternoon event. We had good leadership interest and leadership participation from 80% of our Sections We found out afterwards that free housing could have been provided for students traveling long distances which would have saved an overnight hotel room bill. This may be something to consider for future isteps. Region 1 istep 2011 Slide 20
Conference Call 11/22/2011 Event needs to be on Students schedule. It has to be the Student Branch s event. So that, the student officers would be engaged to publicize the event and drive attendance. istep on Saturday afternoon set challenge to the students attendance. Many of them had other priorities and commitments (such as working and visiting parents) on the weekend. Great idea to have istep event at Schools. Develop the program into modules or series of events over 3 to 4 weeks. Each module at about 2 hours during a week day. This will be in favor to the students, but is a challenge to get Section and Region 1 officers to attend. istep 2011 did not meet the milestones that were set for. Programs were great, but attendance was low. Publicity was not enough and weak. Boston Section and Green Mountain Section planned to have istep in Region 1 istep 2011 Slide 21

Budget Balance Sheet Region 1 istep 2011 Slide 23
Budget Summary Incomes = $20, Region 1 = $10,000 MGA = $10,000 Registration = $215 Expenses = $20, istep #1 (Central Area) + Area Meeting + istep Planning = $8, istep #2 (Western Area) + Area Meeting = $ istep #3 (Southern Area) + Area Meeting = $ istep #4 (Northeastern) = $ Region 1 istep 2011 Slide 24
Conclusion Thank you very much for all your hard works and contribution to pilot the new Region 1 istep program in such a short period of time (~2 months). It was your dedication and strong leadership that we were able to pilot 4 istep events in Personally, I thought the pilot programs were successful. I have learnt a lots, and hope you too. Most importantly, it was a pleasure to work with all of you. I was able to get to know you better, and strengthen our bond. I am looking forward to working with you as we continue to serve the needs of the Region 1 and the members through more istep events in Region 1 istep 2011 Slide 25
