You can find the component package at the Tutorials sections of www. visualcomponents.com/support introduction This tutorial shows how to build a high volume consumer goods (HVCG) conveyor line using just a few parametric equipment components from flexlink s classic equipment library. objective To give a short introduction to Visual Components 3DRealize User Interface. To construct a high volume conveyor line system from a few well defined parametric components. At the end of the tutorial you should be able to: Manipulate objects and navigate in the 3Dworld Use the electronic catalogue (ecat) Change component parameters Connect components Save a layout Run a simulation By the end of the tutorial the layout you will have created should look like the picture below.
2 Tutorials HVCG Conveyor TUTORIAl /11 USER INTERFACE (GUI) Menu Bar: The menu bar allows you to access the functionality of 3DRealize. Tool Bar: The tool bar displays the most frequently used commands. Simulation Controls: The simulation player has control similar to a standard CD or cassette player. Tabbed Panel: The tabbed panels select different contexts. 3DWorld: The 3DWorld is a three dimensional display area. Message Panel: The message panel displays the messages. Status Bar: The status bar displays the selection mode and the name of the selected object. It also has different toggle option buttons. Dynamic Tool Bar: The dynamic tool bar displays the possible options of an active command. Context Sensitive Menu: Context sensitive right-click pop-up menu gives access to commands that can be used in the given context.
3 Tutorials HVCG Conveyor TUTORIAl 3/11 3D World Navigation and object Manipulation You can navigate either using the tool bar icons or shortcut keys. If you activate a navigation command from a tool bar icon, you can end navigation by pressing space or selecting an other command. When navigation is activated using a shortcut, the last command that was active when the navigation mode started is automatically re-activated after navigation ends. Orbit: (hold down ctrl + left mouse button and drag) Orbits the viewpoint around the center of interest. Pan: (hold down alt + left mouse button and drag) Moves the viewpoint along a view plane parallel with the screen. Zoom: ( hold down shift + left mouse button and drag) Moves the viewpoint closer or further away from the center of interest. Fill: (ctrl + shift + F) Fills the 3DWorld with the layout in the current pose. Center View: (shift + mouse button) Click on the point of interest in the 3DWorld and the camera centers to that point. (Note: You must pick on real geometry, not the floor) When you Orbit or Zoom you do so about the current center point of interest. 3DRealize is object-oriented so every action can be described as: select an object apply an operation on it. Select: You select an object simply by picking it with the left mouse button in the 3DWorld while Select is actives from the Toolbar. The current object is automatically deselected when a new object is picked. You can Select multiple objects by holding down the shift and ctrl keys when picking or by drawing a selection box with the left mouse button held down and dragging from right to left or left to right. Trans (translate object): Move the object by dragging the desired handle (red, green, blue). The Object must be selected (Select). Rot (rotate object): Rotate the object by dragging the mouse on the direction handles (red, green, blue). The Object must be selected (Select).
4 Tutorials HVCG Conveyor TUTORIAl /11 Begin Building the layout The first component in the layout will be a conveyor with two horizontal bends. The component s name is Conveyor -2 H Bends and it can be added to the layout by drag-and-dropping it from the ecat/classic library into the 3D window or by double-clicking the component icon. After retrieval, select the component with the Select tool from the toolbar. Once the component is selected, a red bounding box will appear around the component after which you can change parameters of the component from the Param -tab. Yellow triangles indicates the connection points of other components, like feet, input and output conveyors. They also show the direction of the conveyor component. Retrieve the next component into the layout ( Conveyor -1 H Bend ).
5 Tutorials HVCG Conveyor TUTORIAl /11 Change the parameters of the new conveyor ( Select -> Params -tab). PLUG AND PLAY COMMAND The plug and play command allows the user to connect components together. Select one of the components and select the PnP -function from the toolbar. Move the component close to another components input/output yellow arrows in 3DWorld. If the components have matching interfaces a (Green line appears), to indicate they can be connected. A Green arrow appears once the connection is complete.
6 Tutorials HVCG Conveyor tutorial /11 Retrieve a conveyor with one vertical bend Conveyor 1V Bend and change parameters as indicated and then connect it to the start of the system. When connecting, the connected component will automatically reorientate itself based on the orientation and location of the other components interface (yellow triangle).
7 Tutorials HVCG Conveyor tutorial /11 The next two components in the system are a vertical and a horizontal bend.
8 Tutorials HVCG Conveyor tutorial /11 VERTICAL ALPINE BUFFER SYSTEM The next part from the system will be a vertical alpine conveyor, that is built using the Conveyor -Alpine component. After the first component is retrieved and parameters are set, you can copy the component using CTRL-C and then paste CTRL-V and connect five times. Connect each component to existing layout with PnP function selected from the toolbar. The finished alpine conveyor.
9 Tutorials HVCG Conveyor tutorial /11 CREATOR FUNCTION A Creator component is used to introduce parts to the system. Select the function Creator component and add it to the start of the layout. The size, type and batch properties for the products can be defined using the Creator component s parameter settings. From the Creator -function s parameters, you can define the type of the products to be created by selecting the Creator -tab and by clicking on the button with the three dots. Select the desired geometry and click open. The frequency, how often components are created, and the product dimensions can be set. Now is a good time to save the layout before running the simulation. To save a layout, click Save from the toolbar and enter the desired infromation. After save, you can run the simulation to see, how the system works so far.
10 Tutorials HVCG Conveyor tutorial 10/11 COMPLETING THE LAYOUT For overall appearances an Element -Idler & Motor component is connected the the end of the alpine buffer. This does not effect the results of the simulation but it finished off the line visually. The last task is to add a component to complete the layout by connecting the end of the conveyor to the start of the creator component. You should use Add Dimensions -function from the Menubar -> Tools to estimate the distance between start and the endpoint or you can adjust the length parameters to fit.
11 Tutorials HVCG Conveyor tutorial 11/11 COMPLETED LAYOUT Now the system should be ready, and needs be saved. After save you can run the simulation.
