1 Release Notes for Perinorm Online November 2016 In November 2016, the software for Perinorm online will be updated. Some enhancements that will be implemented with the new software are described below: 1. CE conformity and EU directives: new search functions and compliance infos in Perinorm 1.1 Searching for EU Regulations and harmonized standards 1.2 Identifying CE-relevant documents in the search results 1.3 Looking up CE-relevant information in pop-up windows 1.4 Following up on validity and harmonization periods in a timeline 2. Editing names of links to full texts of standards 3. Links to digital attachments of standards added 1. CE conformity and EU directives: new search functions and compliance infos in Perinorm Information on the current status of EU regulations and the corresponding harmonized standards can be of vital importance for any business company that exports products to EU countries. The standards management tool Perinorm has been offering that kind of information for years. To find it, however, you had to be rather familiar with both, the links between standards and directives, and the data fields in which the information is presented in the application. With a new software release, to be issued in autumn 2016, product compliance information in Perinorm will be much easier to trace. Improvements concern four areas which will be explained below: 1. Searching for EU Directives and harmonized standards 2. Identifying CE-relevant documents in the search results 3. Looking up CE-relevant information in pop-up windows 4. Following up on validity and harmonization periods in a timeline 1.1 Searching for EU Regulations and harmonized standards A new menu Search for CE-relevant documents, with three search filters is displayed below the search mask: When checking the first Filter Search for CE-relevant EU regulations, a drop-down list of the most important regulations will show:

2 When you select any of the regulations or all and click the search button, the corresponding results will appear. If you are looking for harmonized standards that correspond to a specific regulation, select the regulation in the drop-down list and check the second filter Search for harmonized standards. The search below, for example, will result in all harmonized standards for the ATEX directive: When selecting the machinery directive, you can additionally restrict the search to Type A, B or C standards. A-type standards specify basic concepts, terminology and design principles applicable to all categories of machinery. B-type standards deal with specific aspects of machinery safety or specific types of safeguard that can be used across a wide range of categories of machinery. C-type standards, finally, specify safety requirements for specific products. All CE-search filters can be combined with entries in Perinorm search fields, e.g. if you select an ICS classification from the index of the classification field, e.g. 13 * (for environment and health protection and safety, enter ix (for international and European documents) in the origin code field and check the filter search for CE-relevant EU regulations, you will find any EU regulation requiring CE-marking that exists in that specific field. A hint regarding the search mask: If the CE search is used frequently, then it is advisable to create a special search mask layout for this purpose via the Settings tab. There you can restrict the number of search fields that will appear above the CE search filters and choose the most important fields in that context. A CE search mask might look like this:

3 1.2 Identifying CE-relevant documents in the search results In the result list and full display, CE-relevant records will be marked with a CE symbol next to the document identifier: Thus, users will be reminded of the special roles of these documents. The CE symbol also serves for another purpose which will be explained in paragraph 3. Please not that at the time being, only European and German standards are marked with CE symbols, as for other collections, the corresponding information is not available yet. However, it is easy to identify national equivalents of European harmonized standards by following the links to these standards in the international relationship field of the European documents; e.g. for EN ISO 12100:

4 1.3 Looking up CE-relevant information in pop-up windows When clicking on the CE symbol next to any document identifier in the display, a pop-up window will open which displays the most important info regarding CE conformity for these documents. The information is different for CE regulations and harmonized standards. For a CE regulation, e.g. the Machinery directive, the following information will be displayed: A hyperlink Harmonized standards will lead to all European and German standards that are harmonized with that directive. To restrict that list to European standards only, you can use the Origin code filter beside the result list: For harmonized standards, the CE- relevant info in the pop-up window which opens when clicking the CE symbol includes the following:

5 A hyperlink leads to the corresponding regulation. The beginning and end of the harmonization period for that standard (as announced in the Official Journal of the European Union) is also displayed. Please note that the harmonization period is only indicated in the European version of a harmonized standard. This is because the entry in the Official Journal only refers to these versions. However, as shown in the example in paragraph 2 above, it is very easy to find the corresponding national versions via the hyperlinks in the International relationship field of the European standard Following up on validity and harmonization periods in a timeline In the full display, for each CE-relevant record, you will find a link Show CE Timeline. Clicking on this will show a timeline representing the validity periods for these documents. For a CE regulation the timeline can look like this: The regulation itself is displayed as a blue bar. The validity period is represented on the time axis, i.e. for valid document the bar reaches from the publication date to the present time. For withdrawn documents, it ends at the withdrawal date. Below the original regulation modifying documents are shown, which have to be considered together with the regulation. For harmonized standards, a timeline like the following one will be displayed:

6 Again, the document to which the timeline refers, i.e. the harmonized standard EN ISO 12100, is represented in a blue bar, which begins at the publication date and reaches to the present time, as the standard is still valid. Besides the harmonized standard, the regulation is displayed in a pink bar. When moving the mouse over the regulation bar, an info will appear, showing the beginning and end of harmonization for the standard: Please note that a standard can be harmonized for several regulations. In that case all regulations and their harmonization periods will be displayed in the timeline. 2. Editing names of links to full texts of standards In the Full display tab links to full texts can now be edited. For example the language version of a standard could be mentioned in the name of the link. To edit the name of a link please click on the pencil icon. A dialogue window will open, where you can enter a name for the link. If needed, you can also enter different names for the Perinorm user interface languages (English, German, French).

7 These names will immediately be displayed in the Full display. In the Result list the names will be visible, if several full texts are attached to one record so that the user can choose between these versions. 3. Links to digital attachments of standards added Customers who subscribe to the Beuth standards collection BEST Collection in combination with Perinorm can now access digital attachments to standards from Perinorm. In cases where digital attachments exist, links to these documents will be displayed in the full display.
