IBM Developer for z Systems is an Eclipse-based IDE that offers the capabilities necessary for z/os application developers to optimize z/ OS application design, creation, initial quality assurance, and maintenance in the context of a DevOps toolchain. 2 CICS, IMS, DB2, batch, and z/os UNIX TM, Developer for z Systems helps you realize your DevOps objectives for applications that include z/os components. Deliver more, faster, with application comprehension and impact analysis tools that shorten learning curves and help you make decisions more quickly and confidently. And then, take advantage of intelligent editors, outline views, content assist, auto-completion, instantaneous syntax validation, context help, and other capabilities that help you implement your decisions faster. Increase business agility, with an industry-standard Eclipse base that provides a common developer user experience across a breadth of languages, programming models, and platforms. This improves skills portability so that the business can pivot more quickly as business conditions and requirements change. And building upon the Eclipse foundation, Developer for z Systems is part of z/os Explorer Aqua V3.1 for Neon, an Eclipse-based integration platform for z/os users. Built using a continuous integration and delivery pipeline, z/os Explorer offers an extensible and compatible suite of tools and capabilities to streamline your z/os DevOps pipeline. Build in quality, by eliminating the waste introduced by software defects and inefficient collaboration. Developer for z Systems includes code-generating wizards, static code analysis, code coverage analysis, profiling, and unit test automation to produce clean code, plus rapid defect removal, with visual debugging. Developer for z Systems is integrated with the broader IBM DevOps for Enterprise portfolio to provide developers in-context access to capabilities such as application analysis, file management, and problem determination. And integration with application lifecycle management tools gives visibility to activities and status across the lifecycle from planning and requirements through change and configuration management, downstream testing, and deployment. Planned availability date September 8, 2017 Description IBM Developer for z Systems provides essential, developer-focused capabilities using industry standards to help simplify the development of traditional terminal interfaces and back ends, written in COBOL, PL/I, High Level Assembler, C/C+ +, JCL, REXX, and Java, deployable to CICS, IMS, DB2, batch, and z/os UNIX. Developer for z Systems integrates with existing IBM Z development processes, including problem determination, project management, testing solutions, and IBM Z source management systems. It offers a wide set of capabilities for the developer. Application structural and quality analysis tools: Developer for z Systems helps developers deliver high-quality COBOL and PL/I applications in a timely fashion that conform to in-house programming guidelines. Features include control flow diagrams for COBOL and PL/I programs, identification and highlighting of potential unreachable code, data element tables showing all data elements for a given COBOL or PL/I program, a call hierarchy for showing caller and callee relationships, the ability to open called programs from COBOL and PL/I source, and a code review feature allowing you to inspect your code for compliance with IBM Asia Pacific Software Announcement AP IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2

Using the predefined COBOL and PL/I rules and templates, or your own custom written COBOL and PL/I rules, you can run code reviews and view results interactively in the IBM Developer for z Systems workbench or in batch mode on Windows, Linux, or z/os. Running code reviews in conjunction with your source control management system or other development processes provides code governance capabilities, as well as the opportunity to improve quality early in your development cycle. Editor capabilities: COBOL, PL/I, and JCL editor support includes improved navigation, content assistance and real-time syntax checking, syntax highlighting, hyperlinks for copybooks and include files, sequence numbers support, hover information for COPY and INCLUDE statements, refresh of copybooks and includes when working with remote files, search for occurrences of a given variable, refactoring capabilities, enhanced outline view, JCL template, and open JCL Proc support. IBM z/os Debugger: A powerful, modern, GUI-based, multiplatform, multilanguage, source-level debugger enables the user to step through the program being debugged, monitor and modify variables, set breakpoints during or prior to a debug session, and inspect program memory. This includes display and annotation of program execution flow. Team collaboration and repository support: Developer for z Systems provides tools for accessing and interacting with a number of the industry's source code management offerings, as well as application lifecycle management tools. Rational Team Concert TM : Enhances the entry point to the Rational (R) application lifecycle management solution, including close SCM integration. CA Endevor Software Change Manager: Provides tools to access and work with CA Endevor Software Change Manager managed source code, including an Endevor Element Search action, delivering the ability to edit files directly from the repository. CICS and IMS tools: Developer for z Systems offers tools specifically for developers working with IBM CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS), CICS Explorer, and IMS Transaction Manager and Database Manager. Enterprise Service Tools for CICS and IMS: Provides an integrated set of tools that support modern application architectures and the transformation and reuse of existing CICS and IMS application processes. The tools support generation of web service descriptions and CICS service flow processing artifacts directly to a z/os system. Basic Mapping Support and Message Format Service Screen Designers: Enables you to visually create and modify Basic Mapping Support map sets and Message Format Service message and format files. CICS and IMS Code Generators: Provides design tools and wizards that allow you to rapidly create CICS Transaction Server application code skeleton and logic from user-provided input. Provides code snippets that allow you to rapidly add common programming objects to IMS application code and IMS Transaction Isolation facility for debug. DB2 tools: Developer for z Systems provides tools specifically for developers working with DB2 databases, stored procedures, and applications. Data tools: Provides relational database tools to work with tables, table views, and filters. With these tools, you can create physical database models by means of reverse engineering database tables or using DDL scripts. You can also use the tools to create SQL statements, DB2 routines (such as stored procedures and user-defined functions), and several types of files, including SQLJ, SQL DDL, and XML files. z Systems stored procedures: Enables you to create, test, and deploy DB2 stored procedures written in COBOL, PL/I, Java, or SQL directly to a z/os system. 4 architectures, standards, and practices. These custom assets can enhance consistency and quality while reducing manual tasks. Common Access Repository Manager (CARMA): Provides a unified interface and set of services for accessing z Systems-based source control management tools. CARMA also provides a generic GUI client that can be used as a framework for accessing and interfacing with custom source control management systems. Remote Resource Access API: Enables customers and third-party vendors to extend the function of IBM Developer for z Systems by programmatically accessing and manipulating remote resources. COBOL Application Model API: When writing custom COBOL rules, you can access the COBOL language elements within your COBOL source code. PL/I Application Model API: When writing custom PL/I rules, you can access the PL/I language elements within your PL/I source code. Other Developer for IBM Z capabilities: Enhanced IBM Z data editor for QSAM files: This editor includes a column ruler and Find and Replace capabilities. Line level code coverage: Tools can measure and report on test coverage of an application, indicating what source code lines were tested and which lines remain to be tested. z/os Automated Unit Testing Framework (zunit): Similar to the junit techniques available to Java programmers, IBM Developer for z Systems provides a codedriven, unit testing framework for Enterprise COBOL and Enterprise PL/I applications. zunit provides an automated solution for executing and verifying Enterprise COBOL and Enterprise PL/I unit test cases that are written using the zunit framework. New in IBM Developer for z Systems V14.1 Engage in the API economy Refactoring large monolithic source code into smaller reusable components can now be completed rapidly using new advanced refactoring tools for COBOL. Whether the goal is to improve maintainability, achieve modularity, or reuse business logic for new APIs and services, these new refactoring tools accelerate the time to value while also reducing the risk of potential manual errors. So that developers can more quickly make changes (refactoring or otherwise) with less risk, Developer for z Systems can be integrated with IBM Application Discovery to enable in-context analysis from Remote Systems Explorer, CICS Explorer, and Data Source Explorer. Build in quality through DevOps toolchain integration When developers unexpectedly inject new bugs and quality issues into their code, they can now receive on-the-fly feedback through integration with the SonarLint for Eclipse plug-in. This continuous feedback can prevent these issues from becoming problems before application code is delivered. This is in addition to the existing Software Analyzer feature of Developer for z Systems, which enables code review against a defined set of rules to prevent coding errors and violation of organization standards. The PDF and HTML reports provided by the code review feature have been enhanced to include a new header and summary section, to show violations by both file and by rule, and to list all the rules and files used during a review session. The Test Entry Data Editor for the z/os Automated Unit Testing Framework (zunit) feature has been enhanced to support the choice of structures to use when a REDEFINES clause is used in COBOL source. The editor now also supports using variable length sequential data sets which contain data to be used as part of a test case. 5 case entries, as well as the ability to skip test case entries while debugging in order to quickly isolate the program to be debugged. IBM z/os Debugger has been enhanced to streamline operation, deliver high-priority client requirements, and reduce configuration and repetitive tasks to get to your debug point of interest: Debug configuration launches have been simplified, with CICS debug configuration enhancements plus migration wizards for the DTSP, DTCN, and JCL instrumentation views. Visual debug has been enhanced to show the current execution path. This displays all nodes that can call the current stack frame node directly or indirectly and all direct children of the current stack frame node. Ability to deliver more quickly Developer for z Systems includes several editor enhancements that improve usability and can increase the productivity of developers. These enhancements include: Column restricted search within the open editor A vertical line indicating the cursor position Validation that COBOL user-defined words do not exceed 30 bytes A truncation warning for lines that exceed the maximum line length The ability to refresh all dependencies for the source in the editor with a single action Support for debugging lines when the WITH DEBUGGING MODE clause is used Support for EXEC SQL INCLUDE when used with the Show Expanded Source feature Simplified rectangular block copy-paste An API to add a quickfix to the COBOL editor Several Requests For Enhancements (RFEs) have been included in V14.1, including: Property Group management improvements The ability to export the Data Elements table information to a.csv file A new option when viewing the Program Control Flow diagram Support for EXEC SQL and EXEC CICS in the Data Flow diagram Improvements for integration with software configuration management offerings such as Rational Team Concert and CA Endevor Ability to simplify Development team leads can now use capability-based checklists coupled with a new Host Configuration Assistant to simplify planning and configuration of Developer for z Systems V14.1 z/os components (including z/os Debugger). This will reduce the burden on systems programmers and the time to an operational environment for development. Currency with z14 and z/os Explorer Aqua Developer for z Systems offers support for the latest z14 software, including z/os V2.3, z/os V2.3 XL C/C++, CICS TS for z/os V5.4, DB2 for z/os V12.1, Enterprise COBOL for z/os V6.2, IMS for z/os V14.1, and Enterprise PL/I for z/os V5.2. 6 Developer for z Systems supports Eclipse (Neon) as part of the z/os Explorer Aqua release train, in step with other z/os Explorer-based tools that are part of IBM Application Delivery Foundation for z Systems. Capability deprecations and removals SCLM Developer Toolkit is deprecated in Developer for z Systems V14.1. IBM does not intend to enhance SCLM Developer Toolkit, and recommends that SCLM activities be achieved by Menu Manager integration. Service Component Architecture (SCA) development tools, which were deprecated in Developer for z Systems V14, are removed in Developer for z Systems V14.1. IBM recommends that service oriented application components be used for web services tooling for SOAP and JSON. Technical information Specified operating environment Hardware requirements Desktop requirements Disk space: 2 GB of disk space is required to install the IBM Developer for z Systems minimum set of features. 3.3 GB of disk space, plus 210 MB of temporary space, is required for a full installation of IBM Developer for z Systems. This includes Installation Manager, IBM Developer for z Systems, Rational Team Concert, and IBM Developer for z Systems- Rational Team Concert Integration. 6 GB of disk space is recommended when installing other bundled software. 7 Disk space requirements can be reduced depending on the features that you install. Additional disk space is required for the resources that you develop. Additional disk space is required if you download the electronic image to install the product. Additional disk space is required if you use FAT32 instead of NTFS. Display: 1024 x 768 resolution using 256 colors. A higher resolution and color palette is recommended, such as 1280 x Memory: 3 GB RAM minimum; 4 GB RAM or more recommended. If you plan to install additional software onto the same Software Delivery Platform as IBM Developer for z Systems, such as the addition of Rational Team Concert, Rational Application Developer, Rational Software Architect, Rational Business Developer, or similar products, you should use the recommended memory requirement instead of the minimum memory requirement. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect. Limited warranty applies Limited warranty IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program. IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. Program technical support Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of two years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (by telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to versions, releases, and updates (CD releases, long term support releases, or fixes) of the program. You will be notified, through an announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with six months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired.
