Section 1-18 Queue/IP Software This section: Describes what the Queue/IP Software does. Describes how to install, configure and run the Queue/IP Software. Describes how to use the Queue/IP Software. Contents What the Queue/IP Software does Sending messages from the central computer Network connections and IP addresses Steps for installing and setting up a system Displaying messages on the Queue/IP Server and finding out which clients are not on line Displaying messages on the Queue/IP Client Which fields in the cardholder records are updated? Cardholders sharing the same card number Which fields in the access point records are updated? Getting a system map Unlocking and locking doors manually from the central computer What the Queue/IP Software does The Queue/IP Software enables a computer which is connected to a wide area network (for example a computer with a broadband connection to the internet) to receive transaction messages from any number of computers running independent Granta access control systems anywhere in the world. This enables the computer receiving the messages (which we shall call the central computer ) to do the following: to display transaction messages and alarm messages received from all the independent access control systems on one transaction monitor in real time. 18-1
Access Control Software to generate reports based on these alarm and transaction messages. to build a cardholders database containing the names and card numbers of the cardholders in all the independent access control systems in real time. This works as follows: a cardholder s name and card number and site code reference number are added to the database whenever that person s card is used in a transaction. In this way, the cardholders database on the central computer is slowly built up as more and more transaction messages arrive and is then maintained in an accurate state. For example, if a new cardholder is added to one of the independent access control systems, or an existing card number is allocated to a new cardholder, this information is included in the cardholders database held on the central computer as soon as the card is used. to build an access points database containing the names and system addresses of the access points in all the independent access control systems in real time. (This is built in the same way as the cardholders database described above.) to build a system map for each of the independent access control systems. as the central computer receives the name and system address of the access point at which each transaction occurs, it maintains an up-to-date record of where each card is in any of the independent systems, so enabling roll call reports to be generated. Sending messages from the central computer The central computer can send door control messages to any of the independent access control systems, for example, to unlock and lock doors manually, and can also send message to request a new system map. All other messages from the central computer are filtered out by the Queue/IP client program which receives them. This means that the independent access control systems can only be configured by their own local host computers - the central computer has no control over cardholder records, access levels, etc and cannot be used to configure the controllers. 18-2
Queue/IP Software The central computer provides a monitoring point to see what is happening at all the independent access control systems in real time, but does not affect the way they operate unless the manual door control feature is used. Network connections and IP addresses Each computer running a Granta access control system must be connected to the wide area network (for example using a broadband connection to the internet), and must have the Queue/IP Client program running on it. The central computer must be connected to the wide area network (for example using a broadband connection to the internet), and must have the Queue/IP Server program running on it. The latest version of Granta software must be installed and must be configured with a network hardware system record for each client access control system, specifying the client computer s IP address. There can be any number of clients - you just create a new network hardware system record for each. Note: the transaction and alarm messages are sent out onto the network using Port Make sure that the firewall on your central computer allows messages through on Port If you want to choose a different Port number, you can set it as a parameter in LaunchPad note that the Queue/IP Server and all the Queue/IP clients must be set to the same Port number. For example, to choose Port number 8005, enter K8005 in the Parameters field as shown below: 18-3
Access Control Software Steps for installing and setting up a system 1. At each independent access control site, connect the host computer to the wide area network and write down its IP address - you will need to enter all these addresses into separate hardware system records on the central computer, see step 11. (You can find out the IP address by looking at the bottom left corner of the Queue/IP Client window when you run it in step 3.) 2. At each independent access control site you need to install the Queue/IP Client program. Put the Granta Software DVD into the DVD-ROM drive on the host computer and start the software installation process. Choose the Custom installation option. When the Select Components screen is displayed, tick the box labelled QUIP Client. Un-tick all the other boxes. Then click on the Next button and complete the installation this will install the Queue/IP Client program file (called QUIPclient.exe) into the c:\sysmgrsql\progs folder (or wherever your Granta software is installed on the host computer s hard drive). 3. Run the QUIPclient.exe program. The status bar at the bottom is red which shows that there is no Queue/IP Server polling this client. The IP address of this client is shown at the bottom left - you will need to enter this address into a network hardware system on the central computer, see step
Queue/IP Software 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all the independent access control systems which you want to send messages to the central computer. 5. At the central computer, install a copy of the latest Granta access control software. Choose the Custom installation option. When the Select Components screen is displayed, tick the box labelled QUIP Server. Then click on the Next button and complete the installation this will install the Granta access control software, including the Queue/IP Server program file (called QUIPsvr.exe) into the c:\sysmgrsql\progs folder. Note: the central computer must have SQL Server installed and running on it. If it does not, you can install the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) from the Granta DVD - for instructions on how to do this and how to set up a Granta database, see the Getting Started Handbook ( _Granta5_Start-GB.pdf on the DVD), then return here. 6. Run LaunchPad and click on the program. button to run the Hardware Systems 7. Click on the button to display the first Hardware System Configuration record. 8. Click on the button. 9. Click on the Uses TCPIP Driver tab. 10. Type the name of the Hardware System into the field below the navigating buttons, for example: QUIP site In the Remote IP Address field, type the IP address of the independent access control system s host computer. 12. Click on the IP Address Enabled check box. 18-5
Access Control Software 13. Click on the Queue IP Server check box. 14. Click on the button to save the new Hardware System configuration record. 15. Repeat steps 8 to 14 for each independent access control system from which you want to receive transaction messages. 16. At the central computer, if System Manager is not already running, you need to run it by clicking on the LaunchPad: button in (When System Manager is running its icon is displayed in the system tray at the bottom right of the Windows screen.) 17. Run the QUIPsvr.exe program. When the Queue/IP Server program is running its icon is displayed in the system tray at the bottom right of the Windows screen. 18-6
Queue/IP Software The background for the clock on LaunchPad will now change from red to green, showing that the Queue/IP hardware system(s) are on line. If you click on the icon to display the Queue/IP Server window, its status bar will also be green. 18. At the central computer, run the Hardware Systems program from LaunchPad and then get a system map from each of the independent access control systems - see Getting a system map for details of how to do this. 19. The Queue/IP system should now be working. 18-7
Access Control Software The status bar at the bottom of all the Queue/IP Client windows will turn green showing that they are communicating with the Queue/IP Server on the central computer. 20. Run the Monitor & Control program from LaunchPad, display the transaction monitor and enable it, then check that messages are being received from the independent access control systems specified by the IP addresses in each of your Queue/IP hardware system records. Remember that messages are sent on Port 8000 so the firewall on your central computer must have Port 8000 open. If you want to choose a different Port number, you can set it as a parameter in LaunchPad note that the Queue/IP Server and all the Queue/IP clients must be set to the same Port number. For example, to choose Port number 8005, enter K8005 in the Parameters field as shown below: 18-8
Queue/IP Software Displaying messages on the Queue/IP Server and finding out which clients are not on line The Queue/IP Server program can be used to display the incoming and outgoing messages. 1. Click on the Queue/IP Server icon in the system tray to display the Queue/IP Server window. The status bar at the bottom should be green - this shows that the server is communicating with all the clients. If the status bar is red, one or more of the clients is off line - check that you have entered the correct IP addresses for the host computers of all the independent access control systems in the hardware system records and that System Manager is running on the central computer. Also check that Port 8000 is open. If a client has been on line and then goes off line, an alarm is generated in the normal way. Look at the alarm list in the Monitor & Control program to see which access control system has gone off line. 2. Click on the Monitor tab. 3. Click on the Enable Display check box. You can now see transaction messages arriving at the central computer, and any messages it sends out. 4. If you want to save all the messages in a log file, click on the Enable Log File check box. The messages will be stored in a file called quipsvrlog.txt in the c:\sysmgrsql\progs folder on the central computer. Displaying messages on the Queue/IP Client Each of the Queue/IP Client programs also has a monitor screen showing messages passing in and out of that particular access control system. 1. Click on the Queue/IP Client icon in the system tray to display the Queue/IP Client window. 18-9
Access Control Software The status bar at the bottom should be green - this shows that the client is communicating with the server. If the status bar is red, the server is off line - check that both System Manager and Queue/IP Server are running on the central computer. 2. Click on the Monitor tab. 3. Click on the Enable Display check box. You can now see transaction messages being sent out from the host computer, and any messages it receives from the central computer. 4. If you want to save all the messages in a log file, click on the Enable Log File check box. The messages will be stored in a file called quipclientlog.txt in the c:\sysmgrsql\progs folder on the host computer. Which fields in the cardholder records are updated? The transaction messages from the independent access control systems update the SQL Server database to which the central computer is currently connected. The following cardholder fields are updated: Cardholder last name Cardholder first name Card number Site Code reference number No other cardholder fields, such as access level, are updated - you can enter a dummy access level for each cardholder on the central computer if you wish. Cardholders sharing the same card number Note that the cardholder data from all the independent access control systems is merged in the single SQL Server database to which the central computer is currently connected. This means that if two people in different sites have the same card number and the same site code reference number, the name which appears next to that card number in the database will be that of the last person who used it
Queue/IP Software If you want to make sure that the card numbers do not conflict, either allocate a different site code reference number to each of the independent access control systems, or use a different card number for everyone on all the independent access control systems. Which fields in the access point records are updated? The transaction messages from the independent access control systems update the SQL Server database to which the central computer is currently connected. The following access point fields are updated: Access point name Access point system address No other access point fields are updated. Getting a system map You can get a system map from one of the independent access control systems in the normal way, as if it was a hardware system controlled by the central computer. 1. Run the Hardware Systems program from LaunchPad. 2. Click on the button to display the System Map. 3. Double-click on the Access Control System. 4. Right-click on the Hardware System whose system map you want to update and choose the Get System List command. 5. Click on the OK button
Access Control Software Unlocking and locking doors manually from the central computer You do this in exactly the same way as if the doors were in a hardware system controlled by the central computer. To be able to unlock or lock a door relay manually using this feature, the Manual Control Enabled check box on the Time Details page of the Access Point record must be selected on the host computer which controls the independent access control system. Only Access Points which have this check box selected can be manually controlled from the central computer. You can now run the Monitor & Control program on the central computer and lock/unlock the access points
