2 Planned availability date August 31, 2010: Electronic availability Description The WebSphere Front Office feed handler portfolio now supports over 100 data feeds, including major US and international data sources, with connectivity to exchanges, electronic communication networks (ECNs), and consolidated data providers. In addition to the distribution of market data, WebSphere Front Office feed handlers can provide data normalization, data blending, value-added calculations, and custom data integration including call-outs, contributions, and publication. WebSphere Front Office for Financial Markets offers a vendor-neutral alternative for delivery of market data. It can address these challenges: Ever-increasing market data and trade volumes in financial markets Rise in algorithmic trading Market fragmentation Regulatory changes such as Regulation National Market System (RegNMS) and MiFid Additions to WebSphere Front Office feed handler portfolio The new feed handlers 1 are: WebSphere Front Office Feed Handler for Hong Kong Exchange PRS 2 The Hong Kong Exchange PRS direct real-time information for securities traded on the Hong Kong Futures Exchange and the Stock Options Market of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. The three major functions of each feed handler are: Connectivity Data processing Control and administration Connectivity WebSphere Front Office feed handlers can provide connectivity to exchanges or feed providers through their protocol, which can vary from standard multicast to proprietary TCP/IP. WebSphere Front Office feed handlers support both one-way broadcast feeds and bi-directional feeds that are interactive or that support data contribution. Handlers for interactive feeds can enable subscription, data recovery, and other services. 4 Message processing and conversion The feed handler processes incoming message stream and converts messages from feed-specific formats to a common data format. The format is flexible yet compact to allow mapping to all fields required by various feeds, while keeping the message size small for outstanding performance. Data quality assurance The feed handler uses message level sequence numbers contained in feeds to detect message loss. When supported by the source feed, a feed handler can use recovery procedures to help recover missing data and resubmit it to subscribed clients. The feed handler can interpret other data quality indicators to detect data corruption or to identify out-of-band data. Inline computations A feed handler can perform inline calculations that can be added to outbound messages and cached for later retrieval. Predefined computations are available, and others can be defined for specific feed handler implementations. Cache operations A feed handler caches data to memory within the feed handler. A typical cache will capture all data received from the feed source. Cache content can include: The state of an instrument The last particular field value Aggregated data for an instrument class Computed value for an instrument class Data can be extracted from the cache into a message and retrieved from the feed handler through the client APIs. Data delivery The feed handler delivers processed data to subscribed applications or users. Subscription-controlled data delivery is at the instrument level with support for wildcards. Control and administration An administrator can query for operational statistics, retrieve log messages, update configuration, view cache records and execute other administrative commands through our custom administrative desktop, or, for customers who purchase WebSphere Front Office Platform Services, through SNMP tools.
