2 Help and About Computer/Internet Connection: Older computers, as well as slower internet connections, will run the interactive web site slower. Minimizing/closing other processes/programs using bandwidth may help to run the site faster. ipad/mac users: The Kendall County GIS CAMA/Sales GIS Viewer was built using Adobe Flash. Layers and Scale: Some layers will not appear until the user zooms in on the map to a certain scale (Boundaries, Political Townships, Text, Subdivisions, CAMA and Lot SQ FT). Data: Currently it is not possible to download any of the data available on the map. Text Layer/FARMLAND Data: Clicking on the gray arrow next to the check box for Text/FARMLAND data will present a list of all the sublayers within each layer. For example, if the user wants only Acreage labels to display within the Text layer then uncheck all sublayers except for Acreage.

Layer Options a. Zoom to Zooms map to the entire layer b. Transparency Controls how transparent the layer is on the map c. Move up Moves a layer in the layer list up (useful if the user wants to view, for example, Parcels on top of Forest Preserves) d. Move down Moves a layer in the layer list down (for example, move Subdivisions below Parcels) e. Description Displays technical information for the layer 3. Basemap Buttons a. Click and drag the white button from right to left to gradually change the basemap (as the slider approaches the next basemap the previous basemap becomes more transparent) #2 #1 1. Scale Bar a. As the zoom level changes the scale bar adjusts to fit the current scale 2. Latitude/Longitude a. As the cursor moves around the map the values for both Latitude and Longitude change to represent the current cursor location

Clicking on the globe will zoom the map out to the initial extent 2. Previous Extent/Next Extent a. Clicking on the left arrow will move the map to the previous extent (if the map was moved) b. Clicking on the right arrow will move the map to the next extent (will move only when the map has been moved using the Previous Extent button)

8 3. Zoom Slider a. Click the Plus or Minus buttons to zoom in or zoom out b. Click and hold the white button on the zoom slider to zoom in and out 4. Pan/Zoom In/Zoom Out a. Click on the Pan tool (hand) and then click and drag the map to move it around b. Click on the Zoom In tool (Magnifying glass with plus sign) and click and drag a rectangle to zoom into it c. Click on the Zoom Out tool (Magnifying glass with minus sign) and click and drag a rectangle to zoom out from it

Click on the Identify Tool in the tool menu 2. Identify by Point a. Click on the Identify by Point button, then click on the map this will select whatever the point intersects 3. Identify by Polyline a. Click on the Identify by Polyline button, then click on the map to start the line, single click to lengthen or turn the line, and double click to end the line this will select whatever the line intersects

10 4. Identify by Rectangle a. Click on the Identify by Rectangle button, then click and drag on the map to create a rectangle this will select whatever the rectangle intersects 5. Identify by Polygon a. Click on the Identify by Polygon button, then click on the map to start the polygon, single click to add sides to the polygon, then double click to end the polygon this will select whatever the polygon intersects

11 Search Tool Search Using Parcel Number #1 #2 #1a #3 1. Click on the Search Tool in the tool menu a. Click the Select by attribute button 2. Make sure the Search layer box shows Parcels PIN 3. Type in the ten digit Parcel Identification Number (PIN) 4. Click the Search button

12 #5 #6 5. Within the Search window move the cursor over the search results (box turns light blue) and left-click 6. Click on the orange arrow for a link to the Tax Inquiry page for the parcel of interest (contact Township Assessor or County Assessment Office for more information about data on the Tax Inquiry website) 7. The map will zoom in and center on the parcel of interest #7

Click the down arrow to bring up the list of layers to search 3. Available layers to search: a. Parcels PIN search by parcel number b. CAMA search by parcel number for house information c. Sales search by document number for a sale d. Parcels Alternate PIN search by alternate parcel numbers e. Parcels Name search by owner name of a parcel f. Roads search by road name g. Subdivisions search by subdivision name

14 #4 #5 4. Type in the required information (road name, etc ) 5. Click the Search button #6 6. Within the Search window move the cursor over the search results (box turns light blue) and left-click this will zoom in and center the map on the selected item (road, subdivision, etc )

Click on the Draw Point button to select an active layer on the map this will turn the button s background color from black to gray 3. Draw Line/Freehand Line a. Click on the Draw Line button, then click once on the map to begin drawing, additional clicks will add more parts to the line, and double click to finish the line b. Click on the Draw Freehand Line button, then click and drag to draw a continuous line, release to finish drawing the line

16 4. Draw Rectangle/Circle/Polygon/Freehand Polygon a. Click on the Draw Rectangle button, then click and drag on the map to create a rectangle, release to finish the drawing b. Click on the Draw Circle button, then click and drag on the map to create a circle, release to finish the drawing c. Click on the Draw Polygon button, then click once to begin drawing, additional clicks will add sides to the polygon, double click to finish drawing d. Click on the Draw Freehand Polygon button, then click and drag an area on the map to create a polygon, release to finish drawing 5. Click on Clear to clear the selection

Prefix Directional ( E, W, etc ) c. Street Name ( Fox, Main, etc ) d. Street Type ( St, Dr, etc ) e. Unit (Optional could be A or 1 or 1A, etc ) 3. Click the Locate button

Point symbol options to change how the point looks on the map (size, color, etc ) 4. Type a label for the map in the text box, select font, font sizes and colors, and label rotation 3. Click once on the map to place the text

23 #2 #1 1. Save Graphics Layer once a drawing on the map is complete click the Save Graphics Layer button to save the shape 2. Open Saved Graphics Layer if a shape has been saved previously the Open Saved Graphics Layer button will allow the user to open it within the map

24 Legend Tool #1 #3 #2 1. Click on the Legend Tool on the tool menu 2. Layer Name this will only be available in the Legend Tool if the layer is active (checked on under More button) 3. Layer Symbology this is what the layer looks like on the map

25 Print Tool #1 #2 #3 1. Click the Print Tool in the tool menu 2. Type a Title and Subtitle (both optional) for the map 3. Click the Print button to initiate the tool

26 Find Existing House Information (CAMA Data) #1a 1. Search by Parcel Number: a. Click on the Search Tool in the tool menu #1b b. Type the parcel number in the text box click Search #1c c. If there is a small black house on the property then there exists house information for that property if not then no house information exists for that property

27 #1d d. Click on the Identify Tool in the tool menu e. Click on the small black house the Identify Tool window will display the existing house information #1e

28 #2a 2. Search by Address a. Click on the Find an Address Tool in the tool menu #2b b. Type the address of the property in question into the text box

29 #2c #2c - i #2c c. If an address is found it will show up as a result in the Find an Address Tool and a mailbox icon will appear within the property in question i. Click the black area inside the result information to zoom to the property in question #2d d. Click on the Identify Tool in the tool menu

30 #2e e. If there is a small black house on the property then there exists house information for that property if not then no house information exists for that property f. Click on the small black house the Identify Tool window will display the existing house information #2f

31 Troubleshooting 1Q: The website loaded but there isn t anything on the map what is the fix for this? 1A: The first thing to try is to refresh the browser. If that does not work then close the browser and restart it. If it still does not show a map then clear the browser s cache (refer to the browser s help information for instructions on how to do this). 2Q: The website loaded but there are many small windows with error messages in them. What is wrong? 2A: The website periodically undergoes maintenance and when it does the layers on the map are not available for use, thus the error messages seen. Wait minutes and try loading the website again. Unless otherwise posted it should be back up and running by then.

32 3Q: A known and existing address is entered into the Find an Address tool but nothing is found. Is there something wrong? 3A: It may be how it was entered (see Find an Address Tool) or it could be an address that Kendall County GIS does not know. If the user believes the latter to be the case then contact Kendall County GIS. 4Q: A parcel was entered in the Search Tool window and no features were found. What is wrong? 4A: If the entered parcel number had no - then place them within the number (see the example on the search window just below the Search layer). If - were entered then the parcel number may not be a current number. Contact Kendall County GIS for further information about the parcel number.
