3 1 VIDA CONFIGURATION VIDA Configuration is a tool used primarily for network configuration, but it also has a Utilities section where VIDA Configuration can be launched and a connecitivity test to central servers can be performed. There is also a backup utility. VIDA Configuration can be accessed at any time if the network configuration has changed. It is also launched during the installation of VIDA All-in-one. This document will describe the different tabs in the main window of VIDA Configuration. 1.1 Location The first tab is used to choose the connection type to VIDA's central systems. Fig. 1 VIDA Configuration Location tab On this tab, choose VCC Intranet, VCC Extranet or Internet. The choice will affect the URLs that VIDA uses to connect to the central servers. The information will also be saved in VIDA's local database. Click Save to save changes. A dialogue box will appear to verify that the information has been saved and then VIDA is restarted. Click Close to exit VIDA Configuration without making any changes. Volvo Car Corporation EN05 3

4 1.2 Proxy settings The second tab is used for proxy settings. Fig. 2 VIDA Configuration Proxy settings tab Read the chapters below for information regarding Automatic configuration, Proxy server and NTLM Authentication. Click Save to save changes. A dialogue box will appear to verify that the information has been saved and then VIDA is restarted. Click Close to exit VIDA Configuration without making any changes. Contact the local IT support if assistance is needed with any settings on this tab Automatic configuration If a script is used for automatic configuration, enter the URL here. If a script for automatic configuration is used in Internet Explorer, this script takes precedence over a script used in VIDA Configuration Proxy server If a proxy server is used, insert the URL and port number here. If the proxy server requires authentication, enter user name and password as well NTLM Authentication If NTLM Authentication is used, enter the Windows domain here. 5 1.3 Utilities The third tab contains a variety of utilities that is mostly used for support purposes. Fig. 3 VIDA Configuration Utilites tab Read the chapters below for information regarding Start Certification Agent, Test Server Communication and Log level. The content in the large text box can be copied to the clipboard in Windows. The content is output data from the VIDA Certification Agent and Test Server Communication, respectively. Click Save to save changes. A dialogue box will appear to verify that the information has been saved and then VIDA is restarted. Click Close to exit VIDA Configuration without making any changes Start Certification Agent VIDA Certification Agent should be run if there have been any changes made in the hardware of the workstation, e.g. RAM change or upgrade Test Server Communication This utility is used to test the connection to VIDA's central servers Log level Is is possible to change the amount of information in the log files that VIDA produces. Trace is the default selection, which gives the most amount of information, whereas Info gives the least amount of information. Volvo Car Corporation EN05 5

6 1.4 Backup The fourth tab contains a backup function which enables making a backup of all personal information in VIDA All-in-one. Examples of such information are comments in the spare parts catalog, the list with last identified vehicles etc. At a later time you can restore the database with this backup. Fig. 4 VIDA Configuration Backup/Restore tab To perform Backup, proceed as follows: Select Backup. The name of the backup is already given and contains both date and time. Press Start Backup to start the process. Status messages will be shown in the space below the button. To restore a backup, proceed as follows: Select Restore and then select the correct backup file. When the correct backup file is selected, press Start Restore. Status messages will be shown in the space below the button. NOTE After you are finished you must press Save. This will start VIDA again. As an alternative, you can press on the VIDA Monitor icon with the right mouse button. Select Start in the menu that appears. Finish by pressing Close to close VIDA Configuration. Volvo Car Corporation EN05 6

7 1.5 Set prefered installation hour for eupdates The prefered time of day for starting the eupdate can be set in VIDA Configuration. Fig. 5 VIDA Configuration When a new eupdate is scheduled a message containing the eupdate installation start time will appear. Fig. 6 Message containing eupdate installation start time NOTE Keep the computer turned on at the sceduled installation time for making the eupdate possible. 1.6 Configuration advice Intranet connection A proxy should not be stated for this type of connection in the VIDA Configuration VCC Extranet connection A proxy should not be stated for this type of connection in the VIDA Configuration. In Internet Explorer you should state that the proxy is not to be used for local addresses and state *.retailer.volvocars.com as the exception. Volvo Car Corporation EN05 7

8 State that the proxy is not to be used for local addresses in Internet Explorer by choosing Tools à Internet Options... à Connections LAN settings, check "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" at the bottom. The exception is set in Internet Explorer by choosing Tools à Internet Options... à Connections à LAN settings à Advanced..., add *.retailer.volvocars.com in the text box below Exceptions. When a dial-up connection is used, choose Tools à Internet Options... à Connections à Settings... instead Internet connection With this type of connection a proxy is usually stated in VIDA Configuration.
