3 Changes in This Revision: Paragraph All Prior Text or Intent Release B, Revision 1, 9/12/2003 New release for the ISO Q system. Previously revisions as WI0502 can be found in the 1994 System folder in the QA computer system Revision C, Revision 1, 7/12/07. Completely changed the system, doing away with individual computer backups. Now requiring all quality record data to be stored on a network server which is backed up daily & Revision 2, 3/1/13. Change references to tape to reflect updated practice using USB external hard disk, and an on-site safe instead of off-site storage. 4.2 & footer Revision 3, 7/30/13. 4 1.0 Purpose and Scope This document will describe how individual computers and networked computer systems are backed up to prevent accidental loss of data or to repair unintended changes of data relevant to the Wacom Quartz quality system. This document applies to all personnel assigned a computer or assigned a password to access a section of the networked computer systems. 2.0 Definitions Workstation Computer System Backup Software A PC computer used daily at someone s desk or work area. A server computer or group of workstation computers sharing data across a network that can be backed up to other media across the network. Either a commercially available software tool for backing up data; or the act of copying files via the computer operating system software. 3.0 Procedure 3.1 Workstations Each workstation user is responsible for identifying which data files they create or use require backup. These files will then be stored on the one of the network computer systems. Operating system and application software CDs are stored in the fire resistant safe, for re-install as needed At a minimum these files will include anything identified as a quality record in SOP-CQR01 Control of Quality Records or in paragraph 4.1 of any SOP or Work Instruction; which exists as an electronic document. MS Outlook mailbox files are also stored on the network computer system. 3.2 Computer Systems All networked computers will have a commercial software backup plan installed and scheduled on one of the Wacom Quartz server computers. This plan will backup data to external disk The Server backup will include all operating system components of the server itself along with any accessible files identified for backup on hard disks of attached individual computers or shared network drives. (See par. 3.1 above.) Frequency of backups will be daily but can be full or incremental per the backup software manufacturer s recommendations. Page 4 of 5

5 3.2.4 Once per week, the daily backup (typically on Monday from a Friday backup session) will be swapped out for an exact copy stored in a fire-proof safe on site, in case of disaster at the Wacom Quartz plant.
