Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewAbout DAL VICC About DAL VICC Overview Event Fields The DAL VICC - Schedule Download / File Export application runs on a Windows workstation. It is compatible with D-Series automation software and includes Schedule Server support. DAL VICC - Schedule Download: Uses the current schedule server protocol to read schedule events from the D- Series automation system and write them to a specified location. Monitors playlist on selected channels Writes a subset of event data to a text file for each channel Typically stores the text files on System Manager for external access. Updates files when event records change The event fields that VICC monitors and writes to each text line are configurable within the limits of ten event fields or 256 bytes. The position and size of each event field is also configurable. For details see Configure Output File Fields. If a field configuration is not defined, the following default configuration will be used. Note: Each line is terminated by a carriage return/line feed sequence. Field Name Offset Size Format Event Type 0 1 E, H, B, -, blank or as defined in the character mapping table. E = event record H = header record, B = Break Information record - = Comment record Start Time 2 11 hh:mm:ss:ff Start Type , TT, MAN, EXT, NET or blank Duration h:mm:ss:ff Material ID ASCII characters (upper case alpha & numeric) Type of Material 44 3 Mnn, S, C, T, I, K, X or blank Event Title ASCII characters (upper case alpha & numeric) Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 5 of 26

Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewConfiguration Configuration About Configuring DAL VICC The DAL VICC application is configured through its menus. The configuration is saved to a file on hard disk so that settings are retained when the application is shutdown and restarted. Setting IP Addresses and Port Number The IP addresses and port number are set up in the Configuration > Network Connection menu. 1 From the main menu select Configuration > Network Connection. This displays the Configure a Network Connection dialog. 2 Specify Main and Backup CPU IP Addresses The Schedule Download application allows up to two IP addresses to be specified. These are normally set to the IP addresses of the main and backup automation computers. If an IP address is set to , it is disabled. 3 Specify the Port Number The port number also needs to be set to a non-zero value, e.g The automation computers must be set for the same port number (SYSTEM.CFG parameter sch_svr_port=12099 ). 4 Click OK Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 9 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewConfiguration Selecting Buses to Generate Schedule Download Files After the Schedule Download application has successfully connected to the automation system, it downloads a list of buses. This list is displayed in the Bus Selection dialog box. Note: The Schedule Download application supports a maximum of 25 buses To Select Busses 1 From the main menu select Configuration > Add or Remove a Bus. This displays the Add a Bus dialog. 2 From the dialog select the busses you want to display. Selected buses are displayed on the left side of the split screen. 3 Click OK. Specifying the Output File Directory The Schedule Download files are written to the current directory by default. The Schedule Download files are formatted from the bus name, with a.vic extension, e.g. if a bus name is BUS1, the output file is named BUS1.VIC. To Specify a Different Directory 1 From the main menu select Configuration > Output File. The Output File Configuration dialog box is displayed Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 10 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewConfiguration 2 Specify a different directory in the Output File Configuration dialog. 3 Save the entry. The setting is saved in the VICC.INI configuration file. There should be no need to edit the VICC.INI file settings directly. Specify the Number of Events per file The number of events written to the file can be specified up to a maximum of 50 events. 1 From the main menu select Configuration > Output File. The Output File Configuration dialog box is displayed. 2 Specify the number of events written to the file. IMPORTANT: Increasing the number of events increases the load on the automation computer. Set Event Polling Times The Schedule Download application polls the automation system for event information. It reads the next event on each selected bus more frequently than it reads rest of the events. The default values for these polling periods are 5 seconds and 30 seconds. If the application detects that the next event has changed, it reads the remaining events immediately. To Modify Event Polling Periods Polling periods cannot be set on-line, but may be changed in the vicc.ini configuration file Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 11 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewConfiguration 1 Use an ASCII text editor, such as Text Pad or WordPad to open the Schedule Download.INI configuration file. 2 Modify the [File] section parameters FastScanPeriod and SlowScanPeriod Note: Reducing the scanning periods imposes a higher load on the automation computer, and may affect the performance of other automation functions. VICC version v1.07 and higher enforce a minimum slow refresh period of 30 seconds, if the number of exported events is set to greater than 500. This overrides the slow refresh period, in seconds, that is configured with the SlowScanPeriod parameter in the [Network] section of the vicc.ini file. 4 The Schedule Download.INI file is created or updated automatically whenever the Schedule Download application configuration is changed. Write the On-Air Event to Output File The on-air event differs from other events, in that the event date and time traditionally show the current date and time, and the duration field traditionally shows the remaining event duration. Since these values are not readily available through Schedule Server protocol, and since changing values would cause the output file to be rewritten frequently, these fields (utc_date, b_date, time, duration) are replaced with the string ON-AIR in the output file in the Schedule Download Application display. To include the on-air event in the Schedule Download output files The on-air event can be included in the Schedule Download output files, as the first line in the file. 1 From the main menu select Configuration > Output File. The Output File Configuration dialog box is displayed Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 12 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewConfiguration 2 Under Output File Options, select (check) Include On-Air Event to include the on-air event can in the Schedule Download output files. 3 Click OK. The setting is saved in the [File] section of the VICC.INI configuration file. There should be no need to edit the VICC.INI file settings directly. Include As-run log entries in the VICC output files VICC v and higher can optionally include as-run log entries in the VICC output files. These output files can be used by an external 3rd party application to calculate the total commercial break time in the schedule for the previous 60 minutes, the current 60 minutes, and the next 60 minutes. The as-run log entries are written to the output file first, in increasing time order, followed by the on-air event record (if enabled) and the upcoming schedule records. The number of as-run records to include in the file can be configured, up to a maximum of 100 records. Note: If enabled, the on-air event record has its event date, time, and duration fields replaced with the words ON-AIR. To Configure As-Run Record Inclusion in the Output File Use the following procedure to configure the inclusion of as-run records in the output file and the number of as-run records to include. 1 From the main menu select Configuration > Output File. The Output File Configuration dialog box is displayed. 2 Under Output File Options, select (check) Include As-Run Records to enable inclusion of as-run log entries in the output file. By default, this option is disabled. (This is saved in the Vicc.ini file as IncludeAsRunLog.) Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 13 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewConfiguration 3 Under Output File Options, for Number of Records specify the number of as-run records to include in the output file. (Default: 10 records, Maximum: 100 records.) (This is saved in the Vicc.ini file as MaxAsRun.) 4 Click OK. The setting is saved in the [File] section of the VICC.INI configuration file. There should be no need to edit the VICC.INI file settings directly. Copy Event Time and True-Time Flag from Master Events to Follow Events The Schedule Download application can automatically copy event data (event time and true-time flag) for all master/follow events that are displayed. Master and follow busses must be enabled in Schedule Download application (e.g. a Schedule Download output file must be created for both a master and follow bus). To enable automatic copy from Master Events 1 From the main menu select Configuration > Output File. The Output File Configuration dialog box is displayed. 2 Under Copy Master Event Data, select (check) to enable copy of Event Time and/or True-Time Flag. 3 Click OK. The setting is saved in the VICC.INI configuration file. There should be no need to edit the VICC.INI file settings directly Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 14 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewConfiguration What happens during event data copy? The Schedule Download application display shows the master/follow fields. The Schedule Download application assumes that the Nth master event in the master bus BBBBB corresponds with the Nth follow event F BBBBB in the follow bus. Other information in the schedule and external events may cause the schedule to be switched differently. If the relationship between master and follow events changes as the schedule advances, the event data (event time and true-time flag) are recopied. Configure Output File Fields The fields to be included in the Schedule Download output files are configured in the Schedule Download.INI file. Create a Field Configuration To create a field configuration, add a [Fields] section to the file, and in this section put one line for each field that is to be included in the output file, in the following format: [Fields] field_1=<offset>,<size> field_2=<offset>,<size> Where, Notes: field_1, field_2, etc. are D-MAS field names, <offset> is the column offset of the field in the output file, <size> is the size of the field in the output file. - Fields in the output file are truncated or blank padded as required. - The maximum number of fields that can be included in the file is 16; additional field entries are ignored. - The maximum output file record length is 256 bytes. - Only ASCII fields, the B_DATE and UTC_DATE fields are supported. - If the [Fields] section is omitted from the Schedule Download.INI file, the field configuration defaults to the hard-coded configuration used by previous software versions. An example field layout: [Fields] b_date=1,8 time=10,11 video_src=22,8 duration=31, Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 15 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewConfiguration video_item=42,32 video_intime=75,11 comment1=87,66 Broadcast Date and UTC Date in Output File The binary fields B_DATE (broadcast date) and UTC_DATE (UTC date) can be included in the output field format. These date fields are written in the format mm/dd/yy. Note: The new B_DATE field is only available in new D-Series releases Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 16 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewLAN Manager Setup LAN Manager Setup To Increase the Number of Sockets The LAN Manager configuration must be modified to increase the maximum number of sockets. Note: This should be sufficient for most applications, but will depend on the number of sockets connections used by the automation system. 1 Navigate to the C:\LANMAN.DOS directory and locate 2 Use an ASCII text editor, such as Text Pad or WordPad to open the TCPUTILS.INI file. 3 Edit the TCPUTILS.INI file: Increase the value of the parameter numsockets" from the default value of 4 to Save the file (standard ASCII) and exit Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 17 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewOperation Operation About DAL VICC Operations The operation of VICC is straightforward. There are two options for running the VICC application: Create shortcuts to the executable file, vicc.exe, as required OR Run it directly from the command line. Note: Run only one instance of the application at a time. Operation Features Prominent operation features of the Schedule Download application include: Start Type Field: The Schedule Download application reads the first character of the START_TYPE field. The START_TYPE field can contain the value - or TT to indicate the event is a true-time event. If the Schedule Download application finds a T in the first character of this field, it translates it to a -. This maintains the format of the Schedule Download files that are written to disk. Loss of Connection Detection: If the Schedule Download Schedule File Export application detects that the connection with the automation system has been lost, it will automatically reconnect. Note: The A7500 automation software also correctly detects when the Schedule Download application drops the connection, allowing it to reconnect. Confirmation on Exit: A confirmation dialog box is displayed when the Schedule Download application is closed. Bus Numbering in Display Title: Bus numbering is displayed at the top of the Schedule Download application screen. Status Messages on Message Bar: The status bar displays messages that indicate the current status of the Schedule Download application, e.g. which bus is being scanned, etc. Cursor Behavior: The cursor changes to the wait cursor when the application is busy scanning Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 18 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewOperation About Slow Scan vs. Fast Scan During normal operations if a change is noted in the schedule file during scan operations - as required - the file is locked, 'on-air and next event' updated, the file 'unlocked', and then the file re-opened at a later time to write the 'rest' of the list. In VICC and higher the algorithm used by the VICC application to scan automation schedules has been modified to improve its responsiveness. In previous versions, the slow scan (scan of upcoming events in all bus schedules) held off the fast scan (scan of the on-air and next events in a schedule), delaying the update of on-air and next events in the output files. For example, with 12 buses and 500 events per bus, the slow scan would take approximately 5 seconds per bus, and a total of 1 minute to complete. This caused the fast scan to be delayed by approximately one minute. In version and higher, the fast scan is allowed to run between the slow scans for individual buses, reducing the delay from approximately one minute to 5 seconds. This allows the fast scan to run closer to the configured time, avoiding the delays encountered in previous versions. Schedule File Export The VICC application: Uses schedule server protocol to connect to automation Reads upcoming events, on-air events, and as-run log events for selected buses Writes them to output files for external 3rd party applications to use (Option) Include As-run log entries in the output file. (For details see Configure As-run log entries in the VICC output files.) Polls automation reading on-air and next event more often, schedule and as-run events less often or when the next event changes. Example: VICC Schedule File Export screen If enabled, as-run log entries are displayed on the VICC application display in the same order that they are written to the output file. The display shows as-run log entries first, in increasing time order, followed by the on-air event and the upcoming schedule events. As-run log events are displayed on a grey background, to distinguish them from upcoming schedule events. The on-air event is displayed on a reddish background. Upcoming schedule events are displayed on a clear / white background. These colors are not configurable Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 19 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewOperation Example Output File (in Notepad) Output files can be opened and viewed using a standard ASCII text editor, such as NotePad or WordPad. Print and Print Preview To Print the current display from VICC, from the main menu select File > Print Preview. To Print Preview the output of the current display from VICC, from the main menu select File > Print Preview Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 20 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewDiagnostic Logging Diagnostic Logging About Diagnostic Logging The Schedule Download Application supports saving diagnostic log messages to a disk file. The diagnostic logging levels work similarly to those in the D-MAS automation: a numerical log level specifies the amount of logging (all diagnostic messages at or below the active log level are recorded in the diagnostic log file). The Schedule Download Application checks periodically to see if any diagnostic log files are older than the configured retention time and, if so, deletes them. The Schedule Download.INI file The diagnostic log file is controlled by the following settings in the Schedule Download.INI file: [Diagnostic Log - File Settings] Log File Directory=<log file directory path> Log File Extension=<log file extension> Log File Enabled=x Max File Size (kb)=n Days to Keep Files=m Where, <log file directory path>: The directory where diagnostic log files are written. If this entry is omitted, or it does not describe a writable directory (with the permissions available to the Windows user account that launched the Schedule Download Application), then diagnostic logging is disabled. <log file extension> is the file extension for diagnostic log files. Normally there is no need to specify this, as it defaults to log. The value x is set to: 0 (zero) to disable logging completely, 1 (one) to enable logging. (Default) Since logging is enabled by default, it only necessary to specify this value to disable logging without clearing the Log File Directory entry specifying <log file directory path>. The value n is the maximum file size (32767 kbytes) for a diagnostic log file in kilobytes. (Default: kbytes, if not specified). (For details on the 32767kb limit see below: Informative Display for Max File Size.) The value m is the number of days old log files are retained (Default: 7 days) Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 21 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewDiagnostic Logging To Disable Logging To disable / not enable logging, either: Omit the section [Diagnostic Log - File Settings] from the Schedule Download.INI. OR Omit the <log file directory path> entry from [Diagnostic Log - File Settings]. To Enable Logging To enable diagnostic logging it is sufficient to specify the following entries: [Diagnostic Log - File Settings] Log File Directory=<log file directory path> The other parameters default to sensible values. To Modify Diagnostic Logging Settings The operator can modify some of the diagnostic logging settings from the Diagnostic Logging Settings dialog. 1 From the main menu select Configuration > Diagnostic Logging. The Diagnostic Logging Settings dialog is displayed. o The upper portion of the dialog displays log file settings: Number of Days to Keep, Max. File Size (kb) and Logging Enabled (The log file directory is displayed, but cannot be edited). o The lower portion of the dialog lists the settings for the individual Schedule Download Application systems for which diagnostic logging is available. If diagnostic logging is not configured (i.e. If no diagnostic log file directory is specified, then a message box appears stating: Diagnostic logging is disabled, as a directory to store the log files has not been specified. 2 Select a system from the list. 3 To alter the amount of logging (increase, decrease or restore to default), select the button labeled Adjust Logging Level for Selected System. 4 To restore all logging for all systems to their defaults, select the button All to Default. 5 To store the log levels in the Schedule Download.INI file and restore them the next time the application is started, select the check box Remember these logging levels the next time the application is started Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 22 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewDiagnostic Logging If this box is not checked, the new settings are only effective until the Schedule Download Application is exited (or further changes are made). Informative Display for Max File Size VICC v and higher the maximum log file size is limited to KB. This restriction may be lifted in a future software version. Note: No warning is displayed if a larger value is entered in the Diagnostic Logging configuration dialog, but the maximum value of kbytes is used, and saved in the VICC.INI configuration file. If the VICC.INI file is edited directly and a value greater than is specified for the Max File Size (kb) parameter, a warning message is displayed when the VICC application is started. The larger value is ignored and a value of kbytes is used. Note: This warning message will continue to be displayed each time the application is started, until the VICC.INI file parameter is corrected or the file size is changed from the Diagnostic Logging configuration dialog Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 23 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewTroubleshooting Troubleshooting Rules and Cautions When troubleshooting Schedule Download issue please be aware of the following cautions and rules: Restarting the Schedule Download application several times can cause it to no longer connect, until the automation software is rebooted. Always shut down the Schedule Download application before restarting the automation software. Automation Does not Detect Schedule Download Disconnect Issue The automation system may not always detect that the Schedule Download application has disconnected. Resolution Shut down and restart the Schedule Download application. Schedule Download Does not Detect Automation Disconnect Issue The Schedule Download application does not detect when the automation software has been shut down and restarted, and may not try to reconnect. Resolution Shut down and restart the Schedule Download application * LAN Manager Server Socket Connections Issue If the Schedule Download application is trying to make a connection while the automation software is started, the automation system may not be able to initialize its server socket. Resolution Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 24 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewTroubleshooting Automatic System Retry: If diagnostic logging is enabled, an error is logged reading Cannot bind listen socket. The automation retries periodically (currently every 17 seconds). Operator Intercession: If connection does not succeed after several automatic retries, the operator can do the following: 1 Shut down the Schedule Download application 2 Wait until the automation initializes its socket. This should happen within approximately 1 minute. A message is logged with the text Bound listen socket. Note: This appears to be a limitation of the LAN Manager software. 3 Restart the Schedule Download application. 4 Once the automation software has successfully initialized, the Schedule Download application can be shut down and restarted without incident Harris Corporation Proprietary and Confidential 22-September-2011 Page 25 of 26
Dal Vicc - Schedule Download/File Export OverviewReference Reference Example VICC.INI file When vic.exe is run, it automatically generates the vicc.ini file.
