4 How is the on-prem BIAS directory structured? 1. BIAS_6 "BIAS Root Folder" Contains complete folder structure for BIAS. 2. backupdata The backup program places backups in this directory. This will only be seen by the backup client. 3. Data All data files and error files are stored in this location. Also contains Magic.ini and BIAS_usr.eng. 4. Documentation Holds various documents and other items, used infrequently. 5. Install Contains all files necessary to install BIAS, as well as the primary shortcut (BIAS_6.Ink). Install files for Pervasive, unipaas, and logmein are contained in this directory as well. 6. Graphics Contains various images. 7. PSQL11.30 Holds files necessary to install Pervasive. 8. PVSWCache Stores files for Pervasive. Page 4 of 31

5 9. Shared (1) This directory contains Pervasive's core runtime files. 10. Program Files Includes all unipaas base files and holds its own folder structure. 11. Gateways Contains files that will search for database gateways. 12. Graphics Holds primary BIAS shield shortcut, as well as icons for the test company. 13. Shared (2) Contains all unipaas core runtime files. Note that this is where BIAS will be updated to newer versions. 14. SoapClientModules Generally empty and can typically be ignored. 15. Support Includes several files that allow users to set the font and colors in BIAS. 16. Script Documents Not yet in use. 17. Test Generally holds data and magic.ini for test company. Page 5 of 31

7 What do I need to prepare for a BIAS installation? Before beginning the BIAS install, please complete the following items: Locate Pervasive and Magic licenses for the client. If relevant, brief local IT on the BIAS installation process. Request a network share that BIAS users can access, read, and write, including execute permissions. Page 7 of 31

8 How do I install the Pervasive database? Pervasive is used to store client data and must be installed before using BIAS. Follow these steps to install the Pervasive software database. Check to see if Pervasive is already installed 1. From the Start Menu, type "Add or Remove Programs" and open the system settings. 2. Type "Pervasive" in the search bar. If Pervasive does not appear, you may proceed to the steps to install Pervasive. Page 8 of 31

9 3. Verify if the existing install of Pervasive is compatible with BIAS. BIAS supports Pervasive versions 10 and higher. If an older version is downloaded, contact BIAS Support for assistance. Install Pervasive 1. Navigate to This PC > Local Disk (C:) > BIAS_6 > Install > PSQL11.30 > Workgroup. 2. Run PSQL-Workgroup win to install Pervasive on a SERVER - Install PSQL- Client win.x86 on a CLIENT. The following steps are the same for either version 3. As you go through the installation, you may accept the default settings with two exceptions: Select 32-bit installation. Page 9 of 31

10 Select Run as Service when prompted. Click Next until process is completed. Page 10 of 31

11 How do I create BIAS shortcuts? The BIAS_6 shortcut is located in: BIAS_6 > Install The Test Company icon is located in: BIAS_6 > Test The most common location for BIAS is C:BIAS_6>Install Page 11 of 31

12 1. Right click on the appropriate shortcut and select Copy. 2. Right click on desktop and select Paste. Page 12 of 31

13 Repeat steps 2 & 3 for the Test Company On rare occasions may get 'unable to find w3btrv7.dii' error (or something similar) when starting BIAS. If this occurs, log off and log back in. Page 13 of 31

14 How do I install or uninstall BIAS Support (LogMeIn)? If entered into a Remote Session via LogMeIn Rescue, then you use the built in function within LogMeIn to install BIAS Support. 1. From within the console main screen, select the 'Calling Card' menu button. 2. DESELECT the 'Launch Calling Card every time the remove device is started' option. 3. Click the 'Install Calling Card' button. Page 14 of 31

15 If no access to LogMeIn Console, then install LogMeIn via the.msi (Microsoft Service Installer) 1. The.MSI is located here: LogMeIn%2BRescue%2BCalling%2BCard.msi or use the.msi that is in the installation file when installing BIAS on a non-hosted new computer. 2. Double click the.msi to initiate the installation. 3. The install is very straight forward, click Next at every prompt. Page 15 of 31

18 5. Done! BIAS Support is now installed. To Un-Install BIAS Support 1. Open the "Uninstall or Change a Program" control panel windows by typing "appwiz.cpl" in the start menu window. Page 18 of 31

19 2. After opening the control panel item select BIAS Support, Right click and select uninstall. 3. Select "Yes" to uninstall the program when prompted Page 19 of 31

20 How do I setup a Star printer? Verify that the Star printer has been connected 1. From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel. 2. Click View Devices and Printers. Page 20 of 31

21 3. Verify that printer has been set up and connected. Star TSP100 Cutter should be included on the list of available printers. Setup printer in BIAS 4. Open BIAS 5. Go to Cash Receipting > Setup Tables > Set Receipt Printer. 6. Enter the printer name from Step #3 into the Name field. Then click Update. Page 21 of 31

22 How do I setup a cash drawer for my Star TSP100 printer? 1. From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel. 2. Click View Devices and Printers. Page 22 of 31

23 3. Right click on the Star TSP100 Cutter printer from the list and select Properties. 4. Go to the Advanced tab and set the following items: Select Always Available Select Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster Select Start printing immediately Uncheck the boxes for Hold mismatched documents and Keep printed documents Check the boxes for Print spooled documents first and Enable advanced printing features 5. Go to the Device Settings tab and match each item to the settings below: 6. Click OK. Page 23 of 31

24 What network ports are required for BIAS? The following TCP/IP ports must be open to allow BIAS to connect to the database: TCP: 3351 for the transactional interface TCP: 1583 for the relational interface TCP: 139 for named pipes. Page 24 of 31

25 Where is BIAS Installed? To find where BIAS is installed on your on-premises server, follow these steps: 1. Locate the BIAS icon. This icon is the one used to open BIAS and is typically found on your desktop. 2. Right click on the icon and choose Properties. 3. A new window will open. Page 25 of 31

26 The Target field is where BIAS is installed. In this example; BIAS is installed on the same computer being used. In many cases it will be installed on a server and the Target field will be similar to //<computername>/bias_6 or <shareddrive>/bias_6. <computername> is the name of the server. An example would be //cityserver/bias_6/ <shareddrive> will be the shared name that your IT provided you for easier access to BIAS. An example would be E:\BIAS_6/ Page 26 of 31

27 How do I Install/Move BIAS? Moving BIAS to a new server can be completed by following these steps: 1. Copy BIAS to New Server 2. Modify magic.ini for New Server Paths 3. Deactivate the Pervasive License on the Original Server 4. Install Pervasive on the New Server 5. Activate the Pervasive License 6. Install Shorcuts Most issues may be resolved under the Troubleshooting heading. Copy BIAS to New Server 1. Locate the "BIAS_6" folder on the original server. 2. Copy the entire contents and the "BIAS_6" folder to the new server. Modify magic.ini for New Server Paths 1. Navigate to the "BIAS_6/Data" folder on the new server. 2. Open the magic.ini file with a simple text editor such as notepad. 3. Modify any paths in the magic.ini that have changed by moving from the original to the new server. 1. Example: Change "C:\BIAS_6\Program Files\Shared\bias_6.ecf" to "D:\BIASDATA\BIAS_6\Program Files\Shared\bias_6.ecf" if the new server has Bias installed in "D:\BIASDATA" instead of simply on the "C:" drive on the original server. If mybias is installed as well, the above steps will need to be followed in mybias.ini Deactivate the Pervasive Key on the Original Server To deactivate the Pervasive License, follow the steps located here: How do I activate or deactivate a Pervasive License? Install Pervasive on the New Server To install Pervasive on the new server, follow the steps located here: How do I install the Pervasive database? Activate the Pervasive License on the New Server To deactivate the Pervasive License, follow the steps located here: Page 27 of 31

28 How do I activate or deactivate a Pervasive License? Install Shorcuts First the local shortcut will need to be modified on the new server to make setting up client shortcuts easier later. To modify the shortcut follow these steps: 1. Navigate to the "BIAS_6\Installation" folder on the new server. 2. Select the BIAS shortcut icon, right click, and select properties. 3. Change the path in the "Target", making sure to read the entire path as the "Target" field may have more than one path in it. 4. Change the path in the "Start In" field to point to BIAS on the new server. This field may be empty and if it is, skip this step. 5. Click the 'Change Icon...' button. 6. Select the BIAS icon from the "BIAS_6\Program Files\Shared\graphics" folder on the new server. After the shortcut on the new server has been setup, follow these steps to install the client shortcuts to access BIAS from the server: How do I create BIAS shortcuts? 29 How do I activate or deactivate a Pervasive License? Starting with v13 Pervasive is now named Actian so all references to Pervasive may be Actian. The license (and possibly one or more user count increases licenses as well) is assigned to a specific computer when activated. If either the hardware configuration or the network card is changed, the license(s) will need to be deactivated on the old Server before being activated on the new Server. Please follow the following steps: First, open "Pervasive (or Actian) License Administrator" by either pressing the windows key and typing "Pervasive License Administrator" or looking for it in your programs list. If you are not sure of the version, search by using 'License Administrator'. There should be an 'Install' or 'Installation Files' folder under BIAS_6. If there is not a text file in that folder that contains all your Pervasive/Actian Key(s) I would create one to copy all the License Key(s) you own. If the key(s) are lost you may need to purchase a new license! Activate a Pervasive License 1. Enter the License into the "Key" field. 2. Click the "Authorize" button to the right of the field. Deactivate a Pervasive License Some installations may have more than one license, make sure to record them all. Lost keys may need to be repurchased if unrecoverable. 1. Right Click on the Active Product Key and select "Copy Product Key". 2. Paste this value in a text file in your Installation folder. 3. Click on the Pervasive License to deactivate. 4. Click the "Deactivate" button towards the bottom right. 5. Repeats steps 1-4 until all "Active" licenses have been deactivated Page 29 of 31

30 How Do I Install BIAS On A New Computer? These instructions are for adding BIAS to a new computer when BIAS already exists on the network. Locate folder under BIAS_6 named Install or Installation Files. This location should have the needed files, if not, BIAS can transfer them to you. Install the Pervasive Client Determine Pervasive version and type. Pervasive versions 10.##.###.###, 11.##.###.###, and 13.##.###.### are currently used by BIAS and will be installed either as a Server or Workgroup on the server. Look in the installation folder to see which version is in use is the most common release. Some customers may have 11.10, 11.20, or and there are some various v10.## out there as well. If Pervasive was upgraded at some time there may be multiple versions in the folder, if you are not sure which to use, log into the server, check the programs list, it should have the current version listed. Starting with v13, the exe's still start with PSQL but it will be named/installed under Actian not Pervasive in the Programs list. Examples of Pervasive Versions PSQL-Server win.exe PSQL-Workgroup win.exe PSQL-Client win.x86.exe If there is a Server version, the Client exe needs to match. Workgroup versions prior to ###.### can use either the Client exe or if there is no client.exe in the install folder, the Workgroup install contains the install client option. If the version is or higher and there is no client exe, BIAS Support can provide that. Page 30 of 31
