4 The Emergency Alert System (EAS) feature enables Versio to receive and broadcast standard FCC compliant (S.A.M.E.) EAS messages from a supported EAS encoder. The current supported EAS encoders include the Sage Endec, Sage Digital Endec, and the TFT EAS 911. See the following topics for details on setting up Versio for EAS output. Required Hardware Components To setup the Versio system for EAS operations you will need the following hardware components. Yellowtec PUC2 Audio Interface USB Y-cable (ships with Yellowtec PUC2 audio interface) GPI/AB4 Fanout Cable (ships with Versio system) Sage or TFT EAS Device Serial Null Modem Cable Connect EAS Hardware Components to the Versio System 1. Use the USB Y-cable to connect the Yellowtec PUC2 audio interface to two USB ports on the back of the Versio system. 2. Use a Serial Null Modem cable to connect the Sage or TFT device to the COM port on the back of the Versio system. 3. Connect GPI 1 (labeled A) on the GPI/AB4 fanout cable to the proper relay on the EAS device: Connect to the ATTN relay on a Sage device. Connect to the ON-AIR relay on a TFT device. Note: Refer to the Sage or TFT EAS documentation for details on the EAS settings for your specific device. Enable EAS in Magellan Configuration Manager 1. 5 2. In the address bar, enter the IP address of the Versio system. The Versio Console opens in the browser. Note: If the Authentication feature is enabled in the Software Manager, you will be prompted to login before you can access the Versio Console. 3. Click the Edit Software Settings option under Magellan Tools. The Magellan Configuration Manager opens in the browser. 4. Click the Edit Settings button on the Versio plug-in line. 6 5. Switch to the Automation tab. 6. In the EAS section: a. Select the Enable EAS checkbox. b. From the Device drop-down list, select your EAS device type: Sage or TFT. Note: The EAS device always uses COM 2 and is controlled with GPI Click the Save Changes button. The Save dialog opens. 8. Enter a description of the changes and click Save. The Versio settings screen closes, and the plug-in line in the Configuration Editor displays the MODIFIED using editor highlight. 9. Click the Push Config to Device button. 10. 7 Create the EAS Layout on the Versio Creation Station Open IconStation EAS layouts are created using the Creation Station, which is installed on a dedicated system and includes offline versions of the browser-based Versio tools as well as the IconStation application. 1. On the dedicated Creation Station system, double-click the Versio Console shortcut on the desktop. The offline Versio Console opens in a browser. 2. Click the Manage Layouts option. The Manage Layouts tool opens with the layouts listed that are available on the offline system. 3. In the local Manage Layouts tool click the Create New Layout button. 4. In the layout dialog, select a layer for the new layout. 5. Enter a name for the EAS layout. 6. Click the New Layout button in the dialog. The IconStation application opens with the new layout name displayed on the appropriate layer tab. Add Crawl Items to the Layout In the IconStation Offline application, create an EAS layout with three crawl items and one live audio item. Each crawl item allows you to format your text based on the EAS severity level. When the EAS device sends information to Versio, the content plays in the appropriate crawl item based on the severity level Imagine Communications. Proprietary and Confidential. 4/29/2014 Page 7
8 1. Click the Crawl button and drag a crawl item box in your workspace. 2. In the Name field below the workspace, enter "Severity 1" as your item name. 3. Click the Edit button beside the Name field to open the Crawl Editor. 4. On the Content tab, select the Field 1 entry in the Content Items list and click the Modify button. The Add Content dialog opens. Note: You must select Field 1 for EAS text. Any other items added to the crawl will display as normal Imagine Communications. 9 5. Select the Text option on the left, and then enter your sample text in the Content text box. 6. Click OK to close the dialog. 7. In the Crawl Editor, select the EAS checkbox. 8. In the Play Item box, enter the number of times you want the EAS message to play. 9. Use the Formatting tab to set the appearance for your crawl text. 10. Click Save to save the settings for the "Severity 1" crawl item. 11. Repeat the above steps to add two more crawl items to your layout named "Severity 2" and "Severity 3" Imagine Communications. 10 Note: To open the Crawl Editor, you can double-click on the item in the Items list on the Control panel. Add a Live Audio Item to the Layout 1. Click the Live Audio button. When you click the Live Audio button, the live audio item is automatically added to the layout. The item displays in the Item list on the Control panel Imagine Communications. 11 2. Double-click the Live Audio item in the Items list on the Control panel to open the Live Audio Editor. 3. Select the Enable Audio Ducking checkbox to trigger a reduction in the audio level of other items that are playing when you output the live audio item. The volume reduction occurs when the live audio is sent to air. The Lower All Audio by System Default option lowers the volume by the amount set in the Preferences dialog (Edit > Preferences). The Lower All Audio by Custom Amount option lowers the volume by the amount you enter. Note: You do not need to change the selections from the Device and Source lists. The layout will automatically use the default audio device/source on the Versio system. However, to save, there must be an audio device installed on the offline system. 4. 12 Return to the Versio Console Graphics layouts created in IconStation are saved automatically. Changes are reflected immediately in the offline Versio Console tools, including the Graphics Control tool and the Manage Layouts tool. Setup Your EAS Output in the Salvo Editor Create Salvos for the Crawl Output The Salvo Editor is accessible through the Graphics Control tool on the offline Versio Creation Station system. To setup your layout for EAS output you need to create three salvos named: Severity 1, Severity 2, and Severity 3. During playout, <HarewareName> will read the severity level from your EAS device and output the message in the appropriate crawl item. 1. In the offline Versio Console, click the Graphics Control option. The Graphics Control tool opens with the layouts loaded that are currently loaded in IconStation on the offline system. 2. Select the loaded EAS layout and then click the New Salvo button. 3. In the Salvo Name field, enter "Severity 1" for the name of your salvo. 4. Add a transition to the Severity 1 crawl to set the crawl to play when the Versio system receives the EAS information from your EAS device Imagine Communications. 13 a. Click the Effects and Actions heading to view the available transitions. b. Select a transition from the list on the Transitions tab. c. Drag the transition onto the Severity 1 crawl timeline. d. Select the transition box on the timeline Imagine Communications. Proprietary and Confidential. 4/29/2014 Page 13
14 e. Click the Effect Properties heading to view the transition settings. f. In the Start field, update the value to change the start point. Time is measured in seconds by default. A value of 2.50 will start the transition 2.5 seconds after the layout is triggered for output. You can also drag the transition box on the timeline to a new start point. g. In the Duration field, update the value to change how long the transition takes to complete. Time is measured in seconds by default. You can also drag the left or right edge of the transition box to increase or decrease the duration. The duration updates in the transition box. h. Click Apply to save the updated Effect Properties. 5. Click Save to save the salvo for your "Severity 1" crawl item. The "Severity 1" salvo displays in the Salvo list in the Graphics Control tool. 6. Repeat these steps to create a salvo for the Severity 2 and Severity 3 crawls. Make sure to: Name the salvo appropriately ("Severity 2" or "Severity 3"). Show the correct item by dragging the transition onto the appropriate "Severity 2" or "Severity 3" crawl item. Add a Live Audio Salvo In the Graphics Control tool, click the New Salvo button. The Salvo Editor opens. 1. In the Salvo Name field, enter a name for the live audio salvo. 2. Select the live audio timeline. 3. In the Salvo Trigger section: a. Select the GPI checkbox. b. Select 1 from the GPI drop-down list Imagine Communications. Proprietary and Confidential. 4/29/2014 Page 14
15 c. Select the Kill Shown Items on GPI Lower checkbox. This will set the live audio to stop when the alert is over. 4. Drag a transition onto the Live Audio item timeline to set the item to play when the Versio system receives the EAS information from your EAS device. Note: For details on adding a transition, see step 4 in Create Salvos for the Crawl Output (on page 12). 5. Click Save to save the salvo. The salvo displays in the Salvo list. Publish the EAS Layout to the Versio System When the EAS layout is complete and the salvos are added, publish the EAS layout to the Versio system. 1. Open the local Manage Layouts tool on the Creation Station system (Versio Console desktop shortcut > Manage Layouts). 2. Click the Publish button on the EAS layout line. 3. In the Publish dialog that opens, select the check box for the Versio system. If a Versio system is not listed: a. Click the Add a Versio button in the Publish dialog. b. In the dialog that opens, enter the Versio system name in the Device ID field. c. Enter the IP address of the Versio system in the IP Address/Host field. d. Click the Add Device button. The Versio system details display in the list. e. Click Save. The dialog closes and the Versio system is listed in the Publish dialog. 4. In the Publish dialog, click the Publish button. The EAS layout is published to the Versio system. Assign the Layout to the EAS Layer in the Graphics Control Tool After you publish the EAS layout to the Versio system, use the Graphics Control tool to assign the layout to the EAS layer for output. 1. 16 2. In the address bar, enter the IP address of the Versio system. The Versio Console opens in the browser. The Graphics Control screen displays in the browser. 4. On the Graphics Control screen, select the top EAS layout slot. Note: The EAS layout slot is available after you enable EAS in Magellan Configuration Manager. See Enable EAS in Magellan Configuration Manager (on page 4) for details. 5. Click the Load Layout button. A list of all the layouts on the Versio system displays. 6. Select the EAS layout from the list and click the Load Layout button. The EAS layout is loaded into the EAS layout slot on the Graphics Control screen and in the corresponding IconStation EAS layer. 7.
