2 John Deere Mobile Farm Manager A mobile application that puts customer s agronomic data in their hands at all times and enables users to do more while in the field. 4 Syncing Data from Apex to your mobile device To begin syncing data the user will need to go to the MFM button across the top of Apex. Once on the Mobile Farm Manager page you can select the fields you would like to move to your mobile device in the map tree to the left. After you have selected the fields and layers you would like to move click export in Apex and hit sync in MFM on your mobile device. 4

5 Syncing Data from Apex to your mobile device In order to view your data on your mobile device you must sync that data from your copy of Apex via a Wi-Fi connection. *Note: Data is transferred by Wi-Fi not the internet so both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi Connection. Filter Options The user has the ability to filter the items to be exported to the mobile device. 5

9 Syncing Data from Apex to your mobile device Transfer in progress screens- The time it takes for the transfer to complete is dependant on the amount of data you are transferring. 9

10 Syncing Data from Apex A progress bar will appear followed by a message stating if the transfer was successful. 10

11 Map Viewing Similar to Apex, the user will need to select the client, farm, field, and map layer they would like to view. 11

12 Map Viewing When viewing the chosen field map use the buttons along the bottom of the screen that provide the following options: View the map legend by selecting the title at the top of the page Share the map you are viewing via Begin soil sampling Enable GPS tracking while in the field* Begin navigation from your current location to the field you are viewing. * * With GPS enabled device 12

13 Map Viewing Deleting Map Layers Layer Deletion Individual layers can be deleted from MFM by holding your finger on the layer you would like to delete. Once you have completed a long press you will be prompted with the delete option. The layer will not be deleted until you press that delete button. 13

14 Report Viewing There are two types of reports in Mobile Farm Manager. Reports can be pulled into your mobile device when syncing map layers. When the syncing process is nearly complete a window will pop up in Apex stating there are reports available and will ask if you would like the reports to be transferred as well. 15 Report Viewing When viewing a map with an attached report, you are able to obtain the map report by pressing the top right corner of the screen. The user will see an up turned corner on the screen indicating the map report is available. with GPS enabled device Rate Layer Map Map Report 15

16 Report Viewing Field reports can be accessed by selecting My Reports from the home screen shown on the left. The user will need to select the type of report they would like to see. The user can then scroll through the pages by swiping their finger up and down. The user may need to select the application they would like to use when viewing the report. * with GPS enabled device 16

17 GPS tracking GPS Tracking allows the user to view their position as they move through the field. When GPS is enabled you will see an icon on the screen that will move across the map indicating your position. 17

18 Map Screen Features Sharing Sharing Use this feature to share maps and reports with other mobile devices that also have John Deere Mobile Farm Manager installed 18

19 Map Screen Features Sharing Sharing After selecting the share button you will be asked how long you would like that person to have access to the data. If you select: 1 Year, 30 days, or 7 days the data you are sharing will appear in the shared data section of your partners device. If you select Never Expire the data will appear as though the recipient owns the data and will be viewable in their map and reports list just like their own data. Sharing After selecting the duration for sharing the data, MFM will display an that can address to a trusted advisor. You can edit the or send as is after entering the destination address. 19

20 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Soil Sampling Grid Ability to apply a grid to a field boundary and to lay out your soil sampling locations Soil Sampling Spot Allows the user to sample a specific area by selecting it or by using GPS Grid Sampling can be helpful when little is known about the fields history or if you have newly acquired land. Spot Sampling can be helpful when the user needs to investigate a specific area but does not want to sample the entire field. 20

21 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Spot Sampling Spot Sampling Start by selecting the soil sampling button from the map that you would like to sample then select spot. 21

22 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Spot Sampling Spot Sampling Now you can allow the GPS feature to mark your location (if equipped) or turn GPS off and select the location on the map. Once the location is determined press Take Sample. Spot Sampling After pressing Take Sample you will see a keyboard that allows you to put in an identifier for the sample. If you are taking multiple samples MFM will attempt to increment your ID for you. EX: if you select 1001 for your ID the next ID will populate with This can be changed if needed. When you are satisfied with your ID select Return or Enter. 22

23 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Spot Sampling Spot Sampling You can now see one complete spot and have the choice to complete your sampling or repeat the process for another location in the field. Spot Sampling Once you have completed your Spot Sampling that layer will appear in your map list as shown here. 23

24 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Grid Sampling Grid Sampling Start by selecting the soil sampling button from the map that you would like to sample and then select Grid. 24

25 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Grid Sampling Grid Sampling Now you will need to select the size of grid you would like on your field. These can range from.5 of an acre to 10 acres in half acre increments. From this screen you can also select to turn on Hectors instead of Acres. Once complete press Create Grid Grid Sampling When the grid map generates, if aligning the grid with your map is needed complete by pressing/dragging on the screen, Once you are satisfied with the alignment press Start Sampling 25

If you have GPS enabled the closest grid location will be larger than the others to show you where you should start sampling. If GPS is disabled you can select the grid location by pressing on this icon then press Take Sample. Grid Sampling After pressing Take Sample you will see a keyboard that allows you to enter an identifier for the sample. MFM will attempt to increment your ID for you. EX: if you select 1001 for your ID the next ID will populate with This can be changed if needed. When you are satisfied with your ID select Return or Enter. 26

27 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Grid Sampling Grid Sampling Once you have given a grid location an ID it will change from the icon to the icon to indicate that location is complete. You can now continue to complete all of the grid location but you are not required to use every location. When you are satisfied with the samples you have taken press Sampling Complete. Grid Sampling Once you have completed your Grid Sampling; that layer will appear in your map list as show here. 27

28 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Moving Sampling Layer into Apex Sync Select the Sync icon to begin the process of moving sample data into Apex. Sync Now press Send to allow MFM to prepare the data to be moved into Apex 28

29 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Moving Sampling Layer into Apex Sync After the data is prepared to send you will see a message stating that MFM is waiting for Apex. You can now click Sync in the MFM page of Apex 29

30 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Moving Sampling Layer into Apex Sync If you see a message in Apex asking for the IP Address this means Apex is having trouble finding your Mobile Device. You can copy the IP Address from the mobile device Waiting for Apex message and enter it in the requested box in Apex. 30

31 Map Screen Features Soil Sampling Moving Sampling Layer into Apex Sync The data has now been exported from MFM and is available in the MFM page of Apex. You will need to select the layers you would like to bring into Apex or select all and click Import. Sync Once this message is visible the data from MFM is then available in your map tree of Apex 31

32 Aerial Image and Navigation Feature Aerial Image When viewing a map you can switch to an aerial image by pressing on the Aerial button. To use this feature you will need a data connection and GPS enabled. 32

33 Aerial Image and Navigation Feature Navigation Now that you are viewing an aerial image of a field you can press the Navigation button to get directions to that field from your current location. Once in the Navigations screens you can change your destination to whatever you would like. 33

35 General Features Drawing and Erasing General Features Draw On any map that is brought into Mobile Farm Manager from Apex, you have the ability to draw on the map using the touch screen to draw attention to a specific area. 35

36 General Features Drawing and Erasing General Features Erase To remove the drawing you made simply press the erase button on the map with the drawing and it will be erased. The erase button will erase all drawing on the current screen. 36

37 General Features Drawing and Erasing General Features Sharing Drawings After making a drawing you can share that map and drawing with a partner. Once you have completed the drawing you can select the share button. Then you will need to select the duration of time you would like the map shared for. Lastly fill in the address you would like the map sent to and press send. Your partner will need to open his on the device he would like the map to be downloaded to and press the link in his . An example of the map they will see is below. 37

38 Frequently Asked Questions Why did only some of my maps show up in Mobile Farm Manager? This happens when transferring begins but the Wi-Fi connection drops while transmitting. I get 2 activations for Apex how many devices can I use Mobile Farm Manager on? The MFM app is free and can be installed on as many devices as you own. To sync your data from Apex to your mobile device you will need to purchase a MFM activation for Apex through your dealer. That activation is good for 2 copies of Apex. How can I use MFM to soil sample specific zones but not the entire field? You will want to start by selecting grid sampling, then only take samples from zones that line up with both your grid and the zone you would like to sample. Since you do not have to take samples from every grid square you can complete the sampling process once you have sampled the areas you would like, while leaving the other areas blank.
