3 Nexio IconStation SNMP Support Nexio IconStation SNMP Support The Nexio IconStation systems comply with the SNMP protocol for extensive system health monitoring through third-party SNMP monitoring applications. Imagine Communications provides management information base (MIB) files which allow access to IconStation I/O and motherboard health information. See SNMP Test Procedures (on page 5) to learn how to set up and view information using a standard third-party MIB browser. Supported System Health Monitors The following system health monitors are supported through SNMP. 1. System fan RPM monitors a. Midplane system fans (four) a. CPU fans (two) 2. System heat level monitors a. CPU(s) heat b. System heat 3. Power supply voltage levels a. +12V rail b. -12V rail c. +5V rail d. -5V rail e. +3.3V rail f. CPU core voltage Supported SNMP Traps System health status is interpreted by the device being monitored, and SNMP trap messages are sent when the pre-set thresholds are exceeded. The following SNMP traps are supported. 1. Power supply redundant module failure warning. 2. CPU heat level warning. 3. System heat level warning. 4. System bypass Degraded Mode Subsystems The following subsystems switch into degraded mode when necessary. System drive (degraded mirror*). 5 SNMP Test Procedures SNMP Test Procedures This section describes how to set up and view I/O board and Supermicro health information using a standard third-party MIB browser. Consult your browser s documentation to learn how to apply these settings to your particular software. Download Resources Access ftp://ftp.inscriber.com/tech_support/snmpsupport to download and unzip the MIB_Resources.zip file, which contains the following MIB files. PHOENIX_ICONSTATION.MIB SUPERMICRO-HEALTH-MIB.MIB SUPERMICRO-SMI.MIB Configure IconStation System Configure your IconStation system to send SNMP traps to the SNMP monitoring system. 1. On your system, choose START > Settings > Control Panel. The Control Panel opens. 2. Choose Administrative Tools > Services. The Services window opens. 3. Right-click the SNMP Service entry and choose Properties. The SNMP Service Properties window opens. 4. Switch to the Traps tab. 5. Choose a community from the Community Name drop-down list. If you need to add a new community, enter a name in the Community Name drop-down list and click the Add to List button Imagine Communications. Proprietary and Confidential. 3/28/2014 Page 5

6 SNMP Test Procedures 6. Click the Add button to add the host name or IP address of your SNMP monitoring system. If you have multiple monitoring systems, add additional destinations as necessary. 7. When you are finished adding trap destinations, click the OK button. Configure SNMP Monitoring System Before you can monitor the IconStation system, you must configure your SNMP monitoring system with the correct MIB files and connection information. Consult your MIB browser s documentation to learn how to apply these settings. 1. On the SNMP monitoring system, launch your third-party MIB browser. 2. Load the following files in your MIB browser. PHOENIX.MIB SUPERMICRO-HEALTH-MIB.MIB SUPERMICRO-SMI.MIB files. 3. Configure the MIB browser to access the IconStation machine using the following settings. Port 161. The community name that you chose in the broadcast system s SNMP Service Properties window. SNMP version 2. Your SNMP monitoring system is now configured to monitor the IconStation system. Monitor IconStation System To view the IconStation system s motherboard health, walk the smhealthmonitortable entry inside SUPERMICRO-HEALTH.MIB/smHealthObjects. To monitor the IconStation system s I/O board, set up an SNMP trap monitor using the address of the IconStation system. When you remove SDI input, genlock, or LTC you will receive notifications for each event. See Supported SNMP Traps (on page 3) for a full list of SNMP traps Imagine Communications.
