Selenium is great with cross browser testing, but has no support for image verification, web services or mobile testing. No viable framework/solution available that can leverage a host of open source test automation tools to test an application/system utilizing different platforms and technology.

Can leverage the desired capability/capabilities of test automation tool/tools as per need basics.
