6 Page 6 January 2011 TD 276 OPERATING ANNUAL DOPPLER LOG SYSTEM Activating the Doppler Log System To activate the Doppler log, insert cable plug marked Buoy at the bottom of the buoy. Tighten the nut with the supplied wrench. The system is now turned on (activated). Remove same plug to turn off the system. Install cap when not in use. Figure 1-2 Activating the Doppler log system 1.3 Charging the Doppler Log System Charging battery inside buoy is done by inserting charger plug at the bottom of the buoy. Connect the charger to 90/240V AC. Battery is fully charged within 8 hours. Leave the charger connected when not in use. Maintenance charging is done once a week. Setup on oil boom Attach the lower suspension point to oil boom skirt with C-shackle. Depth of sensor is adjustable, by sliding wiregrip up/down on cable. Figure 1-4 Mounting the Doppler log system. 9 October 2008 TD 276 OPERATING ANNUAL DOPPLER LOG SYSTEM 4900 Page 9 CHAPTER 2 Deployment/Retrieval of the Doppler Log System 2.1 Deployment Refer CHAPTER 1 for attaching the Doppler log system to the oil boom. Ensure that the sensor cable is free to move, and that the cable can not be tied up when the system is deployed. 2.2 Recovery Disconnect the Doppler log system from the oil boom when the boom has been spooled in. NOTE!! Do not disconnect the sensor cable from the float before the system is cleaned, refer chapter Cleaning Use a pressure washer (steamer) to clean the system when the sensor cable is connected to the float. 2.4 Storing Disconnect the sensor cable from the float. Lubricate connectors with o-ring grease, and install cover caps on the outlets, refer Figure 1-2. Put the system in a storage case and connect the charger for the float, refer Figure 1-3. The sensor cable should always be connected to the Doppler sensor. Reliable solutions

10 Page 10 January 2011 TD 276 OPERATING ANNUAL DOPPLER LOG SYSTEM 4900 CHAPTER 3 Doppler Log Receiver Station 3.1 Overview of the Receiver Station The antenna is in the main unit transport case. The power supply is underneath the PC. The 5m antenna cable is in the suitcase together with the PC. (The 10m antenna cable is in the transport case for the main system) Connect the antenna. Connect the PC power supply. Figure 3-1 Overview of the Receiver Station. 3.2 Starting the Doppler log display program The Doppler log display program will start automatically when the computer is booted. If the program does not start automatically after boot up, or if you want to restart the program after closing it, use the shortcuts on the desktop or in the start menu. Shortcuts to log files directory are also present, refer chapter 3.4 for more information on log files. AANDERAA DATA INSTRUMENTS

The critical speed limits for the system can be changed while the program is running. Choose the predefined configuration that matches your system type and the com port you are currently using. 13 October 2008 TD 276 OPERATING ANNUAL DOPPLER LOG SYSTEM 4900 Page Files and Directories The program is installed in directory C:\Programfiler\AADI\Doppler log display. This directory contains the program file Display, the configuration file configuration and a directory logs where log files are stored. If an update of the display program or its configurations should be needed, simply replace the appropriate file with a newer version. A log file is created every time the Doppler Log Display program is started. These files are located in the directory C:\Programfiler\AADI\Doppler log display\logs. Shortcuts to this directory are found on the desktop and in the start menu, refer chapter 3.2. The log files are named log_yyyy_mm_ddthh.mm.ss.txt where Y=year, M=month, D=day, H=Hour, M=Minute, S=Second Log file content consist of a heading followed by logged data.
