6 Application Overview Application Overview About Broadcast Supervisor Broadcast Supervisor enables the monitoring and management of software and hardware elements of ADC Playout Automation systems and provides enhanced monitoring, logging, tracking, management, error messaging, and status reporting. Broadcast Supervisor permits a single operator to monitor multiple ADC Playout Automation implementations from a single workstation. Its graphical user interface (GUI) enhances the ability of operators to intuitively grasp the status of operational activities across all monitored automation implementations. Functions and Features Broadcast Supervisor is available through a client installed on the same workstation on which Air Client is already installed, or on a separate workstation. Installation on the Air Client workstation eliminates the need for additional hardware and enhances operator productivity. Broadcast Supervisor functions include: System configurability. Broadcast Supervisor can be configured to: Provide remote access Continually display using dual-monitors. This configuration makes it possible for an operator to view and manage multiple applications by toggling between screens. The ability to monitor and diagnose multiple ADC Transmission Lists simultaneously. Connecting across an automation local area network (LAN), one instance of Broadcast Supervisor can monitor 2 different ADC Device Controllers, up to 100 devices, and 8 Transmission lists per Device Server for a total of 16 monitored Transmission lists Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. 15-May-2015 Page 6

7 Application Overview Enables the viewing of all aspects of the broadcast operation under automation control, including on-air operations as well as related transfer and media prep. The easy-to-read, highly configurable display gives access to Errors and Device Status Windows simultaneously for multiple lists. Error messages are displayed by category and by severity, as required by the operator. The ability for Broadcast Supervisor to monitor hardware problems. MultiServer Login. (For this functionality Broadcast Supervisor needs a special version of ADC Server.) Broadcast Supervisor features include: The ability to display vertical list and multi-list (timeline-based) window of all lists with Time Zone support. The ability to simultaneously display the device controller status windows. Support for the overhauled ADC Error Messages (with IDs up to 32 characters). Support of persistence of error messages. Link the error to the event. Broadcast Supervisor makes it easy to link the error to the event that was running when the error occurred. For example: When an operator double-clicks on an Error Message associated with a playlist in the Error Grid, the Transmission List to which the error belongs is automatically shifted to the top screen, and the Event that was running is highlighted. Customers can configure the application so that errors trigger messages, an alarm or an alert sound. This ensures problems are reported quickly to the right points of contact. It is possible to connect several Broadcast Supervisors to one Device Server. The Broadcast Supervisor instances: Are displayed with "Diagnostic Monitor" type of login in the Device Server. Display the client name in the main window caption of the Broadcast Supervisor. System Requirements Computer Processor Intel Pentium III 1 GHz, (recommended Pentium GHz or greater) RAM 1 GB 30 GB of free Hard Drive Space. Intel Network Interface Card (Pro 100S) GigE Gigabit NIC and Ethernet switch is required Network Interface Card Use GigE for both client and server. Mixed server GigE and 10/100 in client is not recommended! When communicating via NETBIOS over TCP/IP a Gigabit NIC and switch are required.100mb/1gb 2015 Imagine Communications Corp. 8 Application Overview Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit) IPV6 Network Protocol (installed separately) About Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6): ADC1000 supports IPV6 for networking. IPv6 (IPng) is an upgrade to the Internet Protocol, that is designed to rectify the addressing problems in IPv4, and to provide a way to interpret, assign, and use addresses in a way more in line with modern internetworking. It will coexist with the older IPv4. Ensure the Windows default Firewall is DISABLED on the Device Server, Air Client, Media Client and Config Tool, and Broadcast Supervisor Client. Important Device Server Connection Note: When running Microsoft Windows 7, a TCP/IP connection to the Device Server is not supported. Only a NetBIOS connection is supported. This restriction applies to the Device Server connection only. ADC Device Server Version Use Broadcast Supervisor v or higher with ADC Device Server v12.19 or higher. IMPORTANT: Please check with Technical Support prior to installing Broadcast Supervisor in a v12 environment as it is important to verify compatibility with the end user s ADC v12 configuration Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. 15-May-2015 Page 8

15 Display Overview Multi Lists Window The Multi Lists window is helpful when monitoring multiple playlists for critical event statuses, such as missing media. Too many standard list windows may result in a critical event status being overlooked. For example, a missing media event status in one playlist may be covered by another playlist if several standard list windows are open. The Multi Lists window displays up to 16 playlists in a single window. Consolidating playlists into one window reduces screen clutter caused by opening a standard list window for each playlist. To display the Multi Lists window, click the Multi Lists Window button ( ). Multi Lists Ribbon bar These icons provide quick access to functionality on the Multi Lists Window. Multi Lists Desktop Save Multi Lists Desktop Save Multi Lists Window configuration colors and opened playlists. Restore Multi Lists Desktop Restore previously saved configuration. Playlists and Events In the Multi Lists window, playlists are displayed horizontally with each event contained in a cell. Each cell lists up to three lines of fields. Visibility of fields will vary according to the number of lines in a cell, the number of fields and the size of the cell. Timelines Timelines help track an event s start and end times. An event s position in a playlist is relative to the timelines. The left border of an event s cell corresponds with its start time on the timelines. For example, if the left border of an event s cell is aligned with 09:22:00 on the absolute timeline, then the 2015 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. 15-May-2015 Page 16

17 Display Overview event s start time is 9:22 a.m. The same principle applies to the right border of an event s cell, which represents the end time. There are three timelines in the Multi Lists window: absolute, relative and current. Absolute Timeline The absolute timeline displays the past, present and future time on a horizontal, auto-scrolling scale. The units of measurement range from one-minute to two-hour intervals. Relative Timeline The relative timeline starts measuring increments in time from the network server s system time, relative to the absolute time. The network server s system time is represented as 0:00 on the relative timeline. Current Timeline The vertical line intersecting playlists is the current timeline. On the absolute timeline, it is positioned at the network server s system time. When it intersects an event s cell, the event is playing. You can estimate how much of an event has played based on where the current timeline intersects it. Zoom Line To magnify (or de-magnify) events in the Multi Lists window, use the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons. The zoom line is the focal point of the zooming functions. Using the zoom buttons reduces or enlarges the playlists from the zoom line. Move the zoom line by dragging it to another location on the absolute timeline with the mouse.
