(1) Wide screens are much wider than they are tall the same as highdefinition TV screens. The wide screen format is useful, as you can easily view documents side by side, and it is also nice for watching DVDs. (3) This refers to the resolution of the monitor. OR The resolution refers to the number of pixels (small dots) used to form the screen image.. The resolution is measured horizontally and vertically in pixels. OR A monitor with a resolution of 1920 X 1080 will display 1920 pixels across the screen and 1080 pixels vertically ( down ) the screen. (2) 3

15 This is the time taken in milliseconds to change a pixel. (1) The contrast ratio is the measurement or of the ratio between the darkest black and the brightest white the monitor can produce the larger the ratio, the better. (2) The CPU is the part of the computer that does all the work (Processing) (1) The fan cools down and prevent the CPU from over heat. (1) GHz (1) It is volatile (it loses its contents when it has no power). It is where the CPU keeps all the data / instructions it is working on. Data transfer between RAM and CPU is fast because it is an electronic process. The more RAM you have in your computer, the better it will perform. RAM is supplied in DIMMs (Dual Inline Memory Modules) that fit into DIMM slots on the motherboard. RAM is expensive (it costs more per GB than storage) (3) Hard Disk Drive and DVD Drive (2) It connects different devices to communicate with each other without having to use cables. (1) Data can be easily transferred to his laptop. (1) 3.2. It is a copy of a document that is printed on paper. (1) 3.3. SSD s use a special type of electronic memory than can retain its data when the power is off.(the same that is used fir flash drives). They are slower than RAM, but faster than HDD or DVD s (2) 3.4. They are smaller, lighter, more efficient and cheaper. (3) D scanners Barcode scanners Magnetic stripe readers Biometric scanners (3) 3.6. It allows you to draw or paint precise detail and is far more precise and accurate than using a finger. (1) 3.7. The function is to convert signals from your computer to the type of signals that can be transmitted over a telephone line and vice versa. (2) 4

(1) 4.3. The user does not have to remember or type long instructions. It uses pictures (icons) to represent programs / instructions. It uses a mouse or some other pointing device to allow the user to Interact with anything. It makes using a computer interactive. The user can come to understand it and start to use it very quickly. (3) 4.4. Radio button (1) 4.5. Combo box (1) 4.6. List box (1) 4.7. Anti-virus software Windows Explorer Disk Cleanup Defragmenter Backup (2) 4.8. WinZip (1) 4.9. They allow an operating system to communicate with and control a hardware device. (1) [15] 5

17 QUESTION 5 : INFORMATION MANAGEMENT It is generally not a good idea to change the file extension yourself as Windows may no longer recognise the file type. (1) 5.2. Max 260 characters Filename consists of the filename followed by a period (full stop) and a 3 5 letter file extension. Case sensitive (2) 5.3. Complete the following diagram. (3) Programming language Programming code e Compiler Executable program 5.4. Programs share DLL-files and it can be called by programs that are executed - It is quicker and easier to update a program (1) = 1 x + 0 x + 0 x +1 x + 1 x + 1 x + 1 x + 0 x + 0 x = (1 x 256) + (0 x 128) + (0 x 64) + (1 x 32) + (1 x 16) + (1 x 8) + (1 x 4) + (0 x 2) + (0 x 0) = = 316.
