2 Page: 1 of 4 1. TURNING POWER ON AND CABLE CONNECTIONS Connect the power cable to the 9012 and attach the clips to the 12-volt battery. Connect the trigger cable to the trigger input and connect the geophone cable to the proper input (1-12). Turn on the 9012 by pressing the two ON keys at the same time. If the battery voltage is too low or too high, the 9012 will not turn on. To turn the 9012 off, press the two OFF keys at the same time. 2. SETTING GAIN Press AUTO GAIN to automatically set the K-gains for each channel with one test impact. The display will read: Waiting for trigger At this point, set off the source and the 9012 will set the K-gains for each channel. Press AUTO GAIN again to exit. 3. INSTRUMENT SETUP Press SETUP. To choose a function, press the number of the desired item. Press (1) and then (2) to change the RECORD NAME (up to 8 alphanumeric characters). Press SETUP to return to the main SETUP menu. Press (2) to set up time and date. Change the time and date by using the number pad, and then pressing ENTER to move to the next value. 4. SELECTING THE SAMPLE INTERVAL AND RECORD LENGTH To select the sample rate, press the yellow SAMPLE RATE key. The display will show the current setting. Press the UP ARROW key or the DOWN ARROW key to change the rate and then press the ENTER key. By selecting the sample rate in conjunction with the number of samples, the recording time (record length) can be configured many different ways.

This way, the switch is activated automatically when the hammer is dropped. The AUTO ARM key is used to set the input trigger signal to the automatic mode. The 9000 will rearm itself after each stack. The display will read either AUTO or OFF and can be toggled back and forth by pressing the AUTO ARM key. When the 9012 is triggered, two messages will appear: First it will display SAMPLES DONE Then ENHANCEMENT DONE When the ENHANCEMENT DONE message appears, the 9012 is ready for another stack. To clear the stacking memory, press the CLEAR key. Press 0 (zero) to clear individual channels; press 1 to clear the entire stacking memory; or press 2 to unstuck the last stack. When the stacking memory is cleared, the record number will be incremented by one. The record number can be decremented by one, by pressing the ALT key and the D key at the same time. If the CLEAR key was pressed and you do not wish to clear any data, just press the CLEAR key to exit the clearing function.

4 Page: 3 of 4 6. STORING AND RECALLING RECORDS To store a record, press STORE. Fill in the headings by pressing the numbers indicated on the screen. After all the headings are entered as needed, press 6 to store the record. The display will show that it is storing the record, then verifying the record. When finished, press STORE to exit storage. A short-cut can be used to store a record in the storage memory: press ALT and S simultaneously after the record has been stacked into the stacking memory. This will store the record with the current record name, clear the stacking memory, and increment the record number by 1 for the next record. To recall a record from storage, press 1, enter the record name, and then press ENTER. The 9012 will display the message RECORD MOVED TO STACKING MEMORY when done. The record can now be printed, digitally filtered, downloaded, or cleared as wished. The storage directory can be printed out by pressing the 5 (five) key. This will send the complete storage directory to the printer listing the record name, date, number of channels, and filter settings for each record. To erase a record, press 2, enter the record name, and then press ENTER. To clear the entire storage memory, press SET UP, and use option #4 to INITIALIZE DATA STORAGE ****CAUTION**** Doing this will destroy all data in storage, so be sure you have it downloaded and saved before INITIALIZING THE STORAGE BOARD. 7. PRINTING A RECORD To print a record, press PRINT and the main print menu will be displayed: 0 prints with options 3-9 set as shown on menu. 1 prints every 8 th sample and no trailer. 2 feeds a small amount of paper out of the printer. 3 toggles date trailer on/off 4 toggles clip on/off. 5 selects number of samples to print 6 changes vertical expansion. 7 toggles timing lines on/off 8 toggles variable area option on/off (uses more power w/ variable area on). 9 toggles AGC on/off. A default print can be made from the main menu by pressing ALT and P simultaneously. The print parameters will be as set in the print menu.

5 Page: 4 of 4 8. TRANSFERRING RECORDS TO A COMPUTER Data may be transferred to a computer from either the storage memory or the stacking memory.
