Windows 95/98/ME/NT and 2000 are no longer supported! For the installation the user must have administrator rights. Page 2 / 11

3 2. Installation Manual 2.1. Procedure Insert the CD in the CD/DVD drive; the installation program automatically starts. If this is not the case, start from the CD. The installation program creates an icon on the desktop, with which PROTEUS / PROTEUS MT can be started First installation The following drivers/programs must also be installed: PROTEUS: PROTEUS MT : Kithara Driver Collection Kithara Driver Collection MS SQL Express (if no MS SQL-Server exists) After installing, load over menu of PROTEUS / PROTEUS MT the test modules from the CD. They are in the subdirectoriy '...\Modules' on the CD. Page 3 / 11

4 2.3. Update installation Are they installed older Kithara drivers, you will be prompted to uninstall them first Before the installation, all older Kithara drivers must be uninstalled. A newer version can always be installed over an existing. First it is recommended to make a backup. All configurations and settings, particularly the print templates, test programs etc., will be unchanged. 3. MS SQL Server Express 3.1. Overview Original Microsoft : Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is the free, easy-to-use, lightweight version of SQL Server Integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, SQL Server Express makes it easy to develop data-driven applications that are rich in capability, offer enhanced storage security, and are fast to deploy. SQL Server Express is free to redistribute and can be seamlessly upgraded to more sophisticated versions of SQL Server. For more information about SQL Server 2005 Express, including other versions of downloadable and available components, can be found on the site Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express from Microsoft 3.2. Standalone application (local) Both PROTEUS MT, as well as the SQL Server are installed locally on the same PC. There are no further points to note in particular, especially not for the configuration of data paths in PROTEUS MT. Page 4 / 11

5 3.3. Multi-user (network server) Manual To ensure a simultaneous and controlled use of the data, SQL Server must be installed on the network server. PROTEUS MT will be installed on each workstation and must be configured by the first start. The configuration of the parameters and paths is described in the help (manual) by PROTEUS MT / SQL Server (first start) Installation In addition to the SQL Server it is very useful to installed the tool 'Management Studio Express. Proceed as follows: deactivate param 'Hide advanced configuration' Set option of Management Studio Express to install. Page 5 / 11

6 3.5. Configuration By a local installation all protocols, except 'Shared Memory', are disabled. Using the program 'SQL Server Configuration Manager' and enable the protocols, min. the protocol 'TCP / IP'. Note: For activate the changes, you must restarting the SQL service. 4. Proteus / Proteus MT 4.1. Users rights Above all, Windows 7 has taken a restrictive security policy on user permissions. Even if the software was installed with administrative privileges the user does not have access to the disk. PC-Cards Installation of the drivers for the PC cards WE PCI-ADC16, WE PCI-IC and WE PCI-IO Driver installation After the installation of the card in the PC, Windows recognizes the new hardware and starts the installation: Choose the parameter 'Install from a list...'. With 'Browse' select the CD drive and the directory 'drivers\we PCI-Cards\Win_2k_XP' on the CD. Because the driver is not certified by Microsoft (high cost), you must confirm the installation with 'Continue Anyway'. Page 8 / 11

9 If Windows can not find all files, select the CD drive and the directory 'drivers\we PCI-Cards\Win_2k_XP' again. After successful installation, this is confirmed by Windows. In the Windows Device Manager you can control the installation under the key 'Multifunction adapters'. Depending on the type of card there must be an entry like 'WE-PCI...'. Page 9 / 11

10 6. Problem with clock After the installation of 'Kithara Driver Collection' version 9 and above can cause problems with the clock by running it slowed significantly and can no longer be adjusted. The company Kithara has until now no solution for this problem. Note: The following solution applies only to Windows XP, because of Kithara Driver version 6.05 is not running on Windows Vista / 7. Uninstall the 'Kithara Driver Collection 2009 Runtime' under Start>Settings>Control Panel>Software (Windows). Page 10 / 11

11 Install the 'Kithara Runtime Version 6.05', by running the program 'ksetup.exe' from CD, directory 'x:\kithara\runtimeversions\v 6.0x', and possibly the required restart of Windows. Copy the files 'Proteus.exe' from CD, directory 'x:\proteus kithara 6' into the program directory (usually 'C:\Program Files\Proteus') and confirm replacing the file with 'yes'.
