MindWare Ambulatory Products User Reference Guide (Copyright 2006 MindWare Technologies Ltd.) Thank you for purchasing a MindWare Ambulatory Monitor. This manual covers hardware and software for the following models: MW1000A Impedance Cardiography and GSC Monitor MW3000A Bio-Potential and GSC Monitor MW5000A Bio-Potential Monitor MW7000A Electro-Goniometer and Transducer Monitor These units are all fully self contained ambulatory monitors and are designed to operate on a stand-alone basis with the included PDA. They can stream data via Wi-Fi to a host PC and a wireless router. They all contain built in signal conditioning circuitry, CF Data Acquisition Cards and are powered and controlled by the included PDA. They offer high resolution beat to beat and sampling rates bringing laboratory quality measurements to the ambulatory world. The software used for acquisition is MindWare s PDA acquisition software, PDA ACQ. Data can be acquired in two modes, either stored on the included 512MB SD card or transmitted wirelessly to a host PC running MindWare s Wi-Fi ACQ software program. This data can then be analyzed with MindWare s powerful signal processing suite of applications. 1

Section 2: PDA ACQ Software for Mindware Ambulatory Products Fig 2 PDA ACQ Top Level Screen The MindWare PDA ACQ software is the application software for the complete line of Mindware ambulatory monitors. It is designed to run on a Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA and also requires NI- DAQmxbase 2.1 to be installed from National Instruments as a driver for the CF-6004 data acquisition card. All software is preinstalled and tested on your PDA and included on your CD, these instructions detail how to setup your PDA if all programs are deleted or lost. Mobile 5.0 automatically saves your programs and data when battery power is lost. It is recommended that the PDA be kept on the included charger between uses. 15

Sub-Section A: File Setup 1. Create a folder on your PDA under the My Device/Program Files/Mindware/PDA ACQ. 2. Copy the following files from your MindWare installation CD into the folder created in step 1. These files are used for the configuration and setup options of PDA ACQ 1.0.exe. The files to copy are: a. b. Epochs.txt Lastfilename.txt c. Setup.txt d. Port.txt 3. Copy the file PDA ACQ 1.0.exe to the folder Windows/Start Menu/Programs on your PDA. The icon for the PDA ACQ 1.0.exe application should now be visible under the Start/Programs folder on your PDA. 4. To run the PDA ACQ 1.0.exe applications, select Start/Programs/ PDA ACQ 1.0.exe and follow directions in section 3. * The NI DAQ CF 6004 Data Acquisition Card must also be inserted into the PDA CF slot in order to collect and acquire data from the MW1000A ICG instrument. In addition NI-DAQmxbase 2.1 from National Instruments must be pre-installed on the PDA. 16

Sub-Section B: Acquisition Setup Screen The Acquisition Setup Screen is used to determine the acquisition settings that will be used in the next session of acquiring data. This screen is the first screen that appears upon opening the PDA ACQ 1.0 program. All settings are automatically saved for recall of the next session. They will remain the same unless changed by the user. Model Number: This button selects which ambulatory model is being used with the PDA. Options are MW1000A, MW3000A, MW5000A and MW7000A. Collection Mode: This control is used to set the Collection Mode to either Continuous or Epoch. In Continuous mode, the data is collected in a single stream. In Epoch mode, the data is collected in pre- determined sections defined in the epoch.txt file. Trigger: This control is used to turn triggering on and off. When trigger is selected acquisition can be started with a front panel button press or external V pulse. Sampling Rate: Control the sampling rate per channel. Options are 500 or 1000 samples/sec Target: This control is used to set the location data will be streamed to. The options are PDA and WI-FI Host (Computer.). When WI-FI Host is chosen as the Target, WI-FI ACQ must be installed and running on the destination PC. File Storage Location: This control is used to set the location for saving the data file. The options are SD Card and IPAQ File Storage. 17

Graph History Length/Update Rate: This control is used to set whether 1, 2 or 3 seconds of data will be displayed in the Acquisition Screen graph. Subject Number: This control is used to assign a number to the subject that is being tested and will be used in the epoch mode file naming convention. Exit: This button is used to exit the PDA ACQ 1.0 program. Acquire: This button is used to begin the data acquisition once all settings are complete. Sub-Section C: Channels Setup Screen MW3000A The Channels Setup Screen is used to determine the channel settings that will be use d in the next session of data acquisition. This screen can be accessed through the Acquisition Setup Screen by tapping the Channels tab with the stylus. *This screen will change depending on what model is chosen, e.g. only the MW3000A and MW5000A have programmable gains. Ch # Gain/GSR Gain: These controls are used to determine the amount of gain to be used for each specified channel. 18

Sub-Section D: Filters Setup Screen The Filters Setup Screen is used to determine the filter settings for each individual channel. With this screen filters can be turned on or off and adjusted. This screen can be accessed through the Acquisition Setup Screen by tapping the Filters tab with the stylus. *Note: Filters are an advanced feature and should be selected with care as they can significantly alter the data collected. We offer this capability to give our users flexibility and more control over data collection. In general DC type signals (ie: Z0 and GSR) should only be low pass filtered. Bio-Potentials like ECG or EMG can be band-passed usually in the band of Hz as an approximation. Ch #/GSR: These controls toggle the filter for the specified channel on and off. A check mark indicates that the filter for the corresponding channel is turned on. Ch #/GSR Type: These controls are used to choose which type of filter will be applied to the specified channel. The two options are Low Pass and Band Pass. Ch#/GSR Low Cutoff: These controls are used to set the Low Cutoff filter. This sets the Acquisition software to filter all data on the specified channel below the entered amount (in Hz.) Ch# High Cutoff: These controls are used to set the High Cutoff filters. This sets the Acquisition software to filter all data on the specified channel above the entered amount (in Hz.) 19

Sub-Section E: File Name Input Screen The File Name Input Screen prompts for a file name to save the data from the next acquisition session to. To do this: 1. Tap the File Name field with the stylus to place the cursor there. 2. Tap the keyboard image in the lower right hand corner of the PDA screen. 3. Enter the file name to save the data as. 4. Select the location to save the file to (default is SD Card.) 5. Press OK. File Name: This text field is used to determine the name of the file the data will be saved as. File Storage Location: This control determines the location to save the file to. The options are IPAQ File Storage (Internal memory of the PDA) and SD Card. 20
