Displaying on-the-fly fly crossplot volumes in View3D SAMPLE IMAGE Simon Voisey Hampson-Russell London September 08
Introduction Before the release we needed to export crossplot volumes to SEG-Y for viewing them in View3D. Now in we can display crossplot volumes on-the-fly and overlay on an additional volume. In this workflow we show how to overlay AB crossplot volume on to a Scaled Poisson s Ratio volume. Although we are working in the AVO domain, we can use this workflow for any crossplot. 2
STEP 1 A and B volumes have been produced in our AVO package. 3
STEP 2 The scaled Poisson s ratio volume is derived from the A and B volumes. Although you can visually see the volume, it is not stored as a SEG-Y file, the scaled Poisson s ratio volume is internal to the current AVO project. The scaled Poisson s ratio volume can be displayed through h the view parameters, eye-ball, when the A and B volumes are imported into the AVO seismic window. 4
STEP 3 We use the copy to export the scaled Poisson s ratio volume to SEG-Y. It is a planned development to allow internal volumes, such as the scaled Poisson s ratio volume, to be displayed in View3D without the need of exporting to SEG-Y. 5
STEP 4 Parameters used for the copy command. We export the entire volume to SEG-Y and give an appropriate name. 6
STEP 5 Interpreted gas zone (red) on AB crossplot. 7
STEP 6 View of AB crossplot volume. 8
STEP 7 Zones interpreted on crossplots are contained in a zone filter group, shown right. In this example we only have one zone filter group. However if multiple zone filter groups exist in your project, they can be selected in View3D. 9
STEP 8 Unlike the scaled Poisson s ratio volume, we do not need to export the crossplot volume to SEG-Y. We can therefore exit AVO. 10
STEP 9 Click View3D from the Geoview toolbar and select your active AVO project. 11
STEP 10 The look and feel to View3D has changed from CE8R1 and CE8R2. In we have a single window which is the combination of the data management and display windows which we had prior to. 12
STEP 11 To display the volumes, simply highlight them in the data-management tab and drag-and-drop into the black visualisation window. Drag and Drop 13
STEP 12 You will be prompted to review the geometry. Click Yes. 14
STEP 13 With larger volumes I suggest decimating and targeting the time window to reduce the memory needed to display the volumes. This will allow smooth rotation and movement of the volume when displayed in the visualisation window. 15
STEP 14 Initial view of loaded volumes. We need to optimise this display because currently we are not fulfilling our objective of overlapping our crossplot volume on to the scaled Poisson s ratio volume. The following slides illustrate how this is done. 16
STEP 15 We will first define our seismic volume. Right-click on the window and select: Seismic Volume -> Data Selection 17
STEP 16 Seismic Volume data selection can now be made at tthe top of fthe screen. We want to make the scaled Poisson s ratio volume the seismic volume because the color volume will always overlap the seismic volume. So in this workflow we make the crossplot volume the color volume, thus the crossplot volume will overlap the scaled Poisson s ratio volume, which we are making the seismic volume. 18
STEP 17 Currently the color key for the scaled Poisson s ratio volume is rainbow. This is not optimum for visualising our scaled Poisson s ratio volume. I recommend the AVO amplitude color key. We choose the AVO amplitude color key for the scaled Poisson s ratio volume by first rightclicking on the screen and selecting: Seismic Volume -> View Parameters 19
STEP 18 Click color from the recently opened View Parameters tab. 20
STEP 19 Select the AVO amplitude color key and click OK. 21
STEP 20 To define our crossplot volume as the color Volume we right-click on the screen and select: Zones -> Select Volume 22
STEP 21 We select the correct x&y axis for the A and B volumes and indicate our zone filter. The zone filter has a pull-down menu so any zone filter group stored in your project can be selected here. 23
STEP 22 View of AB crossplot volume overlapping scale Poisson s ratio volume. RED: Interpreted gas zone from the crossplot volume. [x] Any other colour: Highlighted colour key [X] 24
STEP 23 [1] We can go to the viewing parameters of the crossplot volume by toggling on the color option. [2] We see the color profile is halved so that only red (gas zone) is displayed. [2] [1] The color profile is interactive. Feel free to increase/decrease the priority of red by drawing in the color profile box. 25
