1 Creating a Prescription Map Manually 2013 NEATA Workshop Once the yield monitor files have been processed and imported, you should see the Management tree as shown here, for example: Here, we have the grower (Joe Luck), the farm (Brown), then the fields (#114). Right-click on the field you want to work with and select Freeze Boundary from the dropdown menu: 1 P a g e

2 Now click on the Create Map icon to bring up the field boundary in a new Map. In a few seconds, the aerial image may appear behind the boundary. On the right side of the screen, click on the Edit Layer Options icon. When the Layer and Attribute/Property Options window appears, click on the Property(Field- Name) Options, then click the Drawing tab. Now, un-check the Fill Polygons option. Now click OK at the bottom of the window: 2 P a g e

3 The boundary should now be hollow without any fill. Under the File menu, select New, then select Prescription Layer. When the Prescription Reference Layer Selection window appears, click Next >. 3 P a g e

4 On the Prescription Attribute Type and Units Selection window, select Planting Prescription for the Operation, Target Rate (Count) for the Rate Attribute Type, and ksds/ac for the Rate Units. These units will be our planting prescription in 1,000 seeds per unit. Now click Next >. The Edit Prescription Layer window should now appear. Select 2 for the Range Settings. You should now see two colors on the left side of the window. Click in each Value (ksds/ac) cell and enter 34 in the top cell and 28 in the bottom cell. Now click Next >. 4 P a g e

5 The final Assign Legend Ranges window should appear. At this time, we only have one management zone on the map. As long as both of our planting rates (34 and 28 ksds/ac) show up in the Legend Assignment View, this is okay. Click Finish. The Prescription Editor-New Layer window should appear as shown below. Notice that the boundary is still hollow, however the prescription layer is solid white. Adjust the Transparency bar to a lower setting so we can see the aerial image. 5 P a g e

6 At the bottom right, click on the Divide by Polyline tool. This will divide the prescription layer at locations where we draw a line. Click once at a point outside the field boundary where you want to start the cut line. Now, move the cursor across the field to another point outside the field boundary to your ending point. Now right-click to end the line. You can do this multiple times, and add in more click points within the field if you want (in other words, your lines do not have to be just A to B). When you re finished adding lines, adjust the Transparency back to 100% and you should be able to see the division lines. 6 P a g e

7 Now, click the Assign Rate tool near the left of the window. On the Select Rate box, click one of the rates that we have assigned, then place the cursor over one of your zones (a paint bucket should appear) and click within that zone. You can now select the other rate and assign it to a zone. When finished, you should have a map that shows each rate you assigned in a different color. 7 P a g e

8 On the File menu, click Save As and the Save Dataset window should appear. You may complete this form with the required information. Make sure each box has an entry, click OK. The prescription layer should now appear in your map (see below). You should also see the map in the Management Tree. Notice that planting rates and acres are shown on the right. 8 P a g e
