1 Notes: It is recommended after you calibrate your scale with the TARE, ZERO, and SPAN, calibration functions, that you go into the TROUBLESHOOT Mode and record all Calibratoin Numbers to aid your effort in troubleshooting in case a problem should develop. In such a case refering back to the original calibration settings can be helpful in quickly isolating any problems should they develop. Your system may not have all the following calibration numbers below, but what it does have we recommend you record them. 2 INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing LoadMan, a precision crafted On-Board Vehicle Weighing System. Creative Microsystems takes pride bringing to you our knowledge gained over years of designing and applying the latest technology to On-Board Vehicle Weighing Systems. It is our ongoing company goal to manufacture the finest OnBoard Vehicle Weighing Systems available. Notes: LoadMan is simple to use. As shown in the diagram, LoadMan has a 6 character alphanumeric display and 6 push-buttons. Momentarily depressing the POWER Key will apply or remove Power. Following the Power Sign On messages, LoadMan enters the last Operating Mode used, either the NET or GROSS Operating Mode. Each of these Operating Modes have one or more weight displays that can be customized to suit user preferences. Commands such as CYCLE DISPLAY, ZERO NET, or SHOW GROSS (or SHOW NET), are accessed thru one Display called PROGRAM FUNCTION. The SELECT Key will sequence forward and the SELECT Key will sequence in the reverse order thru the available displays. The PROGRAM Group of keys are used to enter a command like ZERO NET, or change a programmable number like BUNK TARE in the UP MODE. If the selected display is not programmable, the PROGRAM Group Keys have no effect. If the selected display is programmable, depressing the PROGRAM Key will cause a flashing Cursor to appear in the display, signifying the Program Mode has been entered. For programmable Displays, each use of the PROGRAM Key will move the flashing Cursor left to the next programmable Digit or Item in the Display. Once the flashing Cursor is positioned over the item you desire to change, use the PROGRAM Key to increase the Digit or Item to its next value. Continue to use the PROGRAM Key to position the flashing Cursor and the PROGRAM Key to bump the Digit or Item until the desired Display is shown. Depressing the PROGRAM Key will enter the change made or perform the command shown on the display. LoadMan takes no action until the PROGRAM Key is depressed. LoadMan supports all types of Load Cells from popular manufactures. The Log Truck Application documented in this manual supports Log Trucks with to Bunks or to 8 Load Cells. Typical Log Truck users setup to read LongLogger Trucks ( Bunks), or ShortLogger Trucks LoadMan ( Bunks). LoadMan is a completely digital instrument. Sensitive Analog measurements are provided by a precision crafted circuit called a which resides in an external Junction Box near the Load Cells. A Two Wire Digital connection immune to moisture, dirt, etc, connects the (s) to the Meter. Each Bunk requires one to read the Bunk Weight. 9

4 OPERATING MODES Loadman SHORT LOGGER WIRING DIAGRAM LoadMan has distinct Operating Modes; NET or GROSS, plus a Setup and Calibration Mode. The NET and GROSS Operating Modes are virtually identical except for the obvious, NET displays NET Loads while GROSS displays GROSS Loads only. Momentarily depressing the POWER pushbutton with power off, applies Power and causes LoadMan to sign on with the Display Message LOADMAN then PROG VERSION x.x. The Version Number, x.x, represents the Application Software Version and aids tracking Software Updates. Once the Sign On Messages has completed, LoadMan enters one of the following Operating Modes which is the last one used as shown in the Operating Mode Diagram; AMP FUSE 5 LoadMan Meter +VDC Battery NET OPERATING MODE GROSS OPERATING MODE Using the PROGRAM FUNCTION Display in each of these Operating Modes as described later, allows the operator to easily sequence to either the Gross or Net Operating Modes as desired. Each of these modes are virtually identical, except for the manner in which the Weight is displayed. The Net Weight on the Vehicle (or Payload Weight) is displayed in the NET Operating Mode. The Gross Weight of the Vehicle, which is the Payload Weight plus the Tare Weight, is displayed in the Gross Operating Mode. The Tare Weight is a constant, programmed for each Bunk in the Setup and Calibration Mode and is the Weight of each Bunk when the Vehicle is empty. All Bunk Tares should add up to the Empty Weight of your Vehicle for a properly calibrated system. TRUCK Use Electrical Wire Nuts or Solder to make Red & Black Connections Momentarily depressing the POWER Key in any Operating Mode causes to display GOODBYE! for approximately second before LoadMan Power is removed. Depressing the POWER Key again, returns LoadMan to last Operating Mode used, NET or GROSS. If you continually hold the POWER Key depressed while GOODBYE! is on the display, then instead of turning LoadMan displays ENTERING UP to signify that it is entering the UP and CALIBRATION Mode. You must release the POWER Key while the ENTERING UP Display is being displayed to successfully enter the Setup and Calibration Mode. Otherwise Power will be removed. There are several Setup Categories in the Setup and Calibration Mode and are discussed in detail in that section. When the EXIT UP Category is activated, LoadMan returns back to the last Operating Mode used, i.e., the NET or GROSS Operating Mode. BUNK Connect Green Wire to Black Wire inside Bunk. 6 NET OPERATING MODE Loadman BUNK WIRING DIAGRAM LoadMan shows Net Vehicle Loads in this mode of operation. The NET Operating Mode is identified by the NET Weight Display (Likewise, the GROSS Operating Mode is identified by the GROSS Weight Display). When in the NET Operating Mode, all Weight Displays read NET Load Readings. Likewise, when in the GROSS Operating Mode, all Weight Displays read GROSS Load Readings. For a properly calibrated system, all Net Weight Displays will read zero whenever your Vehicle is Empty. If not, then you should perform a ZERO NET Program Function Command described later in this section. This causes LoadMan to show Zero for all Weight Displays. LoadMan enters the Automatic Display Cycle Mode at Power on, or by selecting the CYCLE DISPLAY Command in the PROGRAM FUNCTION Display. Each Display duration is Programmed in the INSTALL Setup Mode in the Display CYCLE xxxxx SEC. The Displays sequence thru NET, TRUCK, TRAILER, BUNK, BUNK, BUNK, and BUNK Weight Displays. Using one of the SELECT Keys terminates the Automatic Display Cycle Mode and lets you Select the Display you desire per the Net Operating Mode Diagram. The SELECT Key will sequence forward and the SELECT Key will sequence in the reverse order thru the Displays. AMP FUSE 5 LoadMan Meter TRUCK +VDC Battery LoadMan allows easy Display Customization depending on the System Configuration chosen in the INSTALL Setup Category. For example, after selecting how many Bunks on your Truck, programmable Display Setup Options are available to turn on or off the TRUCK, TRAILER, or BUNK Displays according to user preferences. The NET (or GROSS) Display is always on, it can not be turned off. For example, you can turn off the TRUCK, TRAILER, and all four BUNK Displays and LoadMan TM will show only the NET Weight Display which is the Total Weight of the Payload (NET). 8 Definition of each NET Operating Mode Weight Display follows; NET OPERATING MODE (Continued from page 6) NET xxxxxx LB - This Display shows the Total Payload Weight of the material in the Vehicle where xxxxxx represents the Total Net or Payload Weight. It is the sum of Bunks thru. TRUCK xxxxxx LB - The Truck Display always shows the sum of Bunk weights and. This Display can be turned on or off in the INSTALL Setup Category by programming the Display SHOW TRUCK to either YES or NO. Both Bunk and Bunk s must be present for LoadMan to Display the Truck Weight. The Display NO TRUCK CODER will be displayed if either Bunk or Bunk is absent. TRAILER xxxxxx LB - The Trailer Display always shows the sum of the weights on Bunk and Bunk. This Display can be turned on or off in the INSTALL Setup Category by programming the Display SHOW TRAILER to either YES or NO. Both Bunk and Bunk s must be present for LoadMan to Display the Trailer Weight. The Display NO TRAILER CODER will be displayed if either Bunk or Bunk is absent. The Display NO BUNK CODER is Displayed if the Bunk is absent. 5 TRAILER (BUNK) LoadMan Meter Use Electrical Wire Nuts or Solder to make Red & Black End Cap twists off. Electrical wire nuts inside are used to make Red & Black Wire TRUCK (BUNK) PROGRAM FUNCTION - Use this Display to activate one of the Program Function Options as shown in the Net Operating Mode Diagram. The or PROGRAM Keys will sequence forward thru the available Program Functions. After Selecting the Program Function Option you desire, press the PROGRAM Key to perform the Function. LoadMan takes action when the Key is depressed with one of Program Functions on the Display. CYCLE DISPLAY - Selecting this Program Function causes LoadMan to automatically cycle thru all the available displays. The duration of each Display is programmable in the INSTALL Setup Mode. Any Displays showing No LoadCoder will be skipped. Only the Displays showing a Weight Reading will show. ZERO NET - Selecting this Program Function will Zero the Load on all Load Sensors installed on the Vehicle so after this operation your NET Load will show Zero on all Weight Displays. Connect Green Wire to Black Wire inside Bunk. Use Electrical Wire Nuts provided inside. Leave Green Wire Open inside Bunk SHOW GROSS - Selecting this Program Function will Terminate the NET OPERATING MODE and take you to the GROSS OPERATING MODE described in the next section. Left Load Cell Right Load Cell TRAILER BUNK Left Load Cell Right Load Cell TRUCK BUNK INSTALL NEW TLR - This option will appear if the TLR ID >ENABLE option is selected in the INSTALL UP category. This function allows LoadMan to automatically recall the calibration for up to six different trailers that you may pull with your truck. Selecting this Program Function allows you to program a new Trailer ID number from to 6. After you press the key, then the right select key, the calibration data for the new trailer you are installing will be automatically recalled. Only the trailer callibration will be changed, the truck calibration data remains the same. 9

10 GROSS OPERATING MODE LoadMan shows Gross Vehicle Loads in this mode of operation. The GROSS Operating Mode is identified by the GROSS Weight Display (Likewise, the NET Operating Mode is identified by the NET Weight Display). When in the GROSS Operating Mode, all Weight Displays read GROSS Load Readings. Likewise, when in the NET Operating Mode, all Weight Displays read NET Load Readings. When your vehicle is Empty, a properly calibrated system will read the Programmed Tare Weight(s) which have been programmed in the TARE Setup Mode at installation time. The Tare Weight is the Empty Weight of your Vehicle (or Bunk). If this is not the case, then you should perform a ZERO NET PROGRAM FUNCTION Command described later in this section. This causes LoadMan to show the Tare Weight programmed for each Weight Display. LoadMan enters the Automatic Display Cycle Mode at Power on, or by selecting the CYCLE DISPLAY Command in the PROGRAM FUNCTION Display. Each Display duration is Programmed in the INSTALL Setup Mode Display CYCLE xxxxx SEC. The Displays Sequence thru GROSS, TRUCK, TRAILER, BUNK, BUNK, BUNK, and BUNK Weight Displays. This Diagram is shown for the INSTALL Setup Options set as follows; BUNKS > SHOW TRUCK ->YES SHOW TRAILER>YES SHOW BUNKS ->YES TLR ID ->ENABLED 0 WIRING DIAGRAMS There are Basic Wiring Diagrams for the possible LoadMan System Configurations ; Single Bunk Wiring Diagram Dual Bunk Wiring Diagram or Long Logger Configuration Three Bunk Wiring Diagram Four Bunk Wiring Diagram or Short Logger Configuration Refer to the Wiring Diagram that matches the number of Bunks your Weighing System will be configured for. Each of these Wiring Diagrams show the recommended INSTALL Setup Options required for the Wiring Diagram you choose. You must program the BUNKS Display in the INSTALL Setup Mode to either,,, or for the selected Wiring Diagram to become Active. The SHOW TRUCK, SHOW TRAILER, and SHOW BUNKS Display options in the INSTALL Mode are optional. If you decide to program the SHOW TRUCK Display Option to YES, then LoadMan will show the TRUCK Display in the Gross or Net Operating Modes which is the sum of Bunks and coming into the TRUCK Channel of the Meter (Pins and of LoadMan ). If you decide to program the SHOW TRAILER Display Option to YES, then LoadMan will show the TRAILER Display in the Gross or Net Operating Modes which is the sum of Bunks and coming into the TRAILER Channel of the Meter (Pins 5 and 6 of LoadMan ). The SHOW BUNKS Display Option allows you to turn on or off BUNK, BUNK, BUNK, and BUNK Displays in the Gross or Net Operating Modes. The Wire Red and Black connections connecting to Pins and or Pins 5 and 6 of the Meter carry signals which are Digital in nature and are virtually immune to moisture and dust. Where required, you can twist the Red and Black wires together and use the provided twist on Electrical Wire Nuts to make the connection.

11 QUICK START SUMMARY for those who don t read the Manual INSTALL UP DATA FIRST - Set all the configuration options in this Setup Category first. This will configure LoadMan to operate properly on your Truck. Use the Wiring Diagrams to help you pick the correct installation Setup for you. TARE (Bunk Empty Weights) - Set the correct Empty Weights for each Bunk on your Truck. This is the Gross Bunk Weight Reading for each Bunk on your Vehicle when it is empty. The Bunk Tare Weights are contstants and you will normally never have to repeate this step unless the Bunk Empty Weights change for you Truck due to other equipment installed or other unforseen Truck Empty Weight Changes. ZERO - Use the ZERO NET Command in the PROGRAM FUNCTION Display of the Normal Operating Mode or the ZERO Command in the Setup and Calibration Mode whenever your Vehicle is Empty and your are not reading Zero Weight in the NET Operating Mode or you are not reading your Bunk Tare Weights in the GROSS Operating Mode. You can perform this step as many times as you desire. It does not affect the Calibration of the Meter, but just resets the Scale to read Zero Weight when you are Empty. SPAN - After you have completed steps thru above and you read Zero NET Weight in the NET Operating Mode when your Vehicle is Empty (or your Bunk Tare Weights in the GROSS Operating Mode), then you are ready to perform the SPAN Function to calibrate your scale to a Platform Scale of your choosing. With the Truck Loaded, enter the Setup and Calibration Mode and select the SPAN Setup Category to enter the Desired Gross Bunk Weight Readings. You must be Loaded to perform this Step. This Display is the sum of Bunks thru. TRUCK xxxxxx LB - The Truck Display always shows the sum of the Gross Weight measured on Bunks and. This Display can be turned on or off in the INSTALL Setup Category by programming the Display SHOW TRUCK to either YES or NO. Both Bunks and s must be present for LoadMan to Display the Truck Weight. The Display NO TRUCK CODER will be displayed if either Bunk or Bunk are absent. TRAILER xxxxxx LB - The Trailer Display shows the sum of the Gross Weights on Bunk and Bunk. This Display can be turned on or off in the INSTALL Setup Category by programming the Display SHOW TRAILER to either YES or NO. Both Bunks and s must be present for LoadMan to Display the Trailer Weight. The Display NO TRAILER CODER will be displayed if either Bunk or Bunk is absent. The Display NO BUNK CODER is Displayed if the Bunk is absent. 5 QUICK START(Cont from page 6) for those who don t read the Manual SPAN - This step calibrates the Meter to agree with a Platform Scale you drive your Truck over. Use this function only after you have done the previous Steps. When your Truck was Empty, LoadMan must have previously read you Bunk Tare Weights in the GROSS Mode or Zero Weight in the NET Mode in order for this step to operate properly. Make sure that this was the case before you attempt this step. With your Truck Loaded and at the Platform Scale you will be calibrating to, go into the Setup and Calibration Mode and use the SELECT Key to Select the SPAN ->NO Display. Depress the Program Key and the Display will change to SPAN >YES. Depress the Program Key and you will enter the Set Span Setup Category. Use the SELECT Key to go forward thru each Bunk Display of the Set Span Setup. Use the SELECT Key to go backwards or return to the previous Display. The first Display will show BUNK xxxxxx LB (or KG). The Number xxxxxx is the current Gross Weight reading of BUNK. If this is not correct then use the PROGRAM Keys to enter the desired Gross Weight Reading for BUNK. Make sure you depress the Program Key after the correct number is displayed to enter the desired Gross Bunk Weight. After BUNK Gross Weight is set correctly, use the SELECT Key to enter BUNK Gross Weight. Continue this same basic operation until you have correctly entered the desired Gross Weight Reading for each Bunk on your Truck. After you have done so use the SELECT Key and the DO AUTOCAL >NO Display will appear. This is the final step asking you for confirmation that you are ready to perform the calibration. Make sure your Truck is stopped and on Level Ground. Use the PROGRAM Keys to change the NO to a YES then hit. Autocal is performed the moment you hit the key with the AUTOCAL >YES Display showing. LoadMan will take no action unless this is done. Watch the display for the results. If no errors occur, then you will see the Display DOING BUNK CAL, then DOING BUNK CAL,... etc. If an error occurrs it will be annunciated on the Display. There are only possible things that can go wrong. LoadMan TM will make sure you have at least 500 LB of Weight on each Bunk before it will allow the Calibration to take place. Accurate results cannot be achieved unless this is the case. Also LoadMan will verify that the signal is present before it will do the Bunk Calibration. After this step, LoadMan will show EXIT UP >NO Display. Change the NO to a YES and hit to return to the Normal Operating Mode. If you are in the GROSS Operating Mode, you should now be reading the Bunk Gross Weights you have just entered. 9

13 TARE (Bunk Empty Weights) - Use the SELECT Key to Select the TARE ->NO Display. Depress the Program Key and the Display will change to TARE >YES. Depress Program Key and you will enter the TARE Setup Category. Use the SELECT Key to go forward thru the Bunk Tare Displays. Use the SELECT Key to go backwards or return to the previous Display. Use the and Program Keys to enter your Truck s Empty Weights for BUNK up to BUNK. Only the number of Bunks you previously set in the INSTALL Mode of Step will show. Once the correct Bunk Empty Weight is on the Display, depress the Key to make the entry. These numbers are constants. Normally you will never have a need to change these Empty Weight Settings again unless your Bunk Empty Weights change due to Truck Modifications. ZERO with Truck Empty - When you Truck is completely empty, and you are not reading the BUNK TARE Weights you have set in Step, then you should perform the ZERO Command in the UP Mode or the ZERO NET Command in the PROGRAM FUNCTION Display of the Normal Operating Mode. Both of these commands are identical. They are in places for convenience only. Use the SELECT Key to Select the ZERO ->NO Display in the Setup and Calibration Display or the PROGRAM FUNCTION Display in the Normal Operating Mode. Depress the Program Key and the Display will change to ZERO >YES in the Setup Mode or ZERO NET in the Normal Operating Mode. Depress the Program Key and everything else is automatic. LoadMan TM automatically sets the Zero Offsets of every Load Cell on your Truck so you will now read your Empty Weight. You can inspect these Zero Offset Numbers in the Troubleshooting Mode if you so desire. Perform this fuunction as often an neccessary. The Display NO BUNK CODER is Displayed if the Bunk is absent. PROGRAM FUNCTION - Use this Display to activate one of the Program Function Options as shown in the Gross Operating Mode Diagram. The or PROGRAM Keys will sequence forward thru the available Program Functions. After Selecting the Program Function Option you desire, press the PROGRAM Key to perform the Function. LoadMan takes action when the Key CYCLE DISPLAY - Selecting this Program Function causes LoadMan to automatically cycle thru all the available displays. The duration of each Display is programmable in the INSTALL Setup Mode. Any Displays showing No LoadCoder will be skipped. Only the Displays showing a Weight Reading will show. ZERO NET - Selecting the Program Function will Zero the Load on all Load Sensors installed on the Vehicle. After this operation your Gross Loads will show the Tare Weights you have programmed in the Setup Mode on all Weight Displays. SHOW NET - Selecting this Program Function will Terminate the GROSS OPERATING MODE and take you to the NET OPERATING MODE described in the previous section. INSTALL NEW TLR - This option will appear if the TLR ID >ENABLE option is selected in the INSTALL UP category. This function allows LoadMan to automatically recall the calibration for up to six different trailers that you may pull with your truck. Selecting this Program Function allows you to program a new Trailer ID number from to 6. After you press the key, then the right select key, the calibration data for the new trailer you are installing will be automatically recalled. Only the trailer callibration will be changed, the truck calibration data remains the same.

14 UP and CALIBRATION OPERATING MODE You enter the Setup and Calibration Mode from either the NET or GROSS Operating Mode by holding the POWER Key depressed continually during the GOODBYE! Display until you see ENTERING UP Display as described in the INTRODUCTION Section. The first display upon entry to the Setup and Calibration Mode is the ZERO?->NO Display. The Setup and Calibration Displays allow you to select of the 5 Setup Categories or alternately exit the Setup and Calibration Mode by using the EXIT UP?- >NO Display. Use the SELECT Keys to Select the Setup Category Display you desire per the Setup and Calibration Operating Mode Diagram. The SELECT Key will sequence forward and the SELECT Key will sequence in the reverse order thru the Setup Category Displays listed below. Once the desired Setup Category Display is being viewed, use either the or PROGRAM Key to change the NO in the Display to a YES. Depressing the Key will cause you to enter the selected Setup Category. A description of each Setup Category follows; ZERO - Use this Setup Category to Zero the NET Vehicle Weight. You use this Setup Category only when your Vehicle is empty. This operation achieves exactly the same result as the ZERO NET Command in the NET or GROSS Operating Mode. It does not effect the Span Calibration of the Loaded Weight Readings, it just resets the Zero Weight Reading. SPAN - Use this Setup Category when you desire to Calibrate your Truck s Loaded Weight Readings to agree with the readings taken from another Truck Scale. Prior to doing this step, LoadMan must have previously shown a zero NET Weight when your vehicle was empty (if not you must first perform the ZERO Command when your Vehicle is empty otherwise inaccurate calibration will result). Your Vehicle should be loaded to at least 70% of its maximum weight possible to achieve the most accurate results. When you select this Set Span Setup Category, LoadMan shows ENTER BUNK then GROSS WEIGHT on the display for approximately second each. After this, LoadMan shows the GROSS Weight currently being measured on BUNK. If this BUNK GROSS Weight does not agree with the Truck Scale you are trying to calibrate to, then use the PROGRAM Group of keys as described in the Introduction Section to make the BUNK GROSS Weight Display agree. Make sure you depress the Key after entering the desired GROSS Weight. Once the correct BUNK GROSS Weight is QUICK START for those who don t read the Manual GO INTO LOADMAN UP MODE - Depress Power Switch to turn unit on. After Sign On Messages go into Setup and Calibration Mode by holding Power Switch Depressed continually thru the GOODBYE Message and release it when you see the Display LOADMAN UP. If successful the first Setup Category Display will show, ZERO >NO. INSTALL UP DATA - Use the SELECT Key to Select the INSTALL ->NO Display. Depress the Program Key and the Display will change to INSTALL >YES. Depress the Program Key and you will enter the INSTALL Setup Category. Use the SELECT Key to go forward thru the Install Display Setup Options. Use the SELECT Key to go backwards or return to the previous Display. You must set the following Setup Data; Set Number of Bunks - Continue to depress the Program Key until you see the Display Showing the correct Number of Bunks on your Truck (,,, or ). When the correct Number is Displayed press the Key. Set TRUCK Display On or Off - Use the SELECT Key to Select the Display SHOW TRUCK ->YES or SHOW TRUCK >NO. Use the Program Key to change the YES to a NO or the NO to a YES. When the correct option is shown press the Program Key. The TRUCK Display is the Sum of Bunks and. Set TRAILER Display On or Off - Use the SELECT Key to Select the Display SHOW TRAILER-->YES or SHOW TRAILER >NO. Use the Program Key to change the YES to a NO or the NO to a YES. When the correct option is shown press the Program Key. The TRAILER Display is the Sum of Bunks and. Set BUNK Display On or Off - Use the SELECT Key to Select the Display SHOW BUNKS-->YES or SHOW BUNKS >NO. Use the Program Key to change the YES to a NO or the NO to a YES. When the correct option is shown press the Program Key. This turns on or off Bunk thru Bunk Displays in the Normal Operating Mode. Set Trailer ID - Use the PROGRAM Key to Select the Display DISABLED OR ENABLED if you want to use this option when you use or more trailers. Set Filter - Use the SELECT Key to Select the Weight FILTER Display. Use the Program Key to Select NONE, LIGHT, MEDIUM, or HEAVY then press Key to make the entry. Set Display Units - Use the SELECT Key to select the UNITS Display. Use the Program Key to select LB or KG then press. Set COUNT BY - Use SELECT Key to Select the COUNT BY Display. Use the Program Key to select,, 5, 0, 0, 50, or 00 then press to make the entry. This will sets the minimum Display graduation or resolution. Set Display Cyle Time - Use the SELECT Key to Select the Display CYCLE x SEC. Use the and Program Keys to change the Display Duration of each Display when the Display Cycle Command is selected in the Normal Operating Mode. Press Key when entry complete. Use the SELECT Key to return to INSTALL >NO Setup Category Display. 7

15 Compatability with older Long Logger LoadCoders TM UP and CALIBRATION OPERATING MODE Prior to March 995, LongLogger LoadMan Meters were supplied capable of reading Bunks only, TRUCK and TRAILER. To support this meter special LongLogger s were provided for this meter only. After March 995 all new systems were shipped with only Short Logger s. If you are using the Meter described in this manual but hooking up to Long Logger s, then be aware that you can only read Bunks. Long Logger s are capable of reading only Bunks maximum. Short Logger s are the only ones capable of reading up to Bunks with a single Meter. Long and Short s are identified by twisting off the End Cap and counting the Number of Wires inside. Long Logger s have wires, a RED and a BLACK Wire. Short Logger s have wires, a RED, a BLACK, and a GREEN Wire. If you have Long Logger s, then you must set the Number of BUNKS Display in the INSTALL Setup Category to make the system operate properly for the Bunk Operation to the Display; OLD LONG CODER You will see this to be one of the Options in the BUNK >X Display Options. Wire the Truck Long Logger to Pins and of the Meter (Red to Pin and Black to Pin ). Wire the Trailer Long Logger to Pins 5 and 6 of the Meter (Red to Pin 5 and Black to Pin 6). If you program the INSTALL Setup Mode as shown above, then the Meter will show the weight on the BUNK and BUNK (Assumming you have the SHOW BUNKS >YES Display Option selected in the INSTALL Option. If you need to measure more than Bunks then you must purchase the Short Logger (s). Also be aware that you cannot mix the older Long Logger s with the newer Short Logger s. Either you must have all Short Logger s on your Truck or all Old LongLogger s. You cannot have ShortLogger and LongLogger. If you attempt this you will get erroneous weighing results. PROGRAM Activating a Setup Category USE SELECT KEYS TO SELECT THE UP CATEGORY YOU DESIRE. USE THE OR PROGRAM KEYS TO CHANGE THE NO TO YES PRESS THE PROGRAM KEY TO ACTIVATE THE SELECTED UP CATEGORY. If this BUNK GROSS Weight does not agree with the Truck Scale you are calibrating to, then use the PROGRAM Group of keys to enter the correct BUNK Gross Weight. Continue to use the or SELECT Keys per the SPAN Diagram until all BUNK Gross Weight Readings have been correctly entered. The SELECT Key will let you go back and redo a Weight Entry if you made a mistake. When you are satisfied, continue to go forward with the SELECT Key and you will arrive at the DO AUTOCAL->NO Display. This display is attempting to confirm you have entered the correct GROSS BUNK Weight Readings for all Bunks, your Truck is stationary, on level ground, and you are ready to perform the Calibration. If you made a mistake entering a GROSS BUNK Weight, then use the SELECT Key to return back to the desired GROSS Weight Display so you can continue to modify it. Once you are ready, Select the DO AUTOCAL- >NO Display and use the or PROGRAM Key to change the NO to YES then depress the Key. LoadMan responds with DOING BUNK CAL then doing DOING BUNK CAL etc. If an error is detected then LoadMan will inform you of the Error and Show ABORTING BKx CAL where x is the Bunk Number. Once the calibration is complete, LoadMan returns to the Setup Category Display Options. LoadMan verifies you have at least 000 LB of NET Load on your Vehicle before it will do the calibration. This is one of possible Errors. This prevents you from calibrating your vehicle when it is near empty. You must have a NET Load on the Vehicle in order to calibrate. The larger the NET Load is to the maximum possible Vehicle Load, the more accurate calibration results. LoadMan also verifies the Bunk is present else the NO BUNKx CODER will be displayed. This is the second possible Error. The SPAN Diagram is drawn for a Bunk System programmed in the INSTALL Setup Category. If less than Bunks was programmed then only the Bunk Displays Programmed will appear. TARE - Use this Setup Category when you desire to set the 6 USING the TRAILER ID LoadMan can remember the Calibration Data for up to 6 different Trailers. For example, if you drive a truck that pulls to 6 different trailers, LoadMan can remember the Calibration Data for each trailer. To activate this capability, go into the INSTALL Setup Category, found in the Setup and Calibration Mode, and program the TLR ID Enable/Disable Display to ENABLED. When the Trailer ID Function is Enabled, you will see a new PROGRAM FUNCTION Display Option called INSTALL NEW TLR, in either the Gross or Net Operating Mode (refer to Net or Gross Operating Mode Diagrams found on pages 7 or ). You will not see the INSTALL NEW TLR Program Function Option if TLR ID has been programmed to DISABLED in the Install Setup Category. When you depress the key with the INSTALL NEW TLR option showing in the PROGRAM FUNCTION Display, LoadMan will display the text NEW TLR ID for about seconds, then show you the display TLR ID ->x where x is the current TLR ID Number currently in use. Use the Program Keys and to program a new TLR ID Number from to 6. When the correct TLR ID Number is displayed depress the Program Key. This will cause the flashing cursor to disappear. Once you have programmed the correct TLR ID Number and depressed the Key, depress the right Select Key and if the TLR ID Number you have programmed has been changed to a new number, then the display will show LOADING CAL DATA while the new calibration data for the new Trailer is being loaded. This takes about second, then the normal Gross or Net weight displays will be shown. Once the correct Calibration Data is Loaded, you can perform any normal calibration command that is talked about elsewhere in this manual, and the Calibration Data for the selected TLR ID Number will be updated. When you select a new TLR ID Number, the current Calibration Data for the current TLR ID Number in use is saved to a permanent memory reserved for that particular TLR ID Number. Once saved, the Calibration Data for the newly selected TLR ID is then loaded into the active Calibration Memory of LoadMan. In this manner, once all 6 Trailers have been calibrated, you can then simply program the TLR ID Number you are currently pulling with your Truck and the correct Load Weight will be displayed. 5

17 UP and CALIBRATION OPERATING MODE (Cont from page ) TROUBLESHOOT (continued from page ) modified so when the offset is added to the Load Cell Reading it reads zero. Therefore this number represents the number of LB (or KG) required to offset the Load Cell Reading when there is no Net Load Present. The Zero Offset is useful in determining the health of each Load Cell. A healthy Load Cell will normally have a Zero Offset within plus or minus 8000 LB and remain relatively stable over the Long Term. However, when a Load Cell starts to fail, the Zero Offset will move continually (usually in the same direction) over a period of time and eventually will fail. The SPAN Setting sets the sensitivity or counts per volt of signal. The higher this number the higher the sensitivity to signal changes from the Load Cell. Normally all SPAN Settings would be the same number since most installations have Load Cells installed from the same manufacturer which have matched signal outputs. However, you can install Load Cells with different signal outputs and adjust the SPAN Settings accordingly. For example, lets assume the Left Bunk (LB) Load Cell outputs twice as much signal as the Right Bunk (RB) Load Cell. In this case you could set LB Span to / that of RB SPAN Setting causing both Load Cells to respond with the same number of counts for a given Load. LoadMan maintains the same SPAN ratios whenever you calibrate with the SPAN Setup Category Command. For example, if LoadMan finds the SPAN needs to be increased 0%, it increases all existing SPAN Numbers by 0% thereby maintaining the existing SPAN ratios that you manually set. The SPAN Function will also multiply the Zero Offsets by the same 0% ratio so the Net Empty Weight will return to zero. Normal SPAN Numbers are typically close to 0,000 for most Load Cells on the market. EXIT UP - Activating this Setup Command will cause LoadMan to exit the UP and CALIBRATION OPERATING Mode and return you to the last operating mode you used, either the NET or GROSS Operating Mode. INSTALL OPTIONS BUNKS > Bunks appear when Bunks= Bunks appear when Bunks= Bunks appear when Bunks= Bunk appears when Bunks= TING SPAN (Loaded Calibration) TING SPAN PROGRAM In UP and CALIBRATION MODE Use SELECT KEYS to Select the SPAN-->NO DISPLAY. When all Bunk Gross Load Readings have been correctly entered, use Select Key to show DO AUTOCAL->NO Display. Use PROGRAM Keys, change NO to YES and Hit. When you select this Setup Category you will see the Display BUNK xxxxxx LB, where xxxxxx represents the current Tare for Setting for Bunk. Use the PROGRAM Group of keys as discussed in the Introduction Section to change the Tare Setting. Use the or SELECT Keys per the TARE Diagram until you have correctly set all BUNK TARE s. Only the number of Bunks you have previously programmed in the INSTALL Setup Category will appear. For example, if you have programmed BUNKS -> in the INSTALL Setup Category, then only BUNK and BUNK Tare Settings will show on the Display. INSTALL - Use the Install Setup Category when you need to setup or change the operating configuration of LoadMan. The INSTALL UP CATEGORY Diagram shows how to access, show, or change the current settings in the INSTALL Setup Category. Once you have entered the INSTALL Setup Category, use the SELECT Keys to select the desired Install Option. If the Displayed Option is incorrect, continued use of the or PROGRAM Key will sequentially show all of the available options. When the desired option is displayed, use the PROGRAM Key to make the entry. The following list describes each of the displays in this Setup Category. BUNKS ->X - This Display configures LoadMan to read to Bunks on you Truck, where X is the Number of Bunks from to. Use the or PROGRAM Key to change X to the number of Bunks on your Log Truck ( to ). When the Desired Setting is on the Display depress the Key. SHOW TRUCK >YES - This Display turns on or off the TRUCK Weight Display in the NET or GROSS Operating Mode. The TRUCK Weight Display is always the sum of BUNK and BUNK Weight Displays as discussed in the NET and GROSS Operation Mode Sections. Both BUNK and BUNK Signals must be present for the TRUCK Display to show the Weight Reading. SHOW TRAILER >YES - This Display turns on or off the TRAILER Weight Display in the NET or GROSS Operating Mode.
