Printing, Copying and Pasting Text with the DVD 1. Printing from the PEP Archives The PEP DVD allows you to print out complete papers, selected text, the ranked hit list and the bibliography contents. These features are strictly for your personal use and subject to the copyrights set out in your license agreement which is contained on your DVD. Printing a Complete Paper Using any of the methods described elsewhere in the Manual, first find and display the paper you wish to print. Once the article is displayed in the Document pane, you may print it out by selecting the Printicon found at the top right hand side of the screen. Click on the Print icon The following Print dialog box will be displayed. The dialog shows the default printer, number of copies and other information. The database has
been divided into sections, where each article occupies a complete section. Print one or more articles by placing checkmarks next to the article titles in the print dialog list under Section You can print one or more articles simply by placing checkmarks next to the article title under Section. When you click on an article box to check it in this dialog, the Section radio will be automatically selected If the Records radio is selected, it means you have NOTchecked a new article to print. Note The paper size and widths of margins can be changed by selecting Page Setup from the File Menu. Select the S e ction option box to check it ( ) Click on OK The complete paper will now be printed out. IMPORTANT: After you print the checked article, you must CLEAR your selections using the Edit Menu option. Clear All Checks (or right click anywhere on the Bibliography pane and select Clear All Checks. For MAC users, you want to go to your View Menu option to clear all checks. NOTE that there is a bug in the current software. After you close the print dialog, you won t see the articles you selected checked in the Bibliography pane. However, if you used the print by section feature of the print dialog, those checks are in effect for the search as well. Thus, after printing, you must use the Clear All Checks menu option (on the Edit Menu -PC or View Menu- MAC) to clear all checkmarks before you search. Printing the Selected Text First select the text you wish to print out. Text is selected in the same way as text is selected when using your word processor. Once in the Document pane, place the cursor at the beginning of the text you are selecting. While holding down the Shift key, place the cursor at the end of the text and release the Shift key. (Alternatively, for a short bit of text, click the cursor at the beginning of the text then while holding down the left mouse button, move the cursor to the end of the text and release the button.) The selected text will now show as highlighted in a color. Select the text that you want to print out from the article You will see that the Selection radio has been selected automatically. Click on OK The selected text will now be printed out. Printing the List Bibliography from your Search The Search by Context [Ctrl + 1] or Advanced Search [Ctrl + 2] have the option: List Bibliography from your Search. This new feature on PEP A1v3 allows you to export and print the bibliographic results of your search. When you check the box by List Bibliography from your Search, you will find your bibliographic references listed in the Document Window. You have the option to print some or all of those references or cut and paste them to your word processing program.
To print your List Select the Print Document Tab Select the All radio and Press OK Result: Your bibliography list in the document pane will print out for you. Note: You can cut and paste any of those references into a wordprocessing document and then print or save. Printing the Ranked Hits List NOTE: In order to get a ranked hit list, you must perform a ranked search When the Print dialog Box opens, Select the Print Hit List Tab Click on the All radio to select the whole Ranked list of references. Your screen should look something like this. Click on OK to print out the Ranked List of references. Printing the Bibliography (Contents) or complete reference list To print out the Bibliography, When the Print dialog Box opens, Select the Print Contents Tab Click on the All radio to select the complete list of references to Kohon, your screen should look something like this.
Click on OK to print out the complete List of references. 2. Using the Copy and Paste Commands The PEP DVD includes a copy command feature that allows you to highlight and copy text and images to your Clipboard of your wordprocessing document. This feature is provided for your personal use of the product. For example, you may wish to copy information on a certain topic to an electronic file to make a research file (notes, lecture, draft paper) for your future reference, or you may wish to print out an article to read at a later time when you are away from your computer. However, copyright law does not allow you, for example, to copy an article for commercial publication or for posting onto a computer bulletin board. These examples are illustrative, and are not meant to summarise applicable law. See your license agreement for details. The cut, copy and paste commands are the same as those that you already use in your wordprocessor. To begin, open your document window in your wordprocessing program. Then minimize your wordprocessing program, so it is ready for you to insert selected text. To copy text from an article into an open document in your word-processor: Select the text in the Document pane (as described in the section on Printing out selected text, (2) above) Menu) Press Ctrl + C ( + C on the Macintosh) to copy. (Alternatively select Copy from the Edit Minimize the Folio Views window by Clicking on the Minimize Window button right side of the Folio Viewswindow Title bar. at the top Maximize your word-processing document from your word-processor program. Move your cursor to the place where you wish to place the text. Edit Menu) Press Ctrl + V ( + V on the Macintosh) to paste the text. (Alternatively select Paste from the
The selected text will now be in your document. To get back to Folio Views exit or minimize your word-processor and maximize Folio Views by selecting the Folio Viewsbutton on the Taskbar (Windows).
