2 Overview HRS-9 has several tools for editing, combining, or processing horizons and data slices. This document includes: Automated Math processes. An example workflow for using the Advanced Map Maths process. 2

5 Regrid Data Slice/Horizon Regrid Data Slice process allows you to re-bin a given data slice. 5

6 Smooth Data Slice/Horizon The Smooth Data Slice process allows control of both the inline and the crossline smoothers independently. 6

7 Single Data Slice/Horizon Operation Single Data Slice Operation performs an operation on a single data slice. There are four operations in this process: Binary Mask Clip Square Square Root 7

8 Combine Two Data Slices/Horizons Combine Two Data Slices process creates a combination of any two data slices. The available methods of combining are: Addition Subtraction Division Multiplication Binary Mask Multiplication This processes can also be used with a single data slice (as shown) by using a constant in place of a second data slice. 8

9 Advanced Data Slice Operations Advanced Data Slice Operations process is similar to the Combine Two Data Slices option on the previous page. The difference is that the combinations now available are: Two slices/horizons. A slice and a horizon. A slice/horizon and a constant. 9

11 Advanced Map Maths The Advanced Map Maths process is similar to the Log and Trace Maths. The first two sections perform exactly the same functions as the other Maths processes. 11

12 Example: Input Data For this example, the data used will be the M4 Sand T horizon from our AVO class, along with a data slice take along that horizon (Raw Amplitude, 50 ms window centered on target). This is the section where you choose the input data and assign variable names (the reference for your slice/horizon in the script). In this example, we left the default variable names. Select both pieces of data and proceed to creating the script. 12

13 Example: Script To create a new script, click the Import and Edit button. This opens the Script Editor Window where the variable names for the inputs are displayed, as well as tabs to reference different special variable, operators, keywords, and functions. The main advantage of writing a script is to create customized operations. Type in the script shown, and then click Test Script to check if it works. Once the script passes, click OK to save the script. 13

14 Example: Script If the script needs additional editing, click Import and Edit again and make any needed changes. *Note that below the script, there are additional input values. To use these, check the appropriate boxes. For this example, leave the boxes unchecked. 14

15 Example: Output Map Maths can deal with multiple input data types. Therefore, the software has multiple output options. Here, you can choose to output a slice or horizon, the output value type, and the output domain. In this example, we chose to output the file as a slice and the domain from the horizon. Once the output parameters have been chosen, click OK to run the script and create the new slice. 15

16 Example: Result Running the script brings up the Map tab, where the new slice will be shown. As noted, the M4 Sand T horizon was used, along with a data slice taken along that horizon. If you use different data or different parameters, your result will vary. 16

17 Summary Advanced Map Maths is a very useful tool for analyzing horizons or data slices. It allows you to combine operations into a single function, as well as create customized and proprietary functions. Additional scripts can be found at : 17
