1 When you start Windows Movie Maker, you may see a collection from the previous user. To delete the collection, click on each pane and right-click to delete. To start a new project, click on File, Save As, and name the new project. Note: All projects need to be saved in the student s H-Drive. If they do not have a Movie Maker folder, they need to create a folder for all of their WMM projects. They can create sub-folders for each project/class. 2 In the Capture Video section, you can: Capture a video from an external device. Import a video from a collection. Import pictures from your collection. Import an audio file or music from your collection. Revised: 11/8/2007 Windows Movie Maker Page 2 Joel D Margliano

3 When you select Capture From Video Device, you will be taken through a wizard that helps you through every step while importing the video. Once you hook up your device, you will be able to select it, as seen in the example: You will need to name the captured video and pick a location you want to save it in. (This should always be the H-Drive). You can then choose the quality and size of the video. If you look in this pane, you will see an option to change the video settings. 4 If you choose Other Settings, you can select the type/style of video you want to create. When you click the Next button, you can begin capturing the video. You have the option to Create Clips, Mute Speakers, and Limit the Capture time. When you are done, click Finish. When you choose Import Video, you will be taken to the screen at the left. You will need to direct this to your H-Drive. You can choose the type of file from the drop-down list. After you select your file, click Import. You will see a progress meter as seen below. 5 After the files import, you will see the clips in the Collection area. You can then drag the clips to the storyboard. When you select Import Audio or Music, you will get the dialog box as seen on the left. You will need to direct this to your H-Drive. Select the file or files. To select multiple files, hold down Shift for consecutive files or Ctrl for a variety of files, then click Import. You can now begin moving your clips to the Storyboard area. 6 After you have placed all of the clips, you can begin adding Video Effects. This can be found in the Edit Movie area, (#2). Drag and drop the video effect on the pane in the Storyboard. After you have added the video effects your Storyboard, you can add Video Transitions. to To add transitions, drag and drop the transition between each clip. 7 After you have selected your transitions, you can select Make Titles or Credits. To options to choose from are on the right. When you select #3 Finish Movie, you will be prompted to adjust your audio levels. Slide the bar to the area you want more emphasis on. You can now begin the narration on your movie. 8 To start narration, click the Start Narration button. You can also adjust the microphone level. When you are done, click the Stop Narration button. If you are done, click Done. The following options are on the Storyboard Tool Bar. Revised: 11/8/2007 Windows Movie Maker Page 8 Joel D Margliano
